I think the whole thing just reflects poorly on Chappel’s PR 🤷‍♀️ Plenty of her fans admit that she’s not a likeable person at all if you look at more discussions around it
Yeah, I think people might have been less inclined to automatically believe it if she didn't already have a reputation for being a bit aggro.

Not wanting to be pestered by weird fans is fair enough, but she made an event for Olivia Rodrigo about herself by screaming abuse at a photographer who wasn't even speaking to her (and he wasn't a pap following her he was a photographer for a red carpet she was willingly posing on), she's had her team demand things for free from small creators, she's lied about her background....

It all adds up.

I like her music, and can understand her wanting boundaries when it comes to her fans, but i think she came across quite rude, and like a diva with that video she did addressing it.
Said it elsewhere but she’s fighting a losing fight with this boundaries stuff. Yeah it’s not great that the career comes with sacrifices to your personal life, and it must really suck to get big so quickly as there’s no “prep” stage for her and everyone close to her, but this sort of sacrifice unfortunately comes with all those perks and money you get from the job. If it was as easy as saying “please don’t do this” the problem would already be fixed

She needs to stop lashing out at everyone and find a good PR person or team and get some therapy or other guidance on how to deal with this

Though honestly the whole thing is adding to more parasocial dynamics between her and her fans because now the answer to a lot of criticism is “she doesn’t owe anyone anything” and general sort of baby-ing

I noticed so many people are coming to her defence saying it was her management's decision and not to blame her etc.
I'm sorry but no one watches the VMAs anymore, she's already huge so she doesn't need to publicity. I'm guessing people who had tickets to the show were probably fans for a while as well.

It's just not a good look

Between this and her comments about boundaries she seems to be developing a bit of an ego. I know people need to not cross the line and think celebs are their besties but if you’re in the public eye, you need to develop a way to cope better.

I think part of the issue with her, is that she has been marketed as something she isn't. She was pushed as if she was some highly intelligent and political thinking character. She wasn't being rude, she was setting boundaries etc etc.

( also there was a lot of claims of her doing drag/being inspired by drag. I find it suspicious that that there doesn't seem to be any proof of her doing this pre career)

When she speaks on any particular issue, she is no more informed than the average person in the street.

She writes some good bops and is a great performer, but her image is causing massive issues and turning people against her.

She keeps kicking off at people recognising her in public, but the majority of the time she was at an event where photographers are expected or she was out and about but dressed in a very recognisable way. In one of the videos I saw, she had a ridiculous looking headscarf on like a 1950s film star wears in a convertible, so of course it drew attention to her.

When Gaga wants photos she goes about in an outrageous outfit. If she went out in jeans and with her hair in a messy bun, no one would notice her. She had even said that if people have a picture of her, it is because she wanted to be seen.
There's self absorbed irritating theatre kids in every high school in America, she got lucky, but if she continues like this she'll just be one of those 'whatever happened to?' stories in a few years.

She's just responded to the story - to me it basically sounds like "I wasn't aware of what my/not my (?) security was doing and they must have just assumed you were doing something wrong when you weren't"

Which seems like a bit of a non-response to me/trying to deflect any responsibility. Security doesn't just go off the rails like this, and if they have then she needs to have a serious look at what has gone wrong

Thing is she didn't even need to smile and wave, she could have ignored the kid and be completely fine. Instead she decided to take it nuclear with exactly the wrong person
People defending her are crazy. Becauee at the end of the say if I was sat at a table and didnt want a little kid walking past and smiling and then I sent a large man over to the table to intimidate the child and their parent, things would be very different. She needs to treat other people with basic respect.

She’s a very talented and interesting artist but I don’t really like her attitude. I agree that boundries need to be in place between artists and fans but I don’t think she came across well in that video at all, and now cancelling shows at the last minute (which were announced before she blew up so really most of the people there would’ve been true OG fans) to boost exposure on the VMAs doesn’t look good at allb

It’s great we’re now in a better place with understanding boundaries but some people, confuse boundaries with control. Whether that’s accidental or intentional.
A child smiling at you is a fate even us non celebs have to deal with. Most of us just smile back or ignore and move on.
But you can’t look at her, can’t smile at her or use her name but at the same time, you must support her, show up when she wants, she was even complaining that she didn’t get famous fast enough.
Yeah. ‘Boundaries’

TLDR That girl on the subway dodged a bullet.

No one should expect to go to work and have people be rude to them and then told to just smile and accept it because that’s how it’s always been. Feels like for famous women we’re stuck in the past and if they create boundaries they must be crazy.
The pap wasn't rude to her. He was telling another pap to shut the fuck up. She is crazy for deciding it's all about her, probably because her main character syndrome is so enormous.

I really enjoy Chappell’s music and I’m glad she’s sticking up for herself when it comes to the expectations on female artists BUT I think letting down the fans in Amsterdam and Paris at such short notice is out of order. Scheduling conflicts a week before?

I think she needs to take a break and just rest for awhile. Her record was put last year, and it is clear that someone decided that they should give her a massive push pre festival season to get her to break through and since then she has been everywhere.

What I don't think helps, is that part of the push has been trying to paint her as a ' bold original voice with something to say', but she doesn't really come across like that outside of her songs. She has been built up to be something she isn't and people are disappointed when she doesn't echo their beliefs back at them.

She reminded me a little of Billie Eliish, how people act like she is a great feminist intellect, when a lot of what she has to say about anything is only exciting if you are a teen who has never heard it before. She does not have the life experience and comes cross clueless and imature

She also had a habit of over sharing personal things and then scolding people who ask questions about anything.

My favourite thing about this drama has been people excusing her because kids suck

yeah they’re annoying little shits but you don't go out of their way to scare them like that or generally just be disrespectful to them. Give them a smile, give them a wave and move on with your breakfast even if they’re somehow being brats

It’s also going to be a nice hotel with workers around there’s like a million and one ways to handle this without getting security involved

The Hotel has spoken - it wasn't one of their staff, therefore it is one of Chappell's!

TMZ needs to get their hands on the CCTV now.

It's such influencer behaviour from her, give me all the brand deals but but claiming abuse for the inevitable consequences of fame that always have and always will exist.

Doing this in Brazil with their pop fandoms and lack of chill was the worst place. Katy Perry would never.

Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like she’s not just standing up for herself but in doing so she’s standing up for other female artists. I’m sure they’ve all experienced aggressive and rude paps before but as women we are told to laugh it off.
This isn't standing up for other female artists. Instead she's taken all the attention off the event she was at - where she was supposed to be supporting her fellow female artist Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS premiere.
