Some People!

Chatty Member
So if Santa is reading this we don't want to find any of the following in our stocking....

Dove sets
Baylis & Harding sets
Molton Brown
Lynx

anything else?
For me it's the classic Gift Set Of Items To Do With Something They Think You're Into.

Catch me doing basic garden upkeep once - that's me getting gift sets of gardening gloves, "gardeners soap", flimsy little trowels, seeds that'll never germinate and some kind of impractical plant labels for the next 10 years.

Enjoy the work of a public figure? Brace yourself for annuals, unauthorised biographies, fuckin... socks with them on it, whatever old toot with the person you like on it. I'm not a massive fan or 14 years old, let me have a passing admiration for a singer in peace!

Like a nice spicy sauce sometimes? Get ready to receive gift sets of 10 wee bottles of cheap sub-par hot sauce with hilarious stickers/ names for the rest of eternity.

Worst is saying thank you for a gift once and then receiving it in various forms forever after - my brother has been giving me stuff from one of the Body Shop ranges for like a decade now and I never get through it. I've never bought it for myself or expressed an interest in it. Then other people see you have it or heard you like it and you get more!

MIL saw me have some popcorn once and then gave me a microwave popcorn burner maker, 10 jars of popcorn flavourings, and literally 20kg of popcorn kernels. If I'd eaten popcorn every day it would have taken me 5 years to get through it all. Absolute madness.

If you play an instrument, play a sport, or have a hobby of any sort you'll definitely be gifted a bunch of tacky useless crap to do with that. I'd definitely rather be gifted something mundane & useful and perhaps of a higher quality than I'd have bought for myself than a gift set of poor quality novelty items.

When father's day comes and the shops are full of golf toot, beer drinking nonsense, football crap, etc I feel for the men who then have to feign interest in these gifts, maybe even use them out of obligation for a bit, then dispose of them.
Someone who is actually into golf definitely doesn't need a little set of golf-related stuff from Home Bargains.

In conclusion: save your money and don't give me a damn thing - I'm obviously an ungrateful ole miserybollocks who doesn't deserve it 😂

I have posted many times on tattle about my HATRED for dove sets. I hate them. They're boring. They're a clear indication of "I dont know you at all but I had to get you a gift". I just detest them so much. Also i am allergic to nuts. This is all pertinent information.
Now, my brother in law... who I have known for over 5 years. Last year got me a FUCKING PISTACHIO DOVE SET!! I wanted to throw it at him!!!
I get an Impulse set every year from my partners mum. Haven’t used the stuff since I was a teenager 😅

I had an ex friend who only ever bought me one nice and thoughtful gift which I still have. Most the time I got a random assortment of things that I’m pretty sure were regifted including a partially used bath bomb 😆 that she tried to claim must have “disintegrated in the post” but the other half was not in the box.

I caught her out once as she gave me a purse which I thought was weird as she’d given me a one the year before that (it was truly ugly: made up of laminated pieces of newspaper weaved together with a zip that didn’t close so also pointless).

The second purse was a really old fashioned looking thing and had a strange smell - musty but floral like it had been kept in the back of a wardrobe and then febreezed! When I unzipped it there was a Christmas tag inside saying “Merry Christmas (her name) got you this as you said you liked mine love Nanny (her maiden name) xxx” and then in brackets (Christmas 1994). Imagine regifting someone a present from your dead Nan that was (at this point) over 20 years old!

That wasn’t the reason we are no longer friends but I am sure you can see why we might not be given behaviour like that.

Guys, you need to go quid pro quo with these men. No presents for them if you don’t get any. I wouldn’t be having sex with them any time soon, but that’s just me. What selfish arseholes.

One of my friends parents don’t buy their daughter a Christmas present, instead they pay her and her boyfriends rent for the month and do their food shop

i love the idea

I really loved my presents from my mum and I always always put the most effort into my mums, I bought her gazelles (he favourite trainers - personally hate them haha), 2 benefit sets, some gorgeous earrings from the dogs lol, a few jumpers and a shaket , things she uses throughout the year that I know she stresses over affording and a few other bits like pjs, Lindt slippers etc... I feel pressured to make more effort as I have two spiteful brothers who buy their girffriends, no joke, Apple watches, designer shoes, stuff from flannels etc and get my mum gets absolutely nothing or a Baylis and Harding set from tesco. I watch her cry on the lead up to Christmas spending her wages on all their kids and then her actual sons 💔I don’t usually gift with my older brother but this year I thought i would, I bought him a £50 bottle of aftershave and he bought me and my mother a Baylis and Harding little girl gift set covered in llamas 🙃. He always says he doesn’t know what to get EVERY YEAR so he’ll just get this for Christmas then something ‘proper’ for her bday in January 2nd (he never ever gets her anything, not even a card) My other brother didn’t even send my mum a Merry Christmas until 3pm 😡 (she messaged him at 7am lol).

It really really
Bothers me because she is very nearly 60 and won’t be here forever and I feel like they already act like she isn’t.

There’s a theme to a lot of these, if people are down right ungrateful or completely fail to reciprocate then stop buying them presents!!!!!

I once splurged and bought my best friend an expensive (for me at the time!) bracelet. She never wore it and one day when we were at her house getting ready I noticed it in her jewellery box. I said something like “ nice bracelet “ and she said “ oh that, it’s horrible, I never wear it, must have been a gift from someone as I wouldn’t ever buy something like that”. I was gutted.

Last year my best friend had a baby. Her birthday is also around Christmas. So I got her lots of stuff, including the moses basket for the baby, baby outfits, shawl, hats etc. For her I got her a Jo Malone candle, silk scarf, earrings and a bottle if fizz. What did she get me..? Nothing. For my birthday in August. Not even a card. So this year I sent cards and that is it.

Some people are takers in life. Sadly the older I get the more apparent that is.

A neighbour gave me a box of Lindor chocolates the other day, I'm not mad about them so I passed them on to another neighbour, then today I was given another box of Lindor by a different neighbour again 😄
I reckon it's the same box doing the rounds 😅

Do the no gift partners still expect something for their birthday, Christmas and Father’s Day?

Have the lack of gifts never been brought up and talked about? Sorry if I sound harsh, but why have they been allowed to get away with it if it’s causing hurt?

It’s not about the price but the lack of thought. The underlying message that you are not important enough to even get cheap petrol station flowers or Poundland chocs? You are the mother of his kids. You deserve so much better.

My nana (old but was all there with her lemon drops at the time) bought my young child (2-3yr old at the time) a pink little miss naughty dressing gown ... a tatty teddy lunch bag and a frilly cardigan. That child is a boy 🤨 she bought me and my mum a reed diffuser each

One year my dad came round and dropped me a xmas card off with £150 inside, I was about 14/15. I only became aware of this AFTER my mother took the card off my dad, looted it and went and got me some cheap horrible carpet in my box bedroom which couldnt have cost more then £100. She rang me up giddy about it and to let me know that she had 'put halves so that's all you've got for Christmas'. Baring in mind we moved out a few months later. She did it to be nasty and steal some of my Christmas money. She knew I was gonna be devastated. Bitch.

My mum bless her tries, but last year she gave me a handbag she bought for herself and decided she didn't want, I didn't either and she told me I could sell it (it was designer) which I did and she asked for the money back. 😂
