I concur I left teaching as it was making me so stressed and ill. I loved the job just not all the bureaucracy that went with it. It got so bad I used to drive to work hoping I’d get into an accident so I didn’t have to go in again.
The one thing I now realise years later is that I should have walked away, and granted I was unemployed for 6 months after and really financially struggling, but nothing is worth getting to a point where you are sick every morning or becoming poorly. You get no thanks for beating yourself up so be kind to yourself if it’s really awful. My new job is still in education but no marking or exams. The pay is a good £10k below what I was earning but I’m not dreading every day.
I’ve had that visualising myself in accidents to get out of work also, it’s horrible!
My new job is also significantly less money, lots more work but work I can actually get done. Well done on looking after you!

Yeah I’m normally a very positive person but it wasn’t until I left that I realised how poor my mental health was. It took a long time to mentally get over leaving as I’d always wanted to teach and I felt a failure for bailing out but had I carried on I would have either been clinically depressed or worse.
I’m a big advocate for working to live not living to work and no one should go home upset or depressed because of a job - we spend up to half our day working and it’s a lot of time to be hating where you are. It’s really not worth it and there is a better role out there for you, sometimes doing something you’d never even thought about.
Just thought I’d send a happy story out there for anyone who is feeling bad ❤

I’m getting to that ambivalent stage with my job now. A boss who lives to divide and conquer is no fun 🙄 What a sad little life, Jane! 🤣 I’ve been applying to some interesting roles and it’s keeping my spirits up. Even if I don’t hear back it’s nice knowing there are places I could thrive in. I hope everyone who is hating their job can move on to pastures new 🙏🏻

putting my last update to side for a minute, i’ve come to realise how despite my best efforts, i’m just not compatible with my team and the way it operates. the best way to put it is i’m very much a square peg surrounded by round pegs that are having no problem fitting into the round holes. it’s been a struggle trying to adjust, and going against my nature is coming at a personal cost to me. so i want to start looking for more square jobs but know that the round team will promise everything to persuade me not to move on but i’m not confident they can keep their promises. my next step will be trying to persuade them that ‘it’s not you, it’s me’, and remain indifferent (i know of at least one individual who will take it personally). tips welcome!

Totally different sector but the same happened to me when I did a job I hated and felt ethically bad about, and with an awful boss. Before I would have always said work is not that important, just have a fulfilling life outside, but actually looking back at the cost on my mental health it was just awful. I get msot people probably don't lvoe their jobs, but hating it is a whole other issue. Wishing everyone in this situation the luck to find something better ❤

Ok, I felt really bad on Tuesday when I let my manager know that I'd be leaving and he is trying his hardest to find a position that would make me stay ( I won't - I have signed a contract with the other company and another position would not change the circumstances around the company that I'm no longer happy with).

Well, yesterday I told the other managers on the team, again, feeling like leaving them in a lurch. And today.... as if I was a ghost. True, two people were out today, but if this is going to be how my last three months will look like, I'll try to pull out faster. I really hope that it's a fluke today and just people being busy.

I left my job this week and have a mixed bag of emotions. I wanted to leave as i hated it, not the actual job but the people. The people inworked with were very toxic, they just loved making comments all the time and were very petty. I always felt left out and if i was like the stupid one when all honestly i did most of the work.

my manager only got the job as she knew someone in the company. She had no experience and was useless. What was worse she would always side with her friend and be littled me. I didnt even get a leaving do, ive sat through quite a few leaving dos for other colleagues (company has had a massive turn over of staff!!) and desk was decorated, presents card etc.
I walked in to nothing, nothing was even said to me. I kept getting myself upset as i finally knew i wasnt liked after all and i had just been hiding it thinking it was just me. I mentioned to another colleague (diff department) that nothing was done and they were shocked. They had then obviously gone back and said something and involved higher management.

As all of a sudden things were thrown together and it was a half a attemp as they hade obviously just ran to the shops to buy the first cheap crap of a gift they could find. I dont drink wine but was given two bottles of it and some food 😒
There excuse was they were too busy dealing with my other colleagues gift who is leaving at the end of the month. The money people contributed for me and her was purely used just for her. That had answered it all along, i wasnt liked. I knew i was leaving and wasnt upset at the fact im leaving but more to the fact, it was answered that all along i wasnt liked or respected
I should of been walking out with the excitement feeling, starting somewhere new and moving on but ive been constantly feeling like tit because of this.
I have never met such nasty people before who was so two faced and always bitched about each other. One particular person constantly ripped into other people and then all like bessstiiiee to their face. Made me so paranoid to be around her and she was very jekyl and hyde. She would tear you apart if you did anything slightly wrong.

She would also accuse me of lying or saying something wrong. If i did make an error and i apologised for it and offered to rectify it, most people would be like oh thats fine but no she would constantly go on and on and on and on about your error. If though i admitted it was me, she would pull up and print!! Evidence to prove it was me and accuse me of lying even though ive admitted it. She always had her back up for a argument and almost went deaf as she just wouldnt take your words in

Why are women such witches?!! Does it give us a power trip to tear people down. I have never understood why people just cant be some sort of nice.

Is it a good idea to be looking for another job whilst trying to get pregnant? I would only get statutory maternity pay from my current company so it’s not like I’d be missing out on big bucks by staying here

I'd personally say to go for it - you don't know for how long you'll be trying to get pregnant, so you'd be stuck in your current job for quite some time if it doesn't happen soon. I assume that you do want to change jobs, so why stick around?

I moved jobs last Sept while TTC. I was unsure of it for maternity pay reasons but went for it because I was fed up of being happy at work. Still not managed to get pregnant so really glad I made the plunge and I’m happier at work now.. you never know how long it will take! Sending positive vibes you manage to conceive quickly though!

So guys, I’ve been a bit of a lurker on this thread because I’m leaving my job. I finish in like a week.

There are a lot of reasons I’m leaving. But the main one is that in bit progressing in the way I’d like to or getting the mentorship I need to progress. Tbf it’s kind of cause I have a niche skill set in my organization, but I’m still in an entry level position.

Anyways, I’m rambling. But I have found my boss to be so vindictive about the fact that I’m leaving after 11 months. For example, not approving time I’ve worked in lieu etc etc. However my team manager has been as supportive as possible and has said sorry that I have to endure this toxicity.

I posted a while back how I was in a situation of struggling at work and trapped due to mortgage application.
Well I wanted to update my mortgage was approved and contracts on the house were exchanged and I was given the go ahead my by mortgage advisor that I could accept a new job (as long as it had certain terms such as permanent contract etc)

I have my last day at my job today. It’s bittersweet. They tried to keep me , ‘desperate’ to keep me were the words, but the more I considered their proposal the more I realised they wanted to keep me so much as it would benefit them more to not have to re-employ someone than it benefited me to stay. It’s my last day and they still didn’t show me anything physical job offer wise, they wanted me to go off verbal words and ‘trust’.
I was feeling a bit nervous and guilty about leaving today until I read this:

‘You will momentarily forget about the ways the job made you miserable, and you’ll exaggerate the ways it made you happy’ - the niggle in the back of my mind messing with me if I’ve made the right choice.

well I’ve taken a gamble on my new job offer, when I received it I was over the moon and so happy to be getting out of my current job. Funny how your mind messes with you!

I’m done! Last day over and done with after a long 3 months notice.

Can completely relate to the poster above with feelings of ‘have I done the right thing?’ and it felt a bit strange to walk out for the final time but I am just trying to focus on how unhappy I’ve been for the last year and hoping this new job will be a breath of fresh air.

For now, a celebratory dinner and lots of prosecco!

Yeah, look forward now. Forget the last year and go forth with hope.
