Well, after saying I wouldn't, I have a load of washing on. My husband had already stuck the dishwasher on so I figured we're doomed anyhow. Plus I always followed the "rule" & my luck has been rit & nobody has died. Plus having a kiddo that may be coming down with gastro I can't afford to get even more behind on laundry than I already am 😬

All the talk on this thread about not washing/cleaning on new years day has scared me into vacuuming at 10pm last night and not washing my greasy hair until tomorrow (it's been in a bun pretty consistently since boxing day, so I didn't realise just how gross it had gotten! 🤣) I'm making an executive decision and saying dry shampoo doesn't count as washing 😅
I thought it was such a silly superstition when I read it on here, never heard of it!
Also me- did 3 loads of washing yesterday so I don’t have to do it today 🤣

I follow the no washing clothes on NY day and came in and my husband has a clothes washing on 😬 so surely that bad luck will go to him and not me right?!
Same, not even sure there was a full wash as I cleaned like a demon yesterday to make sure their wasn’t anything

I'm back on the 3rd but already wishing I wasn't! I've not worked a full week since early Dec, and I've really enjoyed it.

Our decs are still up, I'll take them down on Sat morning and have a good clean.

We're having Beef Wellington later (my Christmas Eve Aldi bargain) as part of Christmas dinner part 2. Which reminds me, I better go make a start shortly as we're meant to be eating at 6.30.

We are also a “wash on New Years Day and wash a loved one away” family…although we have always done no washing as in laundry, not other types of washing such as your hair or a shower or your kitchen sink 😅
I’m 30 and never heard of that saying 🤣 I did do 1 load of washing away, so if the old saying works hopefully it washes the mother in law away!!

I just told my daughter I was going for a shower and she told me it was bad luck. Asked where she’d heard this and she said the Chinese on TikTok 🤣

I love how we have a divide in the 'don't wash Christmas/New Years day' there's the 'omg I haven't even washed my hair or cleaned up' and then theres the 'Well I've done two loads of washing':ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It was a dry day , we weren't wasting a chance to hang the washing out

As I had the worst year of my life in 2023, I didn’t do any washing today although the bin is full! Will crack on with it tomorrow 😊

Does anyone keep any type of fairy lights up after Christmas? 🎅🏼
I'm starting to want to take mine down but my living room always feels so bald and bare with no twinkly lights!
May buy a new plant and wrap lights around that
I got some from Amazon 2 years ago that change colour so I have multi colour for Christmas, orange, yellow and purple for Halloween and yellow for general winter. It started off as an energy saving thing but I quite like having them up around the lounge on yellow when it's depressing and wintry in Jan/Feb.

Growing up my family always left decorations up until twelfth night and that's what we do so they will be all coming down on Friday. Normally I'm really sad and reluctant to take them down but this year I am starting to think shall I take down a couple of the smaller bits down earlier so it isn't as big a job. I do a Christmas village on the shelves each year and it always takes ages to put all the ceramic houses carefully away. I do tend to leave Christmas cards up the rest of January which my hubby doesn't like but in my eyes their cards not decorations. His mother does decs down and clean for New Year's day and he's grown up like that.
