I’ve got a job interview tomorrow and it’s a hybrid position in a big company so It’s so much better than where I’m at now. It’s less money but it would give me much better career progression. Fingers crossed I get it🤞

I'm really struggling with work at the moment. I've been there just over a year and the last four months have been so busy with work due for various members of the team, we've been understaffed, no recognition has been given for continuing to meet deadlines we've been given. One person in our office has a slightly different job and sits there all day swinging on his chair, playing on his phone, going for walks to the canteen. We have been raising this for six months and keep being told things are happening in the background, but on the face of it nothing has changed at all! Had a bit of a breakdown today as I got criticised in a meeting for not doing a piece of work that I a) haven't had time to do, and b) was told wasn't needed for two more weeks. Mentioned to my manager (who had noticed I was upset) that it's unfair that I get criticised for missing one thing whilst he does nothing and faces no consequences. Was then told I am making myself miserable by focusing on someone else's behaviour - well you try sitting in the same office as someone who is doing shit all whilst you're run off your feet and not noticing it! It's not possible!

Thank you for your advice and glad to see you guys are happy now! It really does make you mentally ill doesn’t it and that feeling of dread when you wake up!
just hard to find something in the same (ish) field for a similar salary! I need to get out!
For your own mental health and sanity get out of there 😘

I have an interview on Thursday and I'm dreading handing my notice if I get the job because I know it will leave them super short staffed. One member of staff is planning on handing their notice in on Tuesday so if I do they are going to be super short and screwed over.
Well, that's their problem. Your mental well-being has to come first.

Loved my job but hated my manager, she made me so ill and it almost wrecked my relationship due to the stress. Once hauled me in for a verbal warning for a typo in my internal out of office that was on for 2 hours- that's how pathetic she was. Quit in the end, had 6 weeks garden leave and found a job I love, team I love and I am flying high again. I have used the word cunt 3 times in my life but it perfectly describes her.

i left my job of 8 years on 1st March to save my mental health.

my boss was making it incredibly hard for me, to the point I'd hurt myself over it all on more than one occasion. it was hard as i loved my colleagues, but it wasn't worth risking my life.

just realised i never came back to this.
so i started my new job at the end of August and I'm so much happier. my mental health has improved 100%, i have wonderful colleagues and i actually get holiday/sick pay

Yep and I recently moaned about it on here. I hate my job and the field I’m in. Don’t know what else I could do and would be worried to change career as am so used to the salary. The company I work for and my colleagues are lovely, it’s simply the industry I’m in that I hate.

I never used to be like this but for me I’ve been doing it a long time, it’s a stressful job and lockdown has made me realise there should be way more to life.

Just feel stuck!

There is still some recruitment going on now and things will definitely pick up. Focus on applying for other jobs, setting short term goals/distractions and keep telling yourself it’s just a job and shouldn’t take over your life.

I left my awful job (tbh it was management not the job itself that was problematic) a while ago and the new one I started couldn’t be more different. As a result, I’m a different much happier person in only a few weeks and feel like I’m walking around in a cloud most of the time. It’s made me realise the detrimental impact the previous role had on my physical health, my mental health, my self worth, my confidence, my sleeping pattern, my general mood. Life’s too short to be miserable in work, and while I fully appreciate the majority of us NEED our income from work to live, if you’re really unhappy, nothing is changing despite raising your concerns, maybe think about leaving anyway and giving yourself a break. Your health is worth it.

I used to be, but fortunately I’ve managed to get out. I know it’s hard right now but just apply for everything you possibly can, and tell yourself you WILL find something else.

the job I was in made me miserable, I would cry all the time, I felt down constantly. I’d wake up every single morning wishing I was ill so I could call in sick. Eventually I did end up getting ill though and I think it was down to the stress. No job or amount of money if ever worth your health and sanity.

I sincerely hope you find something else soon x

I was in a certain industry 16 years then left to do my dream job , absolutely loved it but due to idiots not seeing the bigger picture regarding childcare I had to leave , it was a case of something that could’ve been sorted for 3 months.
Then I went back into what I used to do ... I fucking despise it with every fibre of my soul , my manager is a grade A fucking piece of shit that the mum should have swallowed , absolutely dirty cunt of a woman , the rest of the staff are stupid lazy cunts
However I AM taking steps to go into a different field but it will take about a year and the Covid situation isn’t helping but , the way I look at it , it’s only for another year or so , it will come I’m confident . Fingers crossed , thankfully I’m furloughed so haven’t got to mix with them , for now.
The company send mental health posts by email , but they’re all wrong’uns and none of them mean a word of it , they’re doing it to give themselves a pat on the back , virtue signalling ... ‘ look at me ain’t I great ‘ and it all looks good when they have their appraisals to their bosses

I only have 1 more day with my hideous boss - she is off on Friday which is my last day here.
I am so nervous about my new job, it is stopping me sleeping. What if I am not capable, what if I don't meet their expectations? I have never felt so insecure about my own abilities!
On the plus side, I had an email from my new place last week saying my new Iphone & Macbook have been delivered and asking if I want to use my current apple ID or set up a new work based one for them. I feel like a kid at Christmas! lol

I'm sick to death (physically) and tomorrow is a bank holiday, but I will be in nonetheless. Someone just pinged me at 6.30pm asking me to write an entire report that takes a week to write and deliver it by tomorrow EOD. Tomorrow is an off day for most people over here and in the US. That's an absolutely insane ask. Additionally, I'm pretty sure that even if I kill myself this evening and tomorrow to deliver it, it won't be read until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest.

If you need something urgently, you give me at least 48 hours notice. Asking me to do a 3 days week in 1 is unreasonable, especially as this report goes to senior management, so if I botch it, I'm in for a ride.

I'm not one to push back, but I had to say this is simply not feasible. If they want to get rid of me, they can go ahead. I've worked like a crazy person for two years and not even a single thank you, so I'm standing my ground now.

I'm still mad at them for the way they treated me after my dad died in December ..slamming me with work on my first day back as if nothing had happened and not even one person asking me if I'm OK. It was a complete disinterest. Not one single manager scheduled a catch-up after my return from compassionate leave or has pinged me to ask how I'm doing. I'm not a slave and I'm standing my ground.

Not here to complain about my job but can I please urge some of you to start putting what’s happening in your workplaces in writing? Eg IT taking ages to sort you out - email manager to say that’s why you can’t do XYZ job. You’ve asked for a meeting about workload and it’s sprung on you that suddenly you’re incompetent - email to follow up that you’ve only been told about this once you’ve expressed concerns about your competence. Being told you’re not speaking up enough in meetings - email to say you find it hard to get a word in so can they implement a policy where you have to ‘raise your hand’ on Teams etc to ensure everyone who wants to speak gets a chance. Some of these posts are employment tribunals waiting to happen and if you don’t document these things you’re going to be up shit creek without a paddle.
Back to lurking!

I feel a little uncomfortable asking this but how do you get signed off sick from work? What do you say to the doc and can they refuse you?
I returned to my role after mat leave and have just been left with no training or induction (a lot has changed), I try every day to go in positively and ask what I can do and how I can help and everyone just shrugs at me and there’s an awkward silence. It’s got to the point where I just feel embarrassed and humiliated. My anxiety is really high on a work day and I just feel really low and it’s affecting my confidence in other areas of my life.

I’ve always liked my job and got on well with colleagues. Always been seen as the positive one so it feels really horrible to be in this situation.
I recently had to be signed off work due to toxic colleagues who made my life a misery. I had a telephone appointment with my GP. She was so empathetic and understanding. She took so much time to listen to me and asked me how long I wanted to be signed off for. I had to get my stress leave extended quite a few times, and it wasn't a problem. Just be honest, explain precisely how you are feeling. Workplace stress can be debilitating. Good luck.

Does anyone have a WFH job? I kinda think I want to go down this route but wanted to hear pros and cons? I never got to work from home throughout the pandemic so I’ve never experienced it before
I worked from home through the pandemic in a previous job and I really didn’t enjoy it. It was great at first because like others have said there’s no commute, you can make yourself proper meals, no shared bathrooms, didn’t have to spend time getting ready etc. I definitely saved a lot of money working from home.

What made me start to hate it was that I live in a flat and have no garden or outside space so had nowhere to ‘escape’ to on breaks to get fresh air. I was so jealous of my colleagues that were able to sit in their garden with their Surface Pro and work from there! I have AWFUL neighbours who blare their music at all hours of the day and night, have violent fights and arguments that meant constant slamming of doors and dishes being smashed. Not only did it make it difficult to concentrate on my work but it would’ve been heard by anyone I was on a call with. I worked for the civil service in a fairly sensitive role so would need to have difficult conversations with people and having them hear Oasis blaring in the background isn’t exactly professional.

I found it difficult to get in touch with management too, calls would go unanswered or messages wouldn’t be read properly. It was so much easier being in the same office and just going up to them to get an answer about something. I didn’t have a proper set up/office either so was working from my dressing table and as I’d only recently moved into my place there was moving boxes and shit everywhere so was in a ‘messy’ environment which I found very distracting.

All of the above eventually took it’s toll and I found myself becoming depressed and falling into bad habits. I started at 9am and would roll out of bed at 08:50, not even making an effort to get changed out of pyjamas. Sometimes I wouldn’t get dressed for days on end and a week could go by before I left the house. I had no one to talk to about it because I live alone and obviously my colleagues had no idea because we weren’t seeing each other. I eventually quit, unsurprisingly.

However… I would work from home again but only if the following circumstances applied.
- I lived elsewhere with no direct neighbours/not in a flat and had a garden or balcony
- I had a dedicated office space
- A hybrid role where I could attend an office if needed

Your environment is THE most important thing to consider when looking at working from home. I am an introverted person and enjoy my own company so WFH should be ideal for me, but because my environment wasn’t right it ended up being a disaster.

Sorry for the unnecessary novel btw🤣
