I’ve written this before on another thread but I once got an ironing board from my minted auntie, she got it at a car boot sale and it still had the price label on the back (1p) it was broken 🤣
My grandma last year got me a hamster calendar 🥺
The worst to date however was probably from my aunties (now Ex) husband who bought me a Christmas bauble saying ‘cheeky girl’ on it when I was 16 😷

Not really a moan, just gave me a bit of a giggle this morning. My granddad every year without fail will give me a Christmas card with £10 in it. I’m always happy with it, who doesn’t like free money?! So before I’d even got round to opening anything this morning, he calls, wishes me a merry Christmas and apologises that there’s not much in the card as he didn’t have much in his wallet and hasn’t been able to get to a cash machine as his car battery is dead 🤣 So at this point I’m thinking, “ok, maybe there’s £5 in it, still not gonna moan!” Told him that we were just about to start opening presents and I’d call him back in a couple of hours. Got round to opening his card and the first thing that made me laugh was the fact it was a birthday card where he had crossed out “happy birthday” and wrote “Merry Christmas” on it instead. Opened the card and I shit you not... the entire inside of the card was BLANK. No writing, no little card message, nothing and no money 😂😂😂 he completely forgot to write anything but thought he had and sent it. When I told him he was kicking himself but I couldn’t help but laugh. 😫

Same, my mum had hundreds. All on string across all four walls in every downstairs room!
My mum always made us cut them up with pinking shears to use for gifts tags next year! Now she'd probably be seen as an up cycler/eco warrior .... we just thought she was tight 🥴

I did a 3 hour round trip to give the MiL her gift as a favour to the poorly husband, I really didn't want to go. She asked me to load her car up with her gifts to her daughter and family, took me three trips with large bags and before I go, could I clean up something she'd spilled on the bedroom carpet? It was diarrhoea. No shame of it from her at all and no gifts for us when I was leaving. Only a swivel of her head to have a quick look of what else she could get me to do but I was off. I had to pull up on the motorway home to honk up. The smell was horrendous. He's been told straight, that is the last straw and I will not go there ever again. He started off with a 'was I sure it was that...and backtracked very rapidly. I think he got a whiff of me.

I have allergies and know this feeling well, someone always ends up buying chocolates and toiletries that I can't use. At least with my siblings (all mid 20s to 30s now) we just get each other vouchers as 1) we know it's easier and we can get what we want and 2)it suits my brothers to buy gift cards because they are disorganised and hate the whole wrapping process. Each of us ends up happy then we get to choose. We'll probably eventually knock swapping vouchers on the head soon too and spend the money on ourselves. 😂
Lol my brother is like this depending how he feels about you on birthday/Christmas he will turn up with a card with money in it or nothing at all😂

I feel terrible this year but my well paid 30 odd year old brother with 4 kids asked me “are we doing gifts this year?” Considering if I say yea then I buy him something double the budget on asos and he gets me a Nivea set half the budget from
Tesco I said no. I’m a year older with no kids and have never had an auntie card from
His kids but usually spend hundreds on them so this year I’ve spent nothing on any of his family. They have a card. And I don’t even feel bad. Plus I am SE WFH and have had them every holiday this year and already spent hundreds on them with not a single thanks 😂. So over being treat like a mug.

My former husband came from a large family, he had 9 brothers and sisters, each with partners and children. It was the rule everyone had to go to the family home for xmas dinner which was in three sittings there were too many to all eat at the same time and to give everyone a gift however small. These were mainly whatever everyone could steal from work. One of his sisters worked in an electrical component's factory so we all got plugs or sockets. A few were unemployed so shoplifted what they could. To be fair they were the better gifts.

I can't quite get over the posters whose OH's don't get them anything, even from the kids. I find that really sad, unless it's a pre-agreed thing, which it clearly isn't in those cases.

The fifth year of our relationship, my (now) MiL bought me a gift (her first). It was a £2.50 box of Asda biscuits for cheese (I am lactose intolerant). The OH got an expensive winter coat. I took great delight when we got home in crumbling the biscuits on to the bird table and watching the fat pigeons tuck in….

I didn't get a single present or card from my partner or kids. I should be used to this by now as it happens most birthdays and Christmas but it feels like an extra kick in the teeth at the moment. I've been really suffering with my mental health the last couple of months and though I know I'm not worthless, it certainly doesn't go any way to making me feel cared about.

I'm really dreading going back to work next week and being asked the usual "did you get anything nice" and hearing what efforts everyone else's families have made.
So sorry to read this. That is an appalling way to be treated by family. I honestly think they need a taste of their own medicine: if the kids are old enough to know better then I would suggest next year they get a card but nothing else. If they ask why just tell them you’re using the money to treat yourself for a change given they seem incapable of buying you a present.

Luckily the kids didn't even notice. They have had more than enough and havnt questioned the where abouts of their £1.50 selection box. Apparently he doesn't belive in the "Christmas hype" that's absolutely fine, but don't expect anything from us. Hes very selfish, if you don't bother with our kids, don't think we will be bothered about you.
Hah, that's a load of shit 😂 Doesn't believe in Christmas hype but feels very comfortable with asking for a £75 computer game and then tells mummy on you and your partner? Man child. Good on you for telling him to get fucked, he has some nerve.

😲 What a liberty taker 😡
my SIL use to do this all the time with her son. We would ask what he needs/wants for Christmas and we would get asked to buy a £60 Xbox game. No way!

One year we got him one present which was £30 and our other nephew 2 presents which was also £30. She rang us to see where his second present was as he wanted two presents like the the other nephew. Thicko.

i do agree that Christmas is about the kids however my 3yr old got so much this year he shit himself out of pure excitement over a Thomas train and then cried himself to sleep for his nap at 3pm.

Not me, but my husband got his sister a voucher for £70 for her favourite restaurant and as he usually does, put both our names on the card.
She gave him a card with just his name on it and a £10 voucher for a local (shit) take away.

She's single and in a high paying job, so it's not that she can't afford it, she's just incredibly mean.
I wouldn't mind but the takeaway in question is one she knows we never go too because it's been closed down twice before due to hygiene breaches. There is another takeaway that we do go to and a voucher from there would have been okay.

I don't care on my own account because I know she doesn't like me anyway, but I'm angry and upset for my husband who puts a lot of thought into what he gets his family every year and just gets something like that back in return :(

So awkward… my Mum and Dad haven’t given me or my husband presents. Littlepotato has his, but we don’t have ours. She mentioned that we did have gifts as we have had a shite year but now they aren’t there. There is a reason behind this, it’s because we are moving away and she’s pissed off. Great.

My sister in law got me an echo falls set. I don’t drink wine.

Is 0808am too early too cry??

Ps 4 year olds don’t dare about clothes!!!!!

This thread has me howling. I wish people would just ask what shops etc people like and buy a gift card. I genuinely feel a supermarket gift card is more thoughtful rn than a dove shower set…
I asked my husband for a Superdrug gift card last Christmas, it's one of my favourite presents ever. It's kept me in skincare and hair dye for almost a whole year, and I've also bought new hairbrushes, a make-up bag, and even nicotine patches, and I get points on my loyalty card too. No Dove gift sets in this house!

I used to be a lot bigger, and my Mum always buts me a jumper/Tshirt that is in my old size. It's been 3 Christmas' now and she's done it every year.
Her response is "Well I don't know what size you are now"
🤦🏻‍♀️😂 I have randomly dropped it many times in conversation what size I am.
She normally follows with "Oh well, just incase"

Not really a moan, but for the past 4 years my mum and dad have bought me a lego set. So far I have had a VW camper van, London bus, Harley Davidson and this year a land rover defender.

I just want to point out I'm a 47yr female and not sure where they got the idea I like Lego
