Have you guys seen they've pulled out of Reading & Leeds last minute due to "scheduling clashes"... VMAs are the same day as Reading. Just saying.

Glad I didn’t get tickets for Leeds this year now! Them and Arctic Monkeys were my main reason for thinking about it.

Loves the first episode of On the Road, you can really see how young and fun they all are. Ethans hair is total goals and given me the kick to grow mine out.

I really enjoyed it - my favourite bit was when Ethan was eating the crisps in Vilnius :ROFLMAO:

it's now been confirmed by the reading organisers: what an absolutely baffling decision from them, seriously, what are they thinking? it's such a massive event, they'd be performing on the same stage as very famous rock acts like arctic monkeys; it really is a privilege to be booked for an iconic festival like Reading, and they've thrown it away to perform supermodel at the VMAs??!

i think this will make festival organisers think twice about booking them in the future. also, how disappointing for any maneskin fans who were excited to see them live

imo, it seems like they're starting to get high off their own fumes

I think it sums them up tbh. I'm still a fan but they're very much about image over authenticity. I mean, x factor, eurovision, vmas- none of it screams rock and roll to me. They're posers they're just very good at it and they do have the talent to back it up. Fair play to them I suppose 🤷‍♀️

It is extremely disappointing. Even if they knew they were going to win, just do an acceptance video like everyone else does? It's baffling in the extreme.

After the whole Eurovision thing I’m not that surprised. I remember there were reports that they didn’t turn up to the rehearsals and had already chosen not to play their winning song. Obviously the injury was unfortunate, and I don’t remember whether that was the reason they didn’t attend rehearsals, but it just seemed to be that the plan was always to perform Supermodel.

And then not handing over the trophy? Man, the group is made up of more than one person. Even if they’re still salty about the whole drug nonsense, it’s the sort of stuff others in their position would have laughed off or made into a joke of sorts

Apparently the people who organise Reading and Leeds are behind organising a lot of festivals in the UK so they may have pissed off the top guys

Surely it makes more sense to perform at the VMA's, bigger audience worldwide, more prestigious etc. I can understand it but if I had tickets to see them at Reading I'd be highly pissed off!

Supermodel is such a weak song, they're capable of much better.

Agree with you, Supermodel really isn't great. Looking at their last few single releases is concerning because they've all been these weak generic pop rock songs you'd hear on mainstream radio - and all in English, too. Some of their best songs are in their mother tongue.
Teatro d'ira has some fantastic songs on it, but of all the songs they could've chosen as a follow up single to Zitti e Buoni they went with I Wanna Be Your Slave 🤦🏻‍♀️

They could be putting some genuinely amazing rock music out into the world, but it feels like they've stopped doing that in favour of pandering to the international masses.

Still, I love them a lot and I wish them all the best at the VMAs, it's certainly an honour to be invited to play there.

I read an article actually a while back that mentioned IWBYS - it was never meant to be a single. The management company were keeping track of streams, as I believe La Paura Del Buio was supposed to be the next single, but IWBYS just flew ahead in popularity so they went with that instead. Unfortunately, if you want to "make it" - you have to go with the masses.

Yep, though maybe they’ll reconsider a bit after Supermodel. It seems that it did semi-okay with charting, possibly partly fuelled by the success of IWBYS, but from what I’ve seen the fans don’t seem to overwhelmingly love it

I think the problem for them is that their fan base isn’t really that established internationally and it will take a while and probably a few good releases for that to really happen. At the moment I see them as turning more into “that band that won Eurovision and was briefly popular for that one song and a few covers and being hot”. Trying to extend their fan base with the VMAs, when they may not even be that established in the US, seems like it could hurt their current fan base too and not really have the impact they’d probably want to have

There is an excellent thread on Twitter at the moment from user Musicals_esc_me about this - I can't link as I'm on work laptop but I recommend reading it, I certainly learnt a few things!
