I think that due to social distancing rules that having dogs off the lead is definitely not on. Our local council has signs up in previously allowed off lead areas saying dogs must be on leads.

I respectfully disagree that dogs should be kept on a lead, mine lives for ball chasing and I don’t see why he should be punished because of the few naughty dogs. I’d happily muzzle him if required but he needs a good run off lead or he’d never tire!
I’m specifically referring to social distancing rules now, not generally.

Mine love balls chasing too, but because of attacks, if I see other dogs, I put mine on leads, naughty dogs, no sorry, really aggressive dogs, just wish some dog owners would be aware and have good recall,

My dachshund loves to be off the lead, sniffing and chasing his ball. Fortunately I live in an area of dog lovers and nobody wants to have to keep their dog on the lead especially in fields or open spaces. He’s allowed on the sofa but not on the bed. Although he gets on the bed when I’m asleep so I often don’t realise he’s there till morning!

I live in an area of dog lovers, but all it takes is for someone to turn up, thinking their dog is ok, and letting it off the lead and attack, you've been lucky, I wouldn't wish what I've had to go through today on any caring dog owner.

Oh absolutely not! My dachshund was attacked when he was just a puppy and on a lead. Fortunately he wasn’t seriously hurt but he ended up on his back which as every dachshund owner will tell you, is a heart stopping moment. The sound of him screaming is still etched on my memory and it took a long time for me to feel confident again. He doesn’t go far now and is very cautious when approaching other dogs. I’m sorry that your dog has been attacked and I hope that you’re both ok.

I'm sorry for presuming, oh and bless your doggie, yes I get the screaming and the hurt coming out of them,it cuts me to the core, I know have to get my confidence back, but am still quite shaken by it all, didn't think it would happen again, he's ok, my oh took them in a local farmers field ( fenced off ) for a play with a ball.

That’s ok 😊 You will get it back, it just takes time and for me it was baby steps eg going to a small enclosed field near the house, off the lead with me and my partner there etc. Sadly some people don’t properly train their dogs and some of us bear the brunt of that. I always make sure I’m next to my dachshund when another dog has come over incase they lash out because then I can either pick him up or try to fight the other dog off. I guess I’m just very vigilant because he’s been attacked and because of the general rise in dog theft in this country. I hope your dog is back to their usual self again soon!

Am so annoyed, my dog has been attacked earlier, he was first attacked 18 months ago, and it's taken alot of hard work for him to trust other dogs, but today was awful, both mine on leads, a dog off the lead went for them, I managed to pick my oldie up, and was trying to get this dog off mine, who had obviously had enough and was having ago back, it was horrendous, I was livid with the other dog owners, now I'm shaken and soo upset.
I’m really sorry to hear this 😥 the amount of dogs that come bounding up to mine when on the lead and it’s obvious I’m trying to keep a distance from other dogs it is infuriating. The owner always looks puzzled when my dog starts growling. I’ve started getting really arsey and saying shes on the lead for a reason. A lot of dog owners are completely thick. I really hope your doggy is doing ok!

That's what does my head in, my dogs are on a lead for a reason, I tried to shout at the other dog owners to call it back, I was literally in a bush, but they didn't give a rit, don't blame you for getting arsey, you're just looking after your dog xx

No I didn't, they just put their dog on the lead, said he's never done that before , sorry and buggered off!!! I've never seen them before, it's a local walk to me, unfortunately I was on my own, and had my oldie in my arms whilst trying to see if my other dog was ok.
They ALWAYS say its never happened before. I walk around the park for exercise and on three ocassions I've heard a regular dog walker say 'he's never done that before' when he's gone for other dogs.

That's always the first thing I've heard, he's never done that before, my oldie got attacked years ago, then we had an electrion over who had a young dog in his van, I said bring him in, he said he was attacked a week earlier, ended up the vets, time we chatted, it was the same dog who had attacked my oldie.

I know, and it's not down to what people think are the aggressive breeds, my boys have met all sorts, but labradors and boxers have been the worst. No thank god, I've had a good check over of him, but it's the mental side I now have to deal with, again, plus me taking them out and not showing anxiety, just soo annoyed .
Wow, so surprised by all of the lab stories! Always thought they were so docile. My little Boston terrier was having a good run around with a lab, taking turns chasing each other, until the lab's owner threw a ball and my dog caught it. It was traumatising having to pull them apart - the lab's owner was distraught and burst into tears. I was so scared because my dog is so much smaller, but he got away with a few superficial wounds.

It's made me so frightened of bigger dogs and how playing nicely together can escalate into an attack in a split second. I don't allow my dog to engage with any large dogs now, it's just left meals so paranoid!

My 7 month old will catch a snooze on the sofa while we’re there but she sleeps in her crate at night. She’s not allowed on the beds at all. She does jump up but is immediately told to get down.

I’d like to add that before we got her I read a puppy book that said have them in your room in the crate to begin with then gradually move them to where you want them.

We tried that but she cried and would only settle in the kitchen. She’ll lie in her bed in the livingroom in the evening but when we start getting ready for bed she takes herself off to her crate. The crate is cosy and has a blanket over it. She moves any toys/chews out of her crate herself.

She has her daytime sleeps in her crate too. I don’t think she has any desire to sleep in our beds/bedrooms with us. She’s huge so probably just as well.

One of our dogs was attacked by an off lead German shepherd who had apparently "never done that before". We always keep our dogs on leads as they choose to go deaf on occasion, even though they would love to be running around freely and chasing balls etc.

When dogs are out for walks, they tread in dog tit and all kinds of things. They also stink to high heaven, pant and slobber. I don't know anyone can bear to have them on their beds. They are sweet but they're just so unhygienic.

Hey! First time poster to this thread... but would love to start something on tattle, where people can post pictures of their walks with their dogs. Obviously it shouldn't be in any way revealing, just like a landscape picture or something funny that the dog does. Is that something that other people may be interested in?

Can I resurrect an old thread?

Dog owners... what food do you feed your dogs? My boy is getting recurrent ear infections that I think is down to a food allergy. He's on Wainwrights at the mo. Been looking into Raw but it's too expensive (I have two dogs). Going to do a trial of Tails.com and looking at Arden Grange sensitive!

Barking Heads! Brilliant quality food for the cost. Can be bought most places, would say direct or amazon are cheapest.

Both my dogs are on it and thriving. Lovely coats, solid stools that are easy to pick up (sorry probably not TMI for dog owners) I use the Lamb one. Loads of dogs are allergic to chicken.

Another food I love is Guru. Its cold pressed so the closest to raw you can get, Surf & Turf is probably the gentlest on the tummy.

P.s both my dogs are a breed with ear issues and theyre both ok with Barking Heads.
