Eww no. My dog has his bed, a basket downstairs. He occasionally is allowed on the sofa but lies on a padded blanket. He's a sausage dog so isn't allowed to jump in and off sofas and isn't allowed upstairs. I couldn't deal with dog hairs or dirt in our bed. My dog is very much part of our family and we adore him and he's never without cuddles.

I can't even begin with letting dogs lick faces and plates

Our dog is part of our family so yes he is allowed on the sofa. I dont mind him sleeping on the bed but my OH doesn’t like it. I tend to go upstairs first, so he will snuggle in with me, until my OH comes to bed. He sleeps next to my side of the bed on the floor, he has a bed downstairs and also a crate upstairs with a bed inside.

Hes a small to medium dog, doesn’t shed hair. I don’t have an issue. Compared to ours his life will be short and I do everything I can to make him happy and comfortable. I call him my youngest baby because both my kids are older than him.

My sofa is my dogs bed. Even though we bought him a very expensive actual dog bed. He is allowed on the hooman beds but he rarely sleeps with us.

I have a German shepherd and a pug, they sleep in an open crate but come in to our room every morning, if we want a lie in I feed them their breakfast and let them out for 5 mins then its back to our bed for another little sleep. I wouldn’t have it any other way

I know alot of folks don't like using crates, but before I had a utility room I used them ,then took the door off and they'd still use them. You have a youngster, they should get on well, you'll probably not have a chance of a look in with pup!!!

I have to ask @101d, what puppy are you getting?

It's such a hard situation and a don't think people who's beloved family female pets get knocked up should be vilified in the way of backyard breeders who don't care for their dogs and just want profit.
When we bought our puppy , their parents owner had spent a lot on equipment and food for them.

I also don't completely agree with adopt don't shop . I'm sure the next generation of dogs still needs to be born .

Who said people should be vilified? I’m not being rude but I think you perhaps need to do some some research. Dog breeding is probably the biggest mess it has ever been right now.
I’ve bought pets and I’ve also adopted. Yes dog breeds would die out if we didn’t breed I’m not anti breeding. I’m anti any idiot buying a dog and breeding the hell out of it which zero knowledge.

No word of a lie I had a bad accident a few yrs back and got an infection in my foot only a small one, so our g.p came to the house to have a look he spotted the dog and said get the dog to lick it!! We did and it cleared up in a few days. This was in a rural area more than 20yrs ago

Due to the constant saliva produced a dogs tongue is actually pretty sterile

Just been snuggling with my jr, he'll be 12 next year, has been suffering with ill health most of his life, been looking at his face, his eyes are starting to bulge and are cloudy,so it reminds me they aren't here for very long, ive always had dogs, but the heartbreak of losing them has been the worst pain I've ever known ( yep have lost friends n family) I keep saying no more dogs, but I can't imagine my life without them.

We have a 4 month old lab. Growing up both our parents never let our family dogs upstairs / on the sofa so we said we’d do the same, but the day we bought that 8 week old puppy home... I couldn’t sit on the sofa and watch tv without a cuddle!? So now he helps himself to the sofa whether we are on it or not, but I always ensure there is a blanket on there as although I love him I am a bit too in love with my expensive sofa to let it get hairy etc. (Even before the dog I hoovered it weekly). He’s now started climbing the stairs and does enjoy a mooch about but I don’t think I’d like him sleeping upstairs with me. I tried it once last week when I was alone but he cried and ran back to his crate, he feels cosy and safe there I think so we will continue to crate him at night. (Don’t crate hate me). When he’s done with the crate eventually he’ll have free roam of downstairs, currently has beds in the kitchen and living room so imagine they’ll both stay.

I was very skeptical about using a crate, but when my dogs were pups, it worked good, I never shut them in, put a blanket over the top so it was more like a den for them, now they sleep wherever they want!!!

I have a bichon cross and she sleeps between me and my husband on top of the covers!! She does have a dog bed which is next to my side of the bed that she settles down in, but inevitably every morning I wake up and shes laying next to me completely deep asleep

GSD owner so it’s not that she’s not allowed upstairs as such but we just try and not encourage it due to spreading the fur! Same with the couch. She sits on my husbands knee occasionally, all 37kgs of her but she doesn’t get up on the sofa.

My dog is not allowed on the couch, so she just chills and even tries to sleep on it, with just half of the body and two legs on, as she sneakily claims that is technically not on the couch...

He does also have a little bedroom under the stairs where his proper bed and toys are so he will go between there and the sofa

We're in the process of buying a house from a couple with a lab and they've also created a bedroom for him under the stairs! Trying to convince my husband to keep it as a room for our dog instead of using it for storage.

One dog right now is sleeping on the pillows behind my head the other two are on the floor one at the side of the bed the other at the bottom. They are allowed anywhere they want, sleep wherever they want. The two on the floor don't bother going on the bed but do go on the sofa from time to time when I'm not home. Two of the dogs are rescue dogs so they can do whatever they want to do for comfort. All you need is a damn good Hoover because all three shed like crazy!!

I’m so glad my dog doesn’t shed...I mean his fur is an absolute pain to brush and clip but not shedding makes up for it x

I've a Japanese Spitz two layers of hair!! Jesus when she sheds!! I've a little trick I open the front and back doors and let the wind do most of the work then I Hoover
