Do colds kill 100k people a year? Is there 'long cold'? Where the impact of a cold stays with you for years leaving you with damaged heart and lungs?
Good question! I’ve never thought about this before but if everyone was testing regularly for the common cold and everyone was ‘cold tested’ on hospital admission/during hospital stays, and any death within 28 days of a positive ‘cold test’ were counted in the same way that Covid deaths are then I imagine the answer to “Do colds kill 100k people a year?” would probably be ‘Yes’.

“Is there long cold……..” I believe there is, yes. More commonly referred to as post viral fatigue. Viruses and the immune system response they trigger can and do cause other longer lasting issues. They’ve never been made such a fuss of previously though.

They tell you if it’s the new variant
Is this for anyone testing positive in a PCR?

I can’t sleep because I’m so so so scared of being locked in Wales again, whilst my boyfriend and friends are all out living their lives across the border

I can’t sleep either I’m so anxious for my babies growing up with all this absolute bollocks, terrified about what sort of world I’ve brought them into and feeling terrible guilt about everything. In Northern Ireland and just feel sick at the thought of them bringing in charges for healthcare.

honestly, this is going to break people so much. My mental health isn’t great but it isn’t as awful as someone with a severe mental health condition so people like me are just left to get on with it. At least I have my husband for support but some people have no one. I’m crying a lot these days, every time I look at my kids faces I just want to break down. They didn’t sign up for this. None of us did. 😔

The vaccinated spread the virus more slowly. He doesn't get how viruses or vaccines work, does he?

Conversely, someone who is vaccinated might be more likely to be out and about spreading the virus as they feel fine. Whereas someone unvaxxed might be feeling the effects and staying home as they feel poorly ?

I definitely take more care and I'm not vaccinated. People at work have stopped testing twice a week because they are vaccinated, dont wear their mask properly because they are vaccinated, keep breaking bubbles because they are vaccinated, come to work with symptoms because they are vaccinated and one got caught speeding on the motorway last week after testing positive for covid and in isolation but felt he was ok to go out because he had a minor cold type symptoms and is vaccinated.

All of them are refusing fine booster yet never miss a chance to tell me I'm irresponsible.

Yet covid is going through our work place at a rate. I was the only one who had it at the beginning of the year when no one was vaccinated, now there is only me and 3 other unvaccinated who havent got it, everyone else is testing positive. I also received a verbal warning as I had to isolate due to not be vaccinated so they decided it meant my absent record was too high and needed addressing. They said that 28 days sick for the year was too much, despite 24 of those days were me having covid in January. However if I get vaccinated, the verbal warning will be withdrawn.

Yes ‘long Covid’ is what is normally called ‘post viral infection’ or ‘post viral fatigue’ which is common after very bad colds or flu. I’ve had both and signed off work for six weeks after I contracted flu in 2014

I would like to know the stats of age of death and comorbid conditions today. I am probably going to sound heartless I have work in a mental health hospital with an elderly organic/brain injury unit attached non of the patients on the working age wards died of COVID or got seriously ill. On the elderly/brain injury unit we lost half of the patients while very sad these people were approaching the end of their lives with dementia and other health conditions say they didn't have COVID it would be approx 6 months before they passed so COVID sped up the decline and the end. Many people on this ward were well in their 80s and 90s.

They used to call pneumonia old man's friend without being controversial I definitely think the world now views every death as a failure instead of a natural thing we all will die at some point it's not
a failure . People are being kept alive with multiple organ failure and serious cognitive decline with low quality of life.

Are the rules different in england and Scotland if you are a close contact? I had to isolate until I got my PCR result when my driving instructor tested positive but my boss said I didn’t have to. He’s Newcastle based
Yes they are at the moment. Close contacts need to isolate until negative PCR. Household contacts need to isolate regardless of PCR result or vaccine status :(

I've just actually read the median age of death of COVID is 83 which is older than the average life expectancy. Which is insane !!!!

Of the people I know who’ve had Covid recently, the people who’ve had it the worst are the ones who are either unvaccinated or haven’t yet had the booster. Those I know who’ve been boosted have just had what could be confused with a heavy cold.

Back when Delta was flavour of the month, I got it after 2 vaccinations. It was a cold (with negative LFTs) for 4 days. Had the sinus pain - as colds always go to my teeth and cause pain which is delightful. Only once the LFT then PCR said positive did my taste/smell go bye bye. Never had a temp. Cough came once my isolation was up 🤷‍♀️. Either way it felt no different to former cold bugs and normally I'd have gone to work and soldiered on lol

Not sure if this is the right place to look for advice, but wondered if someone could help.

I am testing negative every day on lateral flows but when I check the test about an hour later there is a faint positive line. This isn’t new, it’s been happening since I recovered from Covid in July. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced similar and if it’s anything to worry about? Going home on Tuesday so really really hoping I’m definitely negative!
The instructions I'm my pack clearly say "don't read the result after 30 minutes". So I think you're OK.

Last night was so bizarre we went to a pub which had a dance floor that started playing music from 10pm. We were all on it until around 12:30am, they stopped the music and announced we all had to stand outside the venue and have our covid passes checked. There were a few people who had a negative test and that was accepted. We then returned to the dance floor and continued. It was just so so bizarre.

They still only sequence a small percentage if PCR tests.

If you have been to an omicron hot spot or from overseas your test is more likely to be sequenced. But they still aren't doing all of them.

So you could have omicron and not know.

Deleted post out of fear.

Getting ready for angry faces...

Situation is we have Covid in my house , I'm not vaccinated so must isolate even though (touch wood) I'm still negative. The vaccinated in my house are allowed to live life, go out, work and socialise. There is no rhyme or reason to this imbalance.
I'm a rule follower but my physical and emotional health needed me to get out of the house so I did it, I went for a fresh air run. What's frightening was how scared I was of being in trouble, paranoid that I'm being watched and someone will tap me on the shoulder. What shocked me was how guilty and anxious I felt about being a "criminal" and what made me angry was that a criminal is a drug dealer, thief, and I'm having my human rights and freedom taken away because I'm not vaccinated.

Forcing isolation on the healthy unvaccinated is about punishment and not about health.

The only people I know that have had it are double vaccinated
