When you walk her and she goes is she always on a lead? If she is maybe put her on a lead when she goes out in the garden to see if she’ll go then? My grandparents dog won’t go to the toilet in their garden. He only even goes when on walks but will also for example go in our garden.

Yeah she’s on lead when she goes when we are on a walk, I tried her with lead on in the garden but it didn’t work she’s very stubborn!!

My 7 month old will catch a snooze on the sofa while we’re there but she sleeps in her crate at night. She’s not allowed on the beds at all. She does jump up but is immediately told to get down.

I’m quoting myself here but my dog is nearly 2 now and still sleeps in her crate at night. The door is left open these days and she’ll sometimes move over to the kitchen sofa.

During the day she’ll lie on our bed or the front room sofas. We stopped telling her to get off ages ago

I have a little cocker spaniel, when we first got him he hated being separated from us at night so we put his bed in our room for a while, but once he had grown a bit he started managing to jump on our bed in the middle of the night I preferred him being in his own bed so after much perseverance he's now sleeping downstairs in his own bed With regard to the sofa though I let him on it all the time. I just put throws over the sofa which I was regularly to stop pawprints getting on the actual sofa. If you try and move him off the sofa when he's all comfy he'll make a groaning sound at you as if to say "piss off will ya, I'm comfy!"

We had an ex-racing greyhound who'd run almost everywhere and nearly slipped a few times on our laminate flooring.

Barking Heads! Brilliant quality food for the cost. Can be bought most places, would say direct or amazon are cheapest.

Both my dogs are on it and thriving. Lovely coats, solid stools that are easy to pick up (sorry probably not TMI for dog owners) I use the Lamb one. Loads of dogs are allergic to chicken.

Another food I love is Guru. Its cold pressed so the closest to raw you can get, Surf & Turf is probably the gentlest on the tummy.

P.s both my dogs are a breed with ear issues and theyre both ok with Barking Heads.

I hope somebody can give me some advice.
Getting a house built and we can’t wait to be homeowners and be able to have a dog. We’ve had cats before (I love both cats and dogs don’t come for me), but since they passed we weren’t allowed other pets while renting.
My question is about flooring options that work best with dogs. We were thinking of laminate but were told to steer clear in case puppy has an accident. Any advice?

I would say laminate is a good option for puppy accidents? Although our house had nice laminate down already so didn't have to pay (extra) for it!!

My old lady who we lost a couple of years ago to a brain tumour was attacked twice. Once by a staffy owned by a drug addict, we were both terrified and I was frozen to the spot with fear. Someone had to beep their car horn to get the owners attention and she came and punched the dog off mine. I was so sad after because I physically couldn’t move and stood screaming for help, I should have fought the dog off myself. I’ve never met a nasty staffy before or since!
I called the police because I was concerned for other dogs and children. They said there was nothing they could do for dog on dog attacks

I didn’t bother reporting the attack by my mums neighbours German shepherd but I did tell her to put a fucking muzzle on her dog as it was known to be vicious.

Yes he loves other dogs! He’s 1 and a half so still young himself. We’ve got a crate for new pup but don’t really have another room he can sleep in on his own

I know alot of folks don't like using crates, but before I had a utility room I used them ,then took the door off and they'd still use them. You have a youngster, they should get on well, you'll probably not have a chance of a look in with pup!!!

I have to ask @101d, what puppy are you getting?

My mum has a cockapoo, shes 7 now and is deffo treated like one of the family! She used to sleep in her crate but wouldnt settle during a phantom pregnancy so mum let her upstairs on the bed... that was probably 3 years ago now I couldnt sleep with her on the bed shes a right pain sleeping on your legs giving you a dead leg (ive looked after her a few times n had her on the bed with me as thats the only way she would settle)
Shes a gorgeous dog though, love her to bits. Cockapoos are such characters! Not sure id be paying the prices theyre asking for these days tho

So sorry. We’ve had problems with a pack of schnauzers (3) and a pack of border collies, also 3. Also another two labs including one large puppy whose owner thought my dog was being aggressive for telling his dog off after harassing my dog after running away from his owner. Also One large Rottweiler owned by a moron. The dog was out of control and went after smaller dogs to bite and knocked me over. The police were informed and they visited the owner and we never saw the dog again. It’s not true that they can’t do something.

Oh absolutely not! My dachshund was attacked when he was just a puppy and on a lead. Fortunately he wasn’t seriously hurt but he ended up on his back which as every dachshund owner will tell you, is a heart stopping moment. The sound of him screaming is still etched on my memory and it took a long time for me to feel confident again. He doesn’t go far now and is very cautious when approaching other dogs. I’m sorry that your dog has been attacked and I hope that you’re both ok.

I'm sorry for presuming, oh and bless your doggie, yes I get the screaming and the hurt coming out of them,it cuts me to the core, I know have to get my confidence back, but am still quite shaken by it all, didn't think it would happen again, he's ok, my oh took them in a local farmers field ( fenced off ) for a play with a ball.

I have a mini Dachshund and she sleeps in a crate at the end of our bed, its got lovely fluffy blankets and bed inside and got a blanket covering the roof and sides so she just loves to burrow into it at night with a couple of treats. I dont ever close her into it either she goes in at her own choice and can come out when she wants. When we initially had her she slept in our kitchen but she hates her own company and used to howl every night so she is loving life being able to be in our bedroom but have her own space too. I would be too afraid of her with us during the night as if we rolled on her she would suffocate. But during the day she takes herself upstairs and will either go into her crate or lie at the bottom of our bed and stare out the window. In the evenings she sits on top of me on the sofa, being beside me isnt enough
She doesnt moult but even if she did I wouldn't care - I was raised with long hair German Sherpherds and they moulted a lot so I am well used to that situation.
My dog is my baby though, I absolutely adore her, potientially more than my partner at times!

Why do you let a mini dachshund (or any dachshund or any long backed short legged dog) go up your stairs?

I have a toy poodle. She dozes wherever she wants in the day but at bedtime goes to her crate. She sometimes leaks wee, and if it is on our bed it is so much epic laundry as opposed to one throw blanket or cushion if she leaks during a snooze during the day on the sofa.

Anyone here got any advice for potty training?? I got a French Bulldog a month ago… she’s one year old and was living with other dogs until she had her first season and the other female dog kept attacking her, so we have taken her in. She was trained but I think she really just copied the other dogs and peed and pooped when they did. So she hasn’t learnt to let us know when she needs to go so she has pooped in the house a few times. We got her a crate to sleep in and she’s now started waking us up in the middle of the night, anywhere between 3am and 5am howling coz she needs to go.
She very rarely does the toilet on a walk and she won’t go before bed. For instance, I’ve been taking her out to the garden every 20 minutes for the past few hours and she just won’t go even though I know she hasn’t been for hours. And I know for a fact I will put her to bed and she will wake me up in an hour or so and will need to go then.
I’ve googled, I’ve watched tiktoks but nothing seems to be working. Any advice?
