I tried to not buy anything for one my brothers and his 4 kids after last year but caved last minute and got them all stuff. Bought my other brother and his kid and dogs quite a lots of stuff . I’m vulnerable so alone this Christmas. They picked it up from outside my door, didn’t say thank you or anything and honestly presents mean nothing but the fact they didn’t even give me a card from my nieces and nephews broke me. As soon as I shut the door I burst into tears 😭. Am I just weird or greedy wishing for a card?

Anyway I hope you all have a gorgeous Christmas♥
It’s not much but you have us. I didn’t even get a card off my parents and then my mum has the cheek to say my son hasn’t given her a card. Sorry mum, in the middle of grieving my grandpa, my daughter and moving house. Cut me some slack!

Adults moaning about gifts is just wrong 😂
Buy what you need yourself,
give nothing if you expect something in return.
Listen if you’re jealous about my echo falls gift set, just say

You’re not weird for wishing for a card. They sound incredibly rude. I wouldn’t bother with them next year and just spend the money on yourself.

Hi all,
Newbie here. Loving the forum.....
I'm alone this Xmas, was dumped by ex 5 weeks ago by a text after I dared bring up something he did which upset me.
Anyhoo, we've stayed speaking, albeit very sporadically. We arranged to swap gifts as they were already bought.
I bought him very expensive, very personal beautiful gifts, made him up a lovely food hamper also.
So, opened my gifts today. They're all from one little shop, nice enough items, soap, candle, socks etc. Nothing of any expense (he earns 5 times what I earn).. I'm not bothered about the cost, but the fact that he's done it all in one shop. He hasn't even bought me only two items in the shop I'd pointed out to him. I know I sound so ungrateful, but why do i take so much care, love, time & thought for others when I don't get it back? Serious issues I think I have. He's been trying to chat and said he's messed up yada yada.... But I'm just empty now.
I know he's done a supermarket like sweep in the little shop and it's hurtful.
Moan over. He's immature, egotistical when he can't even discuss issies but blows up or shuts down in a passive aggressive manner.
I have to make this a final lesson. Sorry for the whinge, 😂

Why didn’t you just return all of his presents when he dumped you? duck that, like I’m going to give him thoughtful gifts AFTER we’ve broken up. Refund please! 🤣

Seriously though, he did you a favour it seems! ❤

Yes, I agree & I returned as many as I could, but the most expensive couldn't be as I'd had them made up and were out of the return period. I tend to buy from September as I can't afford a big lumper. Lessons learned. Very hard lessons.

This book quote was like an Oprah a ha moment for me the very first time I heard it.

"We accept the love we think we deserve".

So many people settle for crumbs and the bare minimum in relationships, because they can't see that they deserve more. I've been there too and have put up with a lot until a moment in you says "enough is enough".

The gifts might have been expensive but consider the price worth every penny for no more time wasted with your ex.

Yeah, it's definitely a rough situation.

I'm friends with both halves of a couple who broke up a few weeks ago (his decision). She'd already bought some of his Christmas gifts (that were specific to him) while he hadn't started his shopping yet. So he did offer to get her something still. She apparently politely told him not to worry about it so being a very literal thinker, he didn't... She was fizzing today that he'd taken her gifts and not bothered 🙈

My mum bought me a lot of expensive skin care. I do like skin products but I have sensitive skin so can only use certain products 😔

Absolutely. Totally agree & I'm aware of my issues, it's a continual fight against myself for being 'a good person' instead of saying "F&*" K you " I still have guilt over. The balance is off I think.
Just this last bit of over giving I need to sort.

Who gets to decide if we’re a ‘good person’ anyway? You are how you treat people, including yourself I say!

The worst gift I received from this year was from my man. Charlie Red gift set. That cheap fragrance. I said is it a joke? He said I need to humble myself (he laughed about it) also said that he’s taking me out tomorrow to get me gifts. I think he’s wanting to take me Boxing Day sales. I’m literally sat upstairs in the dark and not spoken to him.

Not a Christmas present Moan - the opposite!

know it’s the thought that counts etc etc.
but someone who I usually exchange cheap little gifts with has unexpectedly bought me something expensive and put £50 in a card for me! I have no idea why the sudden change in budget but I feel terrible - my present to her was the usual little token gift. I know she won’t think anything of it, I’m sure, but I felt bad when I opened it!

not like I’ve had a particularly bad year or anything so not sure why!

I know it’s a nice problem to have 😬 just don’t know what to do about next year now either 🤯

The usual perfume etc which I always find a odd gift unless the recipient has specifically said they like that fragrance etc, what I find a pleasant smell someone else might not

Did receive a gift this year I feel is straight from Aldi middle aisle- a inflatable jacuzzi

🥴
