Wow thats really insensitive. As much as I am happily child free, what about all the people trying to conceive and struggling?!Yikes... has anyone seen this tweet by Hallmark? What a stupid and insensitive thing to say.
I thought the same thing.Wow thats really insensitive. As much as I am happily child free, what about all the people trying to conceive and struggling?!
I feel really bad for my mum when I see things like that. To me she really is the best mum in the world, but it's like saying she's not because sure hasn't got a grandchild from me!Yikes... has anyone seen this tweet by Hallmark? What a stupid and insensitive thing to say.
Hahahaha, mine is the same. Was a good mother to me but couldn't stand other children. I would be the same if I had a baby.My mum hates kids! I sometimes wonder how she even managed to give birth to me and my sibling. Honestly, she’s not maternal at all. Wonder if that’s why the way I am...![]()

I think out of everything in life children are the one thing not to be compromised on. If you really don’t want them, then that should be that.Oh right..I suppose I've never had this deep rooted desire so I wouldn't really know what it's like. But what if you give up the love of your life for a difference on wanting children? For example if I found the absolute love of my life, soulmate, and he was desperate for kids then I might compromise and have children. I have no desire to but I wouldn't want to deny my absolute love.
I always say that if my OH decided he all of a sudden wants kids, then its not a reason for me to have kids, its a reason for me to not be with him. He is free to have as many as he likes, just not with me.I think out of everything in life children are the one thing not to be compromised on. So many relationships break down for unforeseen reasons, especially when you throw kids into the mix which adds so much pressure. It would likely build resentment also. Then you could end up looking after a child on your own you didn’t really want.
Much better to be upfront IMO, then no one gets hurt. Plus - your soulmate would be on the same page as you with these things.
I completely understand your point. I agree with you but from a different perspective.Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think Mother's Day and Father's Day should be scrapped. They are only a way for greeting cards companies to earn money. Parents choose to have kids and shouldn't have to have presents as a reward. It is also bleeping triggering for people who have lost parents. I do not get on with my parents and always feel guilted into buying a card/small gift. I don't want to and I don't want to thank them for being parents because they don't deserve any thanks. It just makes me angry and upset.
I can understand how you feel in a way as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is celebration with cards often saying Best Dad etc. My son is only 7 but has to by court agreement see his dad on Father’s Day, this is a man who let my son see him hurt me! To me he don’t deserve the title of dad!Unpopular opinion maybe, but I think Mother's Day and Father's Day should be scrapped. They are only a way for greeting cards companies to earn money. You're completely right about it getting worse every year. I do think this is for everything now, not just Mothers Day - I feel like social media must be to blame. Every life event needs to be plastered across your insta or FB and therefore must have a huge fuss made over it. I said on another thread, 10 years ago in the UK I feel like baby showers or gender reveal (?!) parties were not a thing and now tons of people have them. Yet another event you spend money on and make other people feel obligated to spend money on.I completely understand your point. I agree with you but from a different perspective.
As you say, nobody forced my parents into having kids, and why does having kids automatically mean that we have to have a great relationship. As it happens I love them dearly, but I don’t like being compelled into buying them a crappy card once a year, when I can show them any time how I feel about them. They know it and I know it.
Mother’s Day in particular, feels so contrived and it gets worse each year, with more of a fuss being made. Or so it seems.
Don’t get me started on baby showersYou're completely right about it getting worse every year. I do think this is for everything now, not just Mothers Day - I feel like social media must be to blame. Mothers/Fathers day just make me cringe, all the "best mum ever" cards make me so uncomfortable. People who have good relationships with their parents, like yourself, show it year round as you say. Whereas people with poor relationships feel strong armed into buying gifts and making gestures they don't want to.
In fairness, I do love seeing the new weird ways people come up with for the gender reveals. Like that one of the couple in the US who shot a gun at a box and it exploded a bunch of coloured powder. Just amazing haha. Whatever will they do next.Don’t get me started on baby showersand what’s with gender reveal parties ffs
How much more attention do they want?
ETA - I just had to double check which thread I’d posted this comment on!![]()
There was a story just the other day about a guy who was killed by a gender reveal cannon he was preparing for his own party. In fairness, I do love seeing the new weird ways people come up with for the gender reveals.
