We’ve decided to just bite the bullet and book flights home for Christmas and just hope for the best!

Fingers crossed they don’t put either country back into a national lockdown 😬

Ordered my first presents, still got lots to go mind. Anyone got any good Christmas dessert recommendations? (not xmas pud we'll have that and another one) I'm thinking a fancy trifle as I've just got a nice bowl I want to use lol

We always do a de constructed pavlova! So people can add as much toppings/cream as they like.

I'm going to do a pavlova wreath! Think I might try making some linzer cookies too.

Last year was the worst Christmas of my life, my mum died a few months before and we made this big effort and plans to try and make it as nice as possible but ended up sitting around feeling totally miserable. It was so horrible that I feel like it’s put me off Christmas forever now. We said after that we would go abroad this year but with Covid we’re not sure about that now. I normally get so excited about Christmas, I just heard a Christmas song on Instagram and I feel fed up now!
I will refrain from sprinkling anymore festive sparkle on this thread...sorry! 😬
bit late to comment on this, and apologies if someone else has provided similar words, but if it helps any, I lost my dad very unexpectedly two weeks before Christmas 6 years ago.
That first Christmas was horrific. I gave all the presents I’d bought, wrapped and got so excited about for him (one of them was rugby tickets for us both to go to a game as he loved the rugby and it was “our thing”) to my brother. Cried as he opened them as I just kept thinking how they were meant for him and how horrible this whole situation was. We all tried to make it the best day as much as possible, but in reality it sucked. The worst Christmas of my life. Truthfully, the next couple of Christmas weren’t much better either.
However, fast forward 6 years, and I get excited about Christmas again. Granted, there is always a painful degree of sadness that he isn’t here, and the day itself feels so different now. I’ll be shopping and think “oh, that’s a great present for dad...” and then remember. But you really do eventually adjust and learn to enjoy it again and find some Christmas spirit. For now though, allow yourself to not like Christmas and have no festive cheer or spirit. I genuinely think my bah humbug phase helped me process it all/deal with it a little. Hopefully you’ll find your cheer/spirit in time again too 🙂

Thank you, I’m so sorry for your loss, to lose your dad that close to Christmas must have made what is already so painful an awful lot worse. I will take your advice and just let myself be, I’d already been getting stressed about how much I’m dreading it. I hope that I will get the Christmas spirit back again, maybe I’ll even surprise myself this year. I wish you and your family a very happy and healthy Christmas 😘xx

I can’t help that when I see some of your posts I think Rishi has actually written them. Had a little giggle at Rishi quietly contemplating a Percy Pigs advent calendar this year, pandemic paperwork pushed to one side while he focuses on this pressing issue 😄
