My partner received a bottle of alcohol from his sister.
He used to be a heavy drinker and hasn't had a drink in almost 9 years 🙃😂

So I want to say upfront that I know that this has been a very challenging/rubbish/upsetting etc. year for everyone and that we should always be grateful for presents people have bought us... However, hoping this thread can be a safe place to have a moan about presents we have received that are a little disappointing: perhaps they missed the mark, perhaps they were totally useless, or thoughtless, or were given for a dig or were clearly regifted etc.

I used to be a PA and one of the other PAs got a bangle from her (female) boss...it was engraved on the inside with the boss' initials. We assume she hadn't noticed that detail before she regifted it.

Ohhh this is my thread 🤣 I’ve had some bloody shockers over the years. The worst one was from an ex-boyfriend’s mum. She got me a massive Paul’s Boutique handbag (if anyone remembers them circa 2009). It was a shade of pink I’ve never seen outside of the highlighter pen section in WHSmith, you could have seen it from outer space. It was covered in My Little Pony patches and little dangly beaded tassels. Truly the handbag that taste forgot. The worst part being that every time I went round to her house or went somewhere I knew she’d be, I had to actually use the fucker 😖😖

Confession

I necked the echo falls from the echo falls gift set while doing the washing up. Not really a wine fan but it’s wet and I needed it after a day of my son giving me attitude.

IT WASNT THAT BAD!!!!

The amount of people that buy me lush bath bombs knowing full well I don’t even have a bath in my house 😂 I expect at least one every year.

My Nan’s present is usually funny to open too. She’s 89 so doesn’t really spend much and isn’t able to get to the shops very well so the present is always something she’s won at the bingo 😂 it’s become a joke now of who gets the worst present from Nan (obviously we thank her and appreciate the thought regardless!)

I tried to not buy anything for one my brothers and his 4 kids after last year but caved last minute and got them all stuff. Bought my other brother and his kid and dogs quite a lots of stuff . I’m vulnerable so alone this Christmas. They picked it up from outside my door, didn’t say thank you or anything and honestly presents mean nothing but the fact they didn’t even give me a card from my nieces and nephews broke me. As soon as I shut the door I burst into tears 😭. Am I just weird or greedy wishing for a card?

Anyway I hope you all have a gorgeous Christmas♥
It’s not much but you have us. I didn’t even get a card off my parents and then my mum has the cheek to say my son hasn’t given her a card. Sorry mum, in the middle of grieving my grandpa, my daughter and moving house. Cut me some slack!

Adults moaning about gifts is just wrong 😂
Buy what you need yourself,
give nothing if you expect something in return.
Listen if you’re jealous about my echo falls gift set, just say

My father wasn't great at presents but he knew that he was expected to give them. Very traditional. Mum could always expect flowers at Christmas, her birthday and Valentine's (which was also their anniversary). After I was around 17 he recruited me to buy most of my mum's presents and repaid me but at Christmas and birthdays he would always take a trip to the jeweller and get presents for me and Mum. No great imagination but nice - he took guidance from the jewellers who knew us! That's what he was brought up to do (born in 1920); a man bought his wife and daughter(s) what jewellery he could afford. He used to mutter darkly about my mum's cousin who could well afford expensive stuff but never bought his wife jewellery or anything pretty. He saw that as very ungentlemanly.

My MIL used to wrap up freebies she got from work. Like stress balls and pens with various companies on them and we’d all be sat around opening them like total idiots, so uncomfortable because what do you say to a medical company stress ball ??? These were meant as actual presents too not even a joke. Luckily she retired so no longer has access to the freebie tat. She’s also given me a box of tissues wrapped before and a single novelty printed toilet roll…

Does what you’ve not received count?
My Aunt (mums sister) didn’t even get me a card. She visited my Mum yesterday and brought presents for my mum, my mums boyfriend and my eldest daughter. I’ve just left an abusive relationship and am completely alone this Christmas with a baby whilst my Mum has my 4 year old because I’m exhausted. I’m not having Christmas dinner, seeing much family etc. My aunt is very well off and can afford a 50p Christmas card. It sounds like nothing to some people but it makes you realise how irrelevant you are!
I know it’s just a piece of card with some writing on it but it would be nice to know I’m in my family’s thoughts at this time of year. I regret buying her anything now as I’m struggling enough as it is.

I’m still bitter that despite my son getting the laptop he asked for (very politely and his letter to Santa was “or” between request rather than “and” plus he asked for certain things for his sisters he’s a really lovely little boy) the only gift he tells anyone he got is the sodding £1.50 yo-yo 😂

Last year my husband didn't get me anything. Not even a token gift for the children to give to me. He could see I was upset, I don't expect hundreds of pounds spent on me but some socks or pyjamas would have been better than nothing just to show I've been thought about and maybe some appreciation. I do EVERYTHING. He only has to help put the presents out on Christmas eve.
All the presents have been bought and wrapped, all the food shopped for. This year I bought myself some Ferrero rocher and one of those big dressing gown jumper things that the kids enjoyed wrapping so they can put it under the tree and give to me.
I saw him looking at Love Honey last week. I swear, if he gets me something from there, which would really be for him, I will stuff him like a turkey and kill him.
Is it too much to ask to get a thoughtful present? 😕

My friend had hinted all Dec what my child would want. I always said oh don’t bother ( as didn’t want to get into buying each other) she has 3 children & spends £800+ on each of them. They are very spoilt with everything they do. I didn’t want to spend my hard earned money on them & it go in a pile.

Anyway she’s asked & asked what my child wants in the end I said pj’s would be great.
Xmas eve 7pm no sign of her or the gift, I sent my husband round to drop her 3 children the gifts ( I spent £10 each) and get her & hubby a bottle of wine, chocs.

We never got a gift back- why pester and make out you are buying for us ?

Anyway Xmas day came, and Boxing Day... no text to say thank you. I text today and said did they like their gifts & you like your wine? Reply - sorry we got so much we are still working our way through everything. Kids haven’t finished opening yet 😤

I got a new mum gift set from my mil, bearing in mind my children are much older now like 21,14. So the stretch mark oil and new mum items will come in so useful 😂

No complaints about my gifts. But we always spend quite a bit of money on others gifts and put some thought into them and it is very irritating when it isn't appreciated.

We have a niece (8) and nephew (7). We got the niece some DIY earrings design kit which she loved, a book, a mini sewing machine as she loves crafts and a horseriding Barbie as she enjoys horseriding. Well, she opened the Barbie, scoffed at it and says she already has too many. Then she didn't seem impressed with the sewing machine. Basically threw it aside. She is a spoilt brat.

On the other hand, our nephew loved his gifts and we also got him one of those drawing boxes (pens, paints, crayons etc) as he is very artsy. Well, when he opened that, the niece almost threw a tantrum because she wanted one... She doesn't even draw. lol.

Said to my husband that less is more. Next yr we will buy them less and adopt a family instead and fulfill their wish list. I would rather spend money on those who appreciate it. The parents don't even tell them to say thank you.
