I made my Mum a stocking last year as she always does one for us, so I’m carrying on the tradition this year. I’ve got her a couple of presents (headphones and a frame she wanted) then I’m adding her favourite sweets, mini bottle of Prosecco and a little keepsake bear thing, just little things she’ll like because she always made us a stocking (and still doesDoes anyone else struggle buying for their parents?
I feel like no matter what I get my parents it will never be enough, and they don't like thay typical things like gardening, things with mum and dad on, and such. So I really struggle to get them anything each year I just get them a bottle of gin which I have no idea about as I don't drink so don't even know if they drink it.
)my mum has a pair of bells, basically 2 bits of an egg box covered in shiny paper and threaded with wool that go on the tree every year. My brother made them in the early 80’s when he was about 5/6, sadly he died 20 years ago. So take your themed Christmas that is killing the planet and give me good old family memories and a mid-matched tree any day.G

I saw a TikTok the other day that said with the new way/trend of doing themes and different decs every year, kids are losing that special nostalgia of seeing the same decorations every year that once you’re an adult help to signify Christmas…and it really hit me in the feels

I always do my mum a stocking! She stays at ours Christmas eve night each year so didn't want her feeling left out, she still does me a stocking and I'm 43! All of this talk of people getting stockings past the age of 18 is making me sad 
We do get a "table present" now, which we open before the starter is served. Idk if table presents are an actual thing or just another questionable Christmas rule made up by my mum (they weren't always a thing for us, I think she started doing them in the early 2000's)
They're usually just something small (around £5), but one year, we all thought the other one was getting the table present for our mum (she gets everyone else's) and so no one actually ended up getting a table present for her - which she has never let us forget
so now we have a shared google doc with who is getting the present for what year & make sure to spend at least £10 so that she has The Best™️ table present of the table hahaha

I think it's definitely becoming more popular. l have a couple of friends who do a family secret santa and will exchange those gifts during Christmas dinner

I kind of do a table present too. It’s a Christmas themed box from The Works - only small. I fill it with mini chocolates like coins, Father Christmas's, sprouts, Malteser reindeer etc and Lindt reindeer or teddy on top. Something that you wouldn't necessarily give as a main gift but something like an everyday luxury if that makes sense lol, like a jar of hot chocolate & some marshmallows, or a small candle, some handcream, syrups to go in coffee, ect.
We do a cheap gift, under £5, I've give annuals to the children or a book and I tend to get my husband a football or gardening magazine as he loves one for Christmas. I don't tend to go overboard as its just an extra inexpensive gift.
I have spent all day doing the Jane's Patisserie Christmas cake rather than the usual one I make where I virtually chuck everything in and mix. It was very liquidy and poured into the tin but it came out of the oven resembling a cake, thank God 
Says you have to feed it. It's already been fed 2 tablespoons worth of booze on its exit from the oven and it requires regular top ups according to the recipe. Can't see my bottle of booze lasting long at this rate.
