Thanks girl meister. It looks like we only have half a story. The drunk elephant guy was responding to something. Do we know what that was/what it said? Was his outburst an unprovoked attack on CH’s ‘expertise’ or was it a (admittedly ill-advised) reaction to something behind the scenes that we weren’t privy to (because it didn’t fit the narrative)?

Nathan Rivas had got into a dialogue with someone over their Retinal and she quote CH and he answered with the following. I can't remember the Insta persons name as I think she had saved the whole conversation to her highlights. She obviously then sent the exchange to Caroline who screenshot this on her Insta.

I have found this - Danielle Hay was the person who messaged DE first and copied CH in. Her Derm (@nmkskin) then put this post out. Hope the link works

Well you learn something new every day .

I did not know that Dr Sam Bunting didn’t complete her training in Dermatology so shouldn’t be known as a Dermatologist.

Anybody else surprised?

Yep, very surprised. Although, not at all. All these people appear more and more as incompetent narcissists. Never liked Dr Sam Bunting's persona on YouTube anyway.

On Sam's website she has testimonials from articles referring to her as a dermatologist. She shouldn't let herself be known as one if she isn't one.

I follow Anjeli Mahto who is a Consultant Dermatologist. She wrote a great post about people presenting themselves as something they’re not and haven’t trained for ( like Sam Bunting), I wonder now if she was hinting about her albeit diplomatically .

Can’t be a top derm if never was a derm! I didn’t realise this, I unquestioningly assumed she actually is a top derm. Anyway, if CH misrepresented her whilst shilling a product then isn’t it her duty to do better? How on earth is it not better enough to correct the credentials of someone stating they’re an autbority? This is balmy to me/

Caroline Hirons telling someone they are rude and to ‘do better’ it’s just the lolz

Hmmm, isn’t this interesting? So the Dr Sam stuff is deliberately opaque. I can find stuff about her doing her training at Cambridge & UCL (why both?) and registering with the RCP in 2002. Then vague talk of practising medical dermatology for a few years before setting up on Harley St. No confirmation or discussion of specialist qualifications. This is on her bio for her blog and comes after a big para about her celeb work 😐. Obviously wayyyy more relevant than her actual medical qualifications and knowledge.

So is the title ‘Cosmetic Dermatologist’ meaningless? I’m a nurse (RN) and the title ‘nurse’ isn't protected, anyone can use it. ‘Registered nurse’ is protected though and anyone using it must be appropriately qualified and registered with the NMC. Is it the same for ‘dermatologist’? Is it only a protected title if you use a certain prefix (like ‘Consultant’ for instance). So a bit like that nonsense ‘medi-spa’ trend where everything is given a faintly medical gloss, ‘prescribed’, sold only through salons/clinics and sold at outrageously inflated prices (hello Obagi).

I know cosmetic dermatology is a Thing in the US but what training do you actually have to to practice as one? What about in the UK, is it actually a recognised speciality here? It isn’t a speciality I recognise outside of Harley St and Real Housewives of Whereever

So Caroline the almighty didn't make it to the Times top 100-list (but then and again she probably doesn't qualify as an influencer).

Good digging! Hmm hopefully someone else more knowledgeable than me will chime in but in my country I believe title "Dermatologist" is protected. Only when you've finished specializing (when already a certified doctor) in dermatology after x years, you do get to use the title.

There’s a Samantha Bunting on the GMC register, who graduated medical school (University of London - it doesn’t specify which school) in 1998. It states they are not on the specialist register, which means (if I have this correct) she is not a consultant dermatologist nor in training to become one.

Right. What is “press samples” meant to mean...? Surely it should be #ad??!
Not necessarily, it only needs to be disclosed as an ad if either money had passed hands or there are specific coverage requirements. Technically I think it should be “gifted” but “press samples” or “PR samples” is quite often used, and I think does make the relationship clear, ie. the product was given by the company with no coverage requirements.

Wow. I remember her hating on them on her blog
Me too. She had a right rant about them and their practices if I remember right? Now shilling them. Clearly money can make Caroline change her opinions very quickly.
