I don't even particularly care for Florence but I'm glad to see her standing up for herself in the face of plain and simple bullshit! There is literally no substance behind Chidera's claims, she can keep shouting them repeatedly into the wind but it doesn't make her right.God I would love to read the legal opinions of the lawyers consulted. Just seen Florences response - i like the part where she's asked Chidera for evidence via the publishers and had nothing back? Surely Chidera wouldnt just not respond?? Or will Chidera post a screenshot of the publishers request and annotate it saying that a direct request for proof is intimidating and aggressive or something. I see a lot of people declare stuff as 'aggressive' language when im like um... thats just formal language that you use in professional communication when you're discussing a matter that might have legal implications... thats standard literally everywhere. Its meant to be like that.
I feel like (and I don’t know how much to read into it) she picked her timing well to put her foot down like this. If she had made a post like this even a few weeks ago when a lot of public opinion was favouring Chidera, it might not have been received as well, but given Chidera’s actions recently I think less and less people are inclined to side with her and slowly maybe all this will start to go away and soon enough Florence will be back to how she was. Definitely agree! When she put out her first statement loads of people were all over it like "omg how dare she put out this statement that was clearly written with the help of a PR specialist". Like? Would you rather she just blurted things out all over the internet like Chidera with absolutely no filter? Getting help with PR when you are a public figure is a normal thing to do (just like getting a lawyer is also a normal and reasonable thing to do when accused baselessly of plagiarism) and probably a damn sight more responsible than running your mouth everywhere and stirring the pot. Obviously sometimes slimy people try and PR their way out of things but that doesn't mean that anyone who hires a specialist is automatically in the wrong ygm.
Same thing with the "diversity reader" thing imo. No one writer can embody or have lived through all experiences so it makes sense to have a second opinion to make sure the work is inclusive. Would people rather read books that deliberately excluded them? It's such a standard practice, like, most if not all big firms now hire people or whole teams specifically devoted to EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) in recognition of the fact that people are so diverse and it's important to cater for as many experiences as possible in the name of accessibility and inclusivity.

Yes, agree so much. She also was very careful I think to ensure Chidera didn’t have a claim before she came out with a firm statement refuting the plagiarism accusations, which as you said, is what any sensible public figure should do!
I am interested to see if there will be a reaction from Chidera? or has she moved onto the skillshare thing now so she can amass some coinage this way? Because this is how i am perceiving this situation - that its about Chidera making money. Its not about reparations - if it was then she would be donating to BIPOC charities and to date i have seen no evidence of this happening ( this is not clear cut though tbh as it is not necessary for Chidera to prove she is making donations however given the circumstances it may go in her favour to do so given this is factor in her plagiarism claims).

Fully agree! I think Florence probably has some really supportive friends/ family/ team members around her bc she seems to have handled this really well and on a surface level at least seems to be coping pretty well, standing her ground and not getting angry or snitty.
And yeah I wonder what will come next from Chidera. I think if she thinks there's still money to be made from this situation, she'll keep going. Or maybe she'll stop bc it conflicts with her bubbly image from her Skillshare course, who knows.

how can she keep this going when FG has hit a nail in the coffin? There doesnt seem to be much to come back from going off what FG has posted? Chidera and her publisher had the opportunity to prove her work had been plagiarised and they have failed to provide proof? what else can she possibly say? The best thing to do is lick her wounds and move on? If she carries this on she is tapped.
I am so wondering if FG’s lawyers sent Chidera a cease and desist now that they’ve proven there’s no substance to her claims
From Chideras story. Second one is a repost from someone else but I included it because it’s like the tenth one I’ve seen where FG is accused of copying “the likeness” rather than actual intellectual property.
Chideras response AGAIN is to act like this has all been masterminded by FG rather than by her management team, the managements legal team, the publisher, the publishers legal team.
And from the pic of both books with post it notes, ooh biggie looks like both of you spoke about people pleasing, how dare anyone else mention it.
