It has a teal background with pink and red flamingos, toucans and cacti! I bought it from my local shop. Sent an email and they replied with photos of their sweatshirt fabric, then delivered it to my house .
It’s the second time they have had to close, so I buy as much as I can from them.


Tilly and the buttons have an online workshop to teach how to use a sewing machine.

That fabric sounds sublime. Are you in the UK? Don’t want to you or anything but I would love some sweatshirting like that.

Has anyone tried selling their creations on Etsy? I did. The stuff I put in my shop was well worth the modest prices, I think. I got barely any views, never mind sales, despite carefully chosen tags etc.. So, about 20 quid DOWN, I pulled down the shutters. The only winner here was Etsy, and I'm disgusted. I'm bringing my creations to the local charity shop, and they are welcome to any money they make from them. Sod Etsy.

I list some of my hand made crafts on Etsy but they don't get much traffic plus Etsy fees are ridiculous. I also list them on eBay and Vinted and have more success with these than Etsy. At least Vinted and eBay don't charge you an insertion fee.

I agree. It is either going to make people feel sad that they can't live up to an impossible standard, or the poster will get praise for work they didn't do. Handmade goods will have little quirks in it, it is part of what makes them unique.

Yarn can be pretty darn expensive. I am not going to be upset over what someone wants to use.

Being in the Northeast I am lucky enough to be able to go to a Boyes store. They have a large yarn section ( alongside all the other random household and craft stuff they sell).

I have to be careful because it is very easy to just buy random balls of pretty colours without a specific project in mind. When I first started I got caught out and bought some random things that aren't really enough to make anything with.

However saying that, I did get some really nice and soft yarns from them before Xmas. They had been marked down as only a few left in each dye batch, so I grabbed a few to go in scarfs and snoods for people.

I am alsoguilty of buying yarn with no plan.

But today I found this CAL called a stitch sampler by Hooked on Homemade Happiness and the idea is you learn a new stitch each week and use your stash. I think it is ideal for me as most projects I have done are very simple stitches so I can expand my knowledge of stitches and use up the yarn I have.

I plan to do the CAL after my current project. It might be an idea for anyone who wants a stash busting project.

Does anyone make their own clothes here?

I'd love to try and make some clothes for my toddler, I got a nice sewing machine for Christmas and so far have made the front of a quilt (tiny, made it completely the wrong size, it's wonky and I hate it so haven't put it on any padding or backing yet) and a Happy Birthday bunting banner. I just have no idea where to start :/

Didn’t realise there was a craft thread, I made my own a few months ago but forgot about it
So many talented tattlers! I started embroidery this year, my first project was my old converse then I started on the yellow ones which I’ve not finished yet.

I tried crocheting as I’ve seen some gorgeous things on Pinterest but I just cannot get the hang of it. I’ve asked my mum if she will teach me to knit, my closest friend is having a baby early next year and I’d love to be able to make a blanket or something for them.
I also want to try making a resin key ring with flowers from my sisters funeral but need to do more research as don’t want to mess up and ruin them.

Loooove the yellow cons.

I am trying to transition from cross stich to embroidery to be able to do exactly this! So I'm very impressed

I know that sometimes squares will curl up if you’re not using a big enough hook so I think it should work, hopefully.

Thanks for the suggestion! It hasn't particularly helped the curling but it does look better on the big hook so at least there's that

Years ago I made cards for a short period of time. Sold a few but I think I got hooked more on buying crafts supplies than actually crafting.

I have tons of card, paper, and little adornments, decorations, etc, and I feel like I really want to make stuff but don't really know what.

I have a box of cute little paper giftbags I made ages ago and done nothing with. I also have loads of little pots and bottles, etc. Many recycled.

Years ago, I trained as an holistic therapist and I had quite a lot of oils, creams I needed to use up. I popped them into the little pots, bottles, etc, dolled them up so they looked really cute and took them into work at Christmas for people to help themselves. People loved them and left me little donations.

TBH, I can't get into making products as it's so complicated and time-consuming. I did think about buying wholesale and decanting into my own packaging - I contacted a good wholesaler and they said this was fine as long as properly labelled. Thought it might be nice to try and do some gift fairs but just at Christmas time. However, I work weekends and this is when they all take place. Online is a bit too risky as if they don't sell after a certain amount of time I'd have to chuck them.

Then I thought I could just make little decorative gift bags, card topers, dolled-up containers, etc, and try and sell them online (or somewhere). Not to make money but maybe just recoup a few expenses and get all these craft supplies used up.

I feel the urge to do something but have no real idea what. Any of you creative peeps have any ideas?

Update on Mystery Box. I got the Knitting Network Mystery box. It promised 18 balls of yarn, valued at around £45.00

It cost £19.99.

I received

2 x balls of Angora yarn ( very soft, have not used before)
2x White Value yarn ( think something you would make basic baby stuff from)

4 x balls of Emu DK in green and blue. This is a new brand for me, I am happy to try and will easily find a use for it.

2 x a colour change Yarn from a brand called Sunflower. 50gs each. Not sure what to do, but it is pretty.

The rest are balls of colour changing cotton yarns. They aren't colours I would pick, but I haven't had much experience with cotton so I am happy to try it out and not worry about ruining the yarn.

I am satisfied with my box, as I have got a few yarn types I have not used before, so I have a small amount to try out without committing to spending a lot of money

I mostly use the knitting network for yarn their offers are really good i bought some papatya cakes a while ago still sat in my stash but lovely to look at.

I have finally finished all 120 of my granny squares but I am losing the will to live having to sew them all together. I have around 20 sewn together but my back is broken from it so I am taking a break

The friend who taught me how to crochet just told me she is pregnant so i am starting a blanket for her. I have decided to do the Attic24 neat ripple in a rainbow of colours as her only ask is that it is bold and colourful. Her 1st pregnancy I told her to pick the pattern and we chose the colours together but this time she is giving me free rein. She told me she doesnt expect another one but I know how much she treasures them so it is a pleasure to make one for her.

Oh I feel your pain. But join as you go is a literal life saver.

I’ve used that neat ripple pattern and it’s lovely.

That is really good work. I love how you arranged the colours. I have never made anything that involves sewing little squares together as I would get sick before the end of the first row. Good on you for pushing through and finishing it.

I didn’t actually sew the squares together, I always join them as I go along. I would have gone insane with that much sewing - the flipping flowers were bad enough.

I’m really interested in the mystery bags - what do you all do with just a few balls of different types of yarn?

Have you seen this, the lady reviews them - may help you decide either way:



Quite often she reviews the latest releases and gadgets to help you see if they are worth buying. If you only crochet a certain size of yarn most of the time, then perhaps treat yourself to that hook rather than a full set? I probably only use between 3mm-6mm, most of the time. I have bought Clover Amours separately over time as and when a new project says a new size. Probably I might end up with half a set before long

I do the same with the Clover Amour hooks but I mostly use a 2.5, 3 or a 4mm. The set is pretty but I decided to just get what I need and when.
