She's not berating anyone for using products for their skin, she's berating CH for encouraging people to over buy. CH used to recommend cycling through like 5 different products in your acid step. Which is an unnecessary step anyway from a non-aesthetic viewpoint.

You said this a lot better than I did
Thank you! As someone who has wasted a tit tonne of money over the years on stuff influencers have recommended, I feel strongly about it. I feel so annoyed when I think of all the money I spent between Hirons and Hughes and the normalising of excessive expenditure. My skin wasn't wrecked but my savings were. It's not about Jessica trying to make people feel guilty for looking after their skin as one poster claimed, I love skincare and don't feel guilty about it, but I don't need the latest "must have" that Hirons mentions once and never again.

The stories of women who had perfectly fine skin until they read Caroline's blog/ Facebook page and then ruined it by throwing too many products at it are many. It's not a rare occurrence.
I am one of them. I know I can't wholly blame her for what I've done to my skin, she didn't hold a gun to my head, but I admit to being influenced. Isn't this her job title? Influencer. This was in 2014 by the way, I've learned the insidious ways of the influencers since then. I can't believe I actually believed they'd recommend stuff they actually liked and worked for them. How silly of me.

I feel really conflicted about tretinoin. I have been using it for a couple of months now, you can buy it over the counter where I live for less than €10 a tube. On the one hand it does give fantastic results, my skin is smooth, even and it did something amazing to my pores. On the other hand it is true what Jessica deFino says, it does not feel like 'taking care' of my skin.

It is harsh and sometimes my skin feels almost sunburnt and incredibly dry. Then, yes, my morning routine has to be very rich to counteract these affects. So it's a cycle which I feel is probably not very good longterm.

Does anyone else use prescription strength tret and how do you manage it?
On OTC Tret in PM top it wz some Cera Ve ointment or Vaseline... works for me ... I've been paranoid about any other product reacting wz the Tret ... AM a Vit C , hydrating serum n moisturiser.... I started low .025 n slow on the Tret .. so initially mixed it in cerave or vaseline n applied ... then moved to putting the ointment immediately on top... now i wait 15 20 mins n then apply...
I've also reduced using all other actives n exfoliating products to minimum... no spf currently as dont go out in sun at all.. n i don't believe spf is needed indoors ..for my skin type

Point... completely agree here ... my current routine feels borderline boring but it works ...i know tret works better than everything else put together. .so i dabble in other products in AM or sometimes just for the feel good factor ... but never spending big bucks on skincare again.. keep it simple n expectations realistic

Thank you @Mayday and Molly.
I do kind of sandwich the tret with my normal night time routine, that's what labmuffin recommends if you know her? That seems to work okay. I think I just need to accept that it's not something I can use regularly. Once or twice a week seems more than enough for my skin.

This is not someone I would take any sort of advice from. This doesn’t look camera ready for a product recommendation video to me

Another dermatologist, Dr Aegean Chan, has also made an insta post on how people shouldn’t stress about their skincare routines. Basically she’s saying just do what works for you. If you want to use a lot of products that’s fine, but don’t feel pressured by influencers into buying the latest product with the latest magic ingredient. She says skincare is personal so do what makes you feel good.

I’ll go along with that!

Is it just me or has she had lip filler too?
I don't think there is lip filler, to me her top lip doesn't look particularly full. Didn't she have cheek filler at one point? I think filler can migrate?

Obviously she might well have had lip filler and just not gone to the extremes we see with most celebs and influencers with their over plumped surprised look!

It can migrate but I don't think it would that far. It looks like she has to me from looking at her cupid's bow. Badly administered filler can cause that shadow effect above the top lip if it's put too high up and this doesn't usually make the lower part of the top lip look that plump (because it's been placed incorrectly)

I don't know why she keeps going back to the same person who does this to her face, it's awful!

Remember there was a woman who spent thousands and thousands on surgery to look like a cat? Well maybe Hirons is doing similar except as a hamster. Sorry, sorry

I’m guessing mostly because it’s free
I can imagine as well that it's a slippery slope. You have one thing done and then notice other little so called flaws and the doctor suggests further "tweakments" (yuck) for those and you just continue and continue until it starts looking quite unnatural and overdone but you can't really see it yourself as it's been a gradual process.

Oh I agree, but I was thinking more about why you’d go back to someone who isn’t doing that great of a job - it’s the same with her hair

I know it's an odd one. She obviously thinks she looks well though. See also the mad eyelash extensions she used to have.

They were horrendous. I saw somewhere that her husband hated them so that's why they weren't replaced

I don’t get the whole eyelash extensions thing (no offence to anyone) they look beautiful when they’re freshly applied but that bit before you go to get them re done when half of them have fallen off just gives me the heeby jeebys

I use it infrequently e.g. once a week and I get the results of keeping the acne at bay without the side effects.

I like Jessica Defino in a number of ways (she raises my eyebrow in others) but I'm now very careful about putting anyone on a pedestal whether it's an influencer or someone claiming to disrupt the industry. I guess I'm going back to trusting my gut. Ever since I found Tattle, I deleted every single 'content creator' and influencer I followed and not only has my skin remained on my face, my bank balance is the healthiest it has been in years.

I do think it's important to consider 'is this really necessary' when it comes to skincare, but I trust my brain, gut and skin over all the Caroline's or Jessica's in the world.
