I’d like to add that the oil industry here is the most heavily regulated and if we’re going to have oil and gas, and let’s face it currently we HAVE to, you want it from the UK sectors (or Norway) as far as environment, safety and human rights for workers/locals are concerned.
When I was a child I remember news reports saying that oil and gas would run out early this century. Nobody was bothered about climate change then, just the fact that supplies would run out.
Being a naive child I thought that governments around the world would put money into developing a new fuel for the future. Its deeply disappointing that the only real alternative appears to be nuclear power which of course brings its own problems and could also badly damage the environment

I still think those Gatwick drones were something to do with climate activists testing the waters for disruption but the backlash and security breaches were so bad they never admitted to it
is that a per capita reading? More people and industry (well, not all, but some industries…) will raise that obviously. And with Germany shutting down the nuclear plants, other stuff gets burned, which was just a stupid move, if you ask me.

This 100%. Let’s face it Qatar got the World Cup due to the liberal circulation of brown envelopes (allegedly) and I see almost zero legacy from this. Does a country that size need eight hi tech stadiums after the tournament? Even if football, for which they have zero history and previously little discernible interest, “takes off”.
I will however enjoy the spectacle of Gary Linekar, displaying his JSO supporting virtue, from a state of the art Doha press centre funded almost entirely from fossil fuel sales.
I bet that stadium will go to ruins after the World cup is over, just like all those newly built stadiums disintegrated in Brazil after the WC there and many of the Olympic games sites in China are also in shambles. I'm rather sure read that there already are problems in Qatar with the stadium, but can't remember where (something about the extreme heat plus sandstorms affecting the materials). I don't doubt one second the brown envelopes, why ever would there be a football game there? Frankly, I hope it turns out to be rit, to prove a point. That's obviously terrible for the people actually playing but maybe it'll solve this problem in the longer run.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t resent their riches, if someone was to offer me £500k per week to kick a ball around I guarantee I will take it, just don’t take fans for utter fools. A cautionary tale for football lies in the Snooker boom of the 1980’s when even mildly successful players became household names. When it went pop it went pop big time.
When a club is sold to the Saudi’s, and the fans celebrate the prospect of players earning hundreds of thousands of pounds per week in a city most of them probably didn’t know even existed until last year, then it reaches a point where the only place left to go is Colombian Drug Lords or Vladimir Putin. And for what? A shiny metal object they will only be allowed to view (a copy of) from behind glass and rope.

Well, yes, Germany has more than the UK, but without context this reads a bit odd when there are much bigger fish to fry out there, like the rightfully pointed-out Emirates, China, etc. Germany has ~83 million inhabitants, the UK around 67. Per capita though, the UK is still lower than Germany, which is where things get more interesting, as obviously both are highly developed western countries, so the standard of living and all that is mostly equal.
Germany has a tit ton of car traffic, which will greatly contribute here, not only because people love to drive, but also because basically everyone in mainland Europe needs to drive through it. And then don't get me started on how we get electricity here! From what I get from Statista, the UK has about 20% from nuclear plants, and Germany has ~4%, which will also add loads to the picture. But yeah, feels like peanuts against China and all that, and there the per capita is even higher than in UK and Germany. Just checked out Oman, it's 16.9 against UK's 4.66....
and the Emirates is even higher at 20.7! That surely ought to be discussed somewhere? While I think it's great if people here question how they use resources and try to do things more sustainably, there are factors out there that you simply cannot compete against by using less electricity at your home.Yep. Enough of this BS. Time for the fed up motorists caught up in this crap to take direct action against those involved. I don't generally agree with violence, unless absolutely backed into a corner - which these protesters are now doing to the public.
I think it now the only thing that will get though to these protesters and curtail their actions. The wrath of the fed up public.

I work near one of the junctions they have closed, it is absolute choas. It's wet, everyone is cross and late and it will and has caused accidents. I took me over an hour to get to work, which should take 30 mins max.

I now of the mindset they need a public kicking - quite literally.
The Police won't act effectively against them, so the public should do their job. I'm sick and tired of the cat footing that occurs around these idiot protesters.

Surrey Police like most other 'forces' nowadays are effing useless.
They'll happily stop you in the street to ask what you're doing at 10pm at night, yet fail to take action against those that cause problems like the lunatic protesters.
If the Police don't step and do what they are paid to do, uphold law and order -as far as I'm concerned - they have zero grounds for complaint when the public step in to do what they should be doing to begin with.
The Assistant Met Commissioner, Mark Rowley, is another overpaid hole, paid at our expense. His attitude towards these protesters highlights what is wrong with the Police.
