I honestly don’t have a problem with her trying to establish boundaries at this point in her career, her delivery is just off. Harry styles fans know he doesn’t like to be approached/filmed in public and they respect that. There’s a difference between Harry and Chappell though and that’s gender, it’s like men are allowed to have boundaries even when famous and women aren’t because if you refuse a photo it’s ‘rude’ and your a diva. Hopefully she can change that for female artists but I just dont think her approach will and if anything it’s fuelling the fire.

I don’t agree with cancelling shows to perform at an awards show

Also, telling photographers on the red carpet to fuck off was an interesting move. I’ve seen various reasons being suggested on social media and apart from someone telling her to fuck off or heckling her, which I don’t think they were, I haven’t seen a reason that justified it.
She needs those people on her side, especially when she’s not got a good reputation currently as it is, without the press on side in that industry you’re going to make things a lot more difficult for yourself.

I cannot stand this woman. I am irrationally annoyed by the way she dresses and does her makeup, and she seems to have a real attitude problem. It’s like she is absolutely desperate to be “alternative” and “not like the other girls”. It feels like she has come at the wrong time, like she should have been around in the MySpace era

I had no idea she'd auditioned for America's got Talent. But she doesn't want to be famous?.Fame sucks right?.Lol.26 is actually pretty old for a popstar, most start out much younger. You'd think she'd be grateful she'd finally made it.

I don't normally post in this thread but I really want to scream my two cents in the void

She is always on high alert. She said she didn't see anone at breakfast. Yeah right. If you have security, what are the odds of you not knowing what your security is doing when you're having breakfast. And a security guard knows a threat when they see one. A kid isn't one

And instead of telling everybody that it must have all been one big misunderstanding, she couldn't squeek out an apology?

I think that this is so not the first time something like this has happened. She doesn't care about fans, either an adult or a kid. She only cares about herself. And because she only thinks about herself, being an allmighty superstar and all, she could never have imagined that a non celeb, a kid even, could have their own platform. Like Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman: big mistake, huge!

Cancelling her smaller level shows in favour of the VMAs seems like a poorly thought out choice. Especially since she's clearly already deeply uncomfortable with her current level of fame, and struggling to deal with it mentally.

The best thing to do would be not to alienate the fans who will still be there long after this really intense fame level has faded (I.e the ones who had tickets for the more intimate shows which were arranged before her new level of fame.)

Ultimately, the music industry is very fickle, and she won't always be flavour of the month (which will actually probably suit her, given how she's struggling with it.) She could still have a successful smaller scale yet reliable and steady long term career with a loyal fanbase comprised of the original fans who supported her long before she became flavour of the month and will continue to support her after.

That's less likely to happen, though, if she continues to cancel her preexisting commitments to them in favour of more flashy larger scale events. She's in danger of not ending up with a sustainable long term career by pissing off her genuine fans by treating them poorly in order to pander to those who have jumped on the bandwagon and will drop her like a shot once she's not the in thing anymore.

I really love her songs.

Theyre just fun to sing along too. They make me happy.

She reallllllly needs better management, pr, and like media lessons (for coping).

Maybe she should just embrace being rude and pushy at this point. Make that her brand. Be a ' bad bitch', and then not one can be disappointed when she acts as expected.

Even if this incident turns out to be bollocks, people will still believe it because it sounds to much like something she would do. So imo just be as rude as fuck and don't hide it anymore.

She said she was kicking off at a photographer who pissed her off at the Grammys.

The Grammys were 5th Feb. She did this in late October. She's held onto this for 8 frigging months?!

What really confuses me is that she actively seeks fame but then complains about the things that come with it

She’s also now clarified that the rude people she encounters aren’t actually fans - yet she’s still saying the same thing over and over again and expecting what to happen? A fan might listen and respect her but someone who just wants to make some money from autographed things or pictures or is a stalker probably won’t listen

So she’s pushing parts of her fans away with these takes which are increasingly getting tone deaf and expecting what to happen?

Girl, invest in some security

She does my nut in. Her ego is unmatched and her songs aren't good enough to counter that kind of ick.

I don't think anyone thinks she should suck up genuine mistreatment, but she behaves very much like an ungrateful brat who's biting the hand that feeds her tbh. She has a problem with EVERYTHING, it must be exhausting. She wants the celebrity with none of the hardship that comes with it, that's not how jobs work, any jobs.

why is the narrative suddenly that they are poor victims just trying to do a job!?? 🤣🤣
Because some are and have a civil relationship with celebrities? In the context (because that matters) of Chappell Roan's situation, the photographer wasn't acting like some stalker. It's a bit silly to compare what happened to Britney Spears and Paparazzi of the 2000s. He was at a public event, with other fans and photographers. If she doesn't like the idea of that, then she shouldn't turn up to red carpets.

And he wasn't even talking to her when he said "shut the fuck up" at the Grammys. I'd support her "trying to make a change" if the situation was actually gross. But she simply decided to pick a childish fight with someone who didn't have bad intentions in the first place.

Chappell could have easily won on PR here - invite the kid backstage, take a picture, ta da. She failed once again.
And her fans at this point mostly baby her when it comes to this

I can’t help but think of the the one security guard at the Eras tour that Swift had to stop from being rude to a fan for no reason and the next day signs about being nice appeared everywhere as a reminder to security at the events. Like… whatever your opinion of Swift is the PR play around these things is so easy

You see Taylor Swift snapped out and about and she manages to not make an arse of herself. Also, part of walking down the red carpet is to be photographed. It’s not like someone is there with a long angle lens snapping her in her garden.

Her fans are desperate to think she's a good person who shares whatever their ideals happen to be so twist anything she does to fit.

She was even at the same hotel, one DM and she could have met the kid and smoothed everything over. Would have taken 5 minutes of her time which even she could grin and bear.
