might be an idea to set up a support/general chat thread in December for those who will be alone during the most wonderful time of year 😐
It’s such a hard one for so many.

Totally agree, I’ve been on many “gossip” type forums and sites and you’re right, tattle is a very different atmosphere, it’s been a great help to many this year I think 🙂
This a lovely idea 💖

I can't wait to put the tree up this year and watch some mindless, cosy, fun Christmas films. I mean, I feel that way every year but this year I could go for November 1st.

Of course having pragmatic moderators certainly helps grease the wheels.

I have a Santa outfit at the ready. So come Christmas Eve night, I will make a point of coming down my partner's chimney and fill her stockings with nice little treats :p

At least this year you can buy a large tin of Quality Street instead of the pathetic tiny plastic tubs which seem to get smaller every year.

I've just finished a small tub of Sainbury's own chocolate treats, not bad at all. Might get some for the December Holidays.

Had a bad experience with a Quality Street a couple of years ago. I think it was the toffee, pulled one of my fillings out, and I was in agony for a couple of days.

Stick to Heroes or Celebrations now (y)

Err yes, those toffee's are lethal, I would wager it was the "Penny toffee", I leave those for my Mother, she loves a toffee.

My dad used to have a quality treat special...i.e. a toffee penny and a toffee finger in the mouth at the same time

My teeth hurt at the memory haha

Just done an order on The White Company for some gifts (all my family love their home sets with the candle, reed diffuser and room spray). I usually get them on Black Friday but for the sake of a few pound I just wanted to get it over and done with. A bit stressed that with everyone having to shop online delivery times will be much longer so decided not to hold off.

Also ordered a box of 52 date ideas as part of my boyfriends present from notonthehighstreet. It’s nice to try and support small businesses (could have made my own much cheaper but definitely wouldn’t have been as nice😂). Think I might just do him a big hamper with lots of little things as I’m really struggling to think of a “main” present.

My mum wants a foot spa so my brother has bought that and I’ve ordered her a pedicure set to go with it. I’m also going to her her a personalised phone case with a picture of my brother and I when we were young on it. She used to have one that she LOVED.. as in would literally show it to everyone.. but once she got a new phone it didn’t fit so about to look to replace that.

Trying to split all my shopping between last pay day, this month and next month!!

I’m going to prepare myself for a few hours in the shops next week to try and get a few things bought. I’ve not been to my local city for months (I used to go into work there twice a week!) and so I’m feeling excited about it.

I’m hoping if I go on my own I can have a good spree and get a few bits done.

The reality is I’ll probably be sweating like duck in a mask, it’ll rain and so my Primark paper bagged goodies will be spilling out all over the high street and I’ll be cursing anyone not keeping 2m from me.

Good times!
Quoting myself to show what I posted on Saturday...

I’ve had such a good day! The rain stopped, I drove the usual journey that I’d make to the car park I use for work (not done since mid March as WFH now). I was in such a good mood, I obviously just needed a bit of normality back. Singing along to the radio.

Parked up, plenty of space. Straight to Primark, probably about 15 in the queue in front of me. Waited 2 mins, then straight in! It was busy but not chaotic, I managed to get loads of stuff. Queued for the till but that was okay. Two big bags ready to fall apart and get rained on... but that didn’t happen! The sun stayed out, my bags stayed intact despite me making a few more shop runs and adding to the bags.

New Look have 25% in store at the moment. Result. Went into Lush, bought four bubble bars for my 8yo for Christmas. Wouldn’t usually get that many but I’m stocking up seeing as though it’ll be another few months before I’m likely to be back there again.

Back to car, dropped bags off ready for round 2. A few more shops, no queuing, got some good deals. Drove home, via Aldi and had another carpool karaoke for one. Bought myself a festive sandwich from Aldi... may have even treated myself to the Prosecco advent calendar too.

Came home, admired my purchases. Took photos to show friends (anyone else do this?!) Managed to get it all upstairs and chuck a blanket over it before the school run 😂

I’ve had such a good day in my own company! I sound like a complete saddo, but this is what I needed. I feel like I’m in such a happy mood for the first time in a few weeks, simply because I got up and got on with things. No messing around, get out and get stuff done 😂

Anyone else contemplating a last min shop before lockdown #2, I urge you to do so! Hopefully it will also lift others people’s moods too ♥

I posted a little while back on this thread that I was dreading this Christmas and the past few have been pretty sad and gloomy, each one seemed to get progressively worse and I thought my Christmas spirit was well and truly gone.

But I think it’s edging back. Like nbt above I’m just feeling a bit happier today. I kind of feel awful saying that in the current climate but I think it’s the weeks of low expectations and not looking forward to it that have kind of helped me go sod it im going to try and enjoy it. Nothing extravagant but I’m going to spend December watching Christmas films and eating a lot of chocolate and just trying to be cosy and content as much is possible.

I think I’m looking forward to it because my brother is coming to spend it with us. We lost both out parents in the past 2 years and we’ve not spent Xmas together since we were teenagers. My brother broke up with his girlfriend this year and doesnt have anywhere else he could really go. He thought he would be in the way spending it us with me and my husband & kept saying no you don’t really want me there, but I really do. And now he’s agreed and my heart feels warm. It feels really special to think of us spending a Christmas Day together.

I’ve had a really great idea today too. I’m going to get me, my husband and my brother matching Christmas pyjamas. They’re both going to hate it and that makes me happy 🤣🤣 cant wait to see their faces and hope we all laugh! 🤣

I know what you mean about “feeling awful” saying that. I posted in my happiness and then instantly worried that I’d upset others if they weren’t having a good day. But you know what, everyone has ups and downs. And there really aren’t too many ups at the moment so I think if you’ve had a good day or are looking forward to something, definitely share it. It’s uplifting hearing other people’s nice stories and without getting too soppy, gives you a nice warm feeling ☺

I think your Christmas idea sounds lovely and I am LIVING for things like matching PJs 🥰 is there anything else you could do too that’d take you back to your childhood? Watching a certain film or doing some of your old traditions?

I think we have to take our moments where we can, I know I’ll have some more downs between then and now and Christmas Day might still be sad, there’s been a lot of lovely things on this thread so I hope it’s giving people some warmth, even when I felt really down and miserable at the thought of Christmas I still liked reading here. But I know this year will be very painful for so many 😔

Well I know we will watch Santa Claus the Movie and Home Alone. My brother is a big builder, tattoos all over him, likes his football and hated every moment of the spa day his ex girlfriend dragged him on but his little secret is that those are his favourite films and he watches them all year through 😄 not even joking! I’m going to make him a photo album of all the pictures Ive managed to find from when we were kids and who knows maybe we will make a new tradition ☺ We had years of being estranged due to things growing up and our parents divorce and there was a time we couldn’t be in a room without an argument breaking out so it is really special and also quite unbelievable that we can spend Christmas together. It’s a Christmas miracle 💫✨xxx

I've been eyeing those Sainsbury's own ones up. Worth a try?x

This is my first Christmas without my children. (Ex left us a few years ago) Every time I think about it I cry. I’m spending it alone.
If anyone else is in a similar position or has had an Christmas without theirs please get in touch. I’m struggling to get by and could use all the coping mechanisms on offer.
I know lots of people have much worse stuff going on so please don’t think I am ungrateful with life. I’m just constantly sad.

I’m really sorry to read that it makes me feel so sad for you. I know that it will be really painful for you this year. Can you try to plan in some nice things you can do for yourself on Christmas Day? Something you don’t usually get the time to do. I realise my response is probably a bit inadequate to what you’re facing but I didn’t want to read and not reply. I hope some other people can give you some better ideas and support 😘
