I'm very lucky to be able to afford a great dermatologist. When she saw the amount of products I was using she was shocked. I trusted CH and Sali Hughes. They influenced me. My skin went from manageable to awful. Too many products. Too many active ingredients. Dermatologist had me stop using every single thing. I now use a basic moisturiser, sunscreen, and a prescription only cream. My skin NOW looks amazing. The money wasted by listening to and trusting CH and Sali.
I went to a dermatologist also, a man in his 60s who thankfully is not like an Instagram Dr Natalia or similar fame hungry derm. He was also shocked at the elaborate routines that influencers peddle.

£300 that's way expensive, no one needs that amount of skincare products. I was appalled she has clearpay as an option sure it breaks down the price but its such uncertain times no one should feel they have to be in debt to follow a trend. I followed Caroline blindly my skin went from nice to breaking out I've reduced what I use and only use what my skin tells me it needs and its improved no end.

I’m the same. The only tips I still use from CH are double cleansing and acid toners (mild acid and only twice a week). I’ve really cut down on all the serums/cleansers/moisturisers I stupidly bought weekly.

It's incredible (and sad) the amount of people who come to the thread with the same tale of good skin turning bad after following her double cleanse and scrub with a flannel, vitamin c, acids and retinol skincare routine.

I can't begrudge her making hay while the sun shines, at least she is doing her own thing and taking initiative unlike a lot of influencers who just do paid adverts and affiliate links. Let's be honest if I had the fans who would make me a mint every three months by releasing a product I'd be over it like a rash.

I personally think she should release the kits every six months especially when they have all been pricey. Or she should mix it up and have a luxury and budget kit to make them more accessible. Make the budget kit say between £50 and £100 depending what's in it and the luxury one say £200 - £300. Two kits at £300 doesn't make sense to me as she is limiting the people who can afford to fork out that kind of money in one go.

I'd also make the bags an optional extra most people don't need any more cosmetic bags, if you are in to skincare and beauty they are regularly part of gifts with purchase etc.
I would begrudge her. The info she gives can be quite damaging to some people's skin. She portrays herself as an independent expert. She's a self-important grifter.

I guess that the message is not everyones skin needs the same thing genetics and lifestyle can impact how skin ages so not everyone requires the same products or rituals.

If I had fans, I wouldn’t take advantage of them by releasing a product they can’t afford every 3 months to make a mint off them through ClearPay. But everyone has different morals.

Tell us more! What's your skin type? Was the derm particularly insistent about stopping any specific products/ingredients? I've been thinking about seeing a private derm for a while... How did you find a good one and do you know what a good price is for a consultation?

Fkn hell, £300 is over half my rent! Absolutely ridiculous. Hirons should read the room - mass redundancies and people on furlough, but nope, still gotta shill the Autumn kit even though the summer kit only came out recently 🙄

I feel like she should stick to just summer and winter kits. Having one each season seems excessive.

Her room is full of her freaks, so she’s giving them exactly what they want. They’re clamouring to get their hands on these kits.

Those of us on the outside looking in can see it for what it is, but they are in a mindset that skincare and in particular whatever Hirons tells them they must have, is their world. They find the money from somewhere, and if that means paying on credit then so be it ☹

The frequency of the kits encourages hoarding of products, and by the time they get around to using some of the stuff it may well be past it’s best.

Rosacea and dermatitis. The dermatologist was recommended to me by a friend who is a doctor (different field of medicine but interested in derm). I was told to stop everything as my skin was highly sensitized. My treatment plan was specific to my skin issues. The number of products I was using was making my skin issues worse over time (especially glycolic acid, which I thought was helping). They went through my entire veryyy long list of products and told me what to keep and what to get rid of and why.
CH recommends some products for rosacea suffers that my dermatologist said a big no to. Seeing my skin now i loathe CH. I feel duped by her fake insider knowledge. The doctor has recommended 2 other products which I can add later (also gave us names of cheaper options). If you can save to see a dermatologist privately I would recommend it. My skin is happy now. CH advice f'd up my skin.

No wonder she thinks she’s bleeping qualified to give out advice on the stuff she does when people post tit like this. Likening her and mentioning her alongside medical professionals and then she reposts it! 😡

I remember meeting CH in Manchester at one of her talks. I thought she had my best interests at heart. Stoopid me fell for her act and self-appointed expertise. I bought stuff I didn't need. Stuff that made my skin worse. Wasted money that I worked very hard for. I believed her.

The lines have become so blurred now with specialists and those who are bloggers/influencers. Not saying we should disregard what bloggers views are but the power they seem to command is alarming and some like CH feel quite manipulative even the freaks group felt like some kind of cult. I enjoy skin care and make up but urgh just because something works for me doesn't mean it will work for someone else and like we need to underpin advice with research otherwise what's the point of guidelines

Snap! I ended up with awful deep spots on my neck that took months to go in terms of scarring. Never had that before. Then I had an allergic reaction to something, tbh I think that was connected to covid, so I stripped everything back. French pharmacy brands, a gel cleanser by bioderma, a quick spritz of face mist and a moisturiser with sunscreen. Got a serum from avene for extra dry skin days. Honestly my skin is banging now.
If anyone's looking for a great non chalky non clogging moisturiser then Paula's choice spf50 is awesome. Also you can often get these brands cheaper on look fantastic and feel unique.

Thank you so much, that's really helpful. I've been thinking of doing this for a while but am worried about the cost beyond what's quoted for an initial consultation. How many times did you have to go?

The irony of that post saying "check your sources, check your bias" then recommending CH is blowing my mind a bit. It's too early for this tit.

If a dermatologist puts you on prescribed meds then you may need to be reviewed to see how effective it is for you. The time between first appt and review appt will depend on the treatment prescribed. I've been a few times. Once my issues are stable I'll probably only need to go once a year. I can also email with any queries or to check if I can use a product. It was expensive but cheaper than what I was spending on CH recommended products. It's reassuring that I don't need so many active products. I also don't need to use actives on every part of my face. I think CH may look down her nose at some derms. Jealous.

The skin+me service are dermatologists and are really lovely. Once they decide what your treatment is they then show you what products to use in your skincare routine which amounts to.... 3!!!

They aren’t dermatologists. They’re pharmacists that have taken an interest in dermatology and have had some training by dermatologists. But they don’t say how much training.

I feel really conflicted about tretinoin. I have been using it for a couple of months now, you can buy it over the counter where I live for less than €10 a tube. On the one hand it does give fantastic results, my skin is smooth, even and it did something amazing to my pores. On the other hand it is true what Jessica deFino says, it does not feel like 'taking care' of my skin.

It is harsh and sometimes my skin feels almost sunburnt and incredibly dry. Then, yes, my morning routine has to be very rich to counteract these affects. So it's a cycle which I feel is probably not very good longterm.

Does anyone else use prescription strength tret and how do you manage it?
I’ve been using it since April, started on 0.025% for the first month and 0.05% since then. I use the same cleansers as before (Body Shop Camomile cleanser followed by Beauty Pie double phase) but have to be a bit more gentle with the flannel, and I use the Emma Hardie balm cleanser 1-2x a week for a bit more oil. I then use a mist, let that sink in, then the tret, and then after 30 minutes I use a facial oil or The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors (I think that’s the name? The one that’s just a normal moisturiser and no other ‘stuff’).

I’ve had a few patches of peeling but nothing too bad, but my skin definitely needs these richer moisturisers than I was using before. It’s been worth it though, the texture is much better and without sounding too much like a gob, my skin is radiant. Unfortunately its attached to a skull more suited to a gorilla than a human, but I’m making the most of what god and science gave me 💅

The photosensitivity is my main issue though, I’ve always been the type to need SPF50 to even type the phrase ‘direct sunlight’, but now it’s ridiculous. Good thing we’ve had a pandemic that’s limited my summer fun!
