She's a clueless oaf. Caroline, they don't need your ridiculous white saviour act. At first I thought she was just embarrassing herself but she's actually in offensive territory now.

Caroline, not everything needs your hot take or spoke. Sometimes it's better to sit something out if it's not for you. Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

I think she did mention an August skin kit a while ago
There's a lot of passive promotion... I've noticed howthe most expensive moisturiser from the Kate Sommerville range gets a mention over n over .. it was same for the Blue Cocoon fro ML ... ive tried another moisturiser from KS n its ok ... but not this particular one for the price tag. .. i also fell for the blue cocoon hype years ago...mind you it smells divine but for that price tag ... $180 plus shipping n customs to where i am n its just an oil balm... didn't change my world ... so do research n not believe every word is the lesson

Didn’t her Mum work for Lancôme? , her Mum has really lovely features and clear skin, she didn’t layer on a ton of different products that’s for sure.
Her Gran to was a counter lady back in the day... her puc used to be on the 1st page of the blog... avblack n white one... quite nice !

Should a white woman be making the below statements? (all from Hirons’ Fenty reviews.)

Her anger that most big beauty brands are designed for and tested on white skin is obviously justified. But then she gets so far out of her lane, my jaw dropped. I’m white too, but I think raising these questions is potentially useful?

Why did she not invite a black woman to take over her (huge) platform and review Fenty?

Here goes:

“Do you know how hard it is to convince younger black women to use an spf?”

“It is impossible to persuade some black girls - and I say girls cos they’re the ones I see the most - to wear SPF.” [She explains that the girls she is referring to are Ava’s friends.]

“Niacinamide is a brilliant ingredient especially for a darker skin, but to make it bright, which is what you want.”

“What makes it for black skin? Rihanna makes it for black skin, that’s what.”

And then she gets really inappropriate (I added the bold):

“Now, the strangest part for me was people complaining that the SPF was chemical... and not mineral UV filters because... I’m quoting... ‘mineral is better for sensitive skins and oceans and causes less irritation‘ That is all complete bull.

I‘m just gonna put it to you like this, and then this can be the quote of the day, OK? Rihanna making an SPF for black skin and using mineral sunscreen ... is like a white person, hear me now people, is like a white person... is like me bringing out an SPF that was boot polish, that was black, because when I put it on my face it blackens out my face. If you put those mineral sunscreens on a dark skin it is like this [holds a white flannel in front of her face] Yes - it’s me, I have a flannel to hand. Right? This line is not made for you and that’s absolutely fine.”

“It is literally like me bringing out an SPF and it turns my skin black. This is made for a dark skin tone, it is not made for you, OK?”

“So just to reiterate - asking someone, who is a black woman, to make a sunscreen that suits a white face is bizarre - to me.”

“It is like me bringing out a SPF and it like turns my skin black.”

“They are made for her demographic which is predominantly darker skin tones, black skin, and I’m sure it suits them absolutely perfectly and it’s about bloody time, let’s face it. I have about 5000 products... 4995 of them were tested on white skin...”

WTAF??

By the way, looking at the Fenty website it’s clear that while the range is focussed on WOC, they want it to be for everyone. I get that Hirons is angered if white people are complaining that the range is not designed for them, but I’m not sure that is what she’s responding to. And whatever, the above from Caroline is not OK. If she can’t do better than this she just needs to be quiet. Accept that - as she keeps saying - she’s not the target demographic, and pass it to someone more qualified to review it.

I have to admit, I didn’t get that far into the igtv as I couldn’t stand listening to her harp on. As you say, I don’t know why she couldn’t have just let those who the range is designed for test and review it. All she had to do was perhaps acknowledge it had been released and simply state which skin types it’s suitable for, rather than do a full in depth on each product and all the ingredients. But, obviously her ego being what it is, she had to go the whole hog and be the big gob know it all.

So she, as a white woman, knows more about dark skin than Rihanna (and the experts who developed the skincare). Right.

Is she trying to say that mineral sunscreens can have a white cast to them that darker skin tones might not like? Why doesn’t she just say that?

On Cetaphil - their moisturising lotion is the best I’ve ever used. I use it as a body lotion and it makes my legs super soft, never any dryness (which I’m prone to). Sometimes it annoys me it’s so good when I want to try a more fun, fragrances one, but they’re never as good 🤣

A friend of mine used to work alongside Caroline Hirons and said she was a vile racist (my friend is black btw) I know people change but I honestly think her white saviour bull is a cover up job.
She was almost frothing at the mouth when repeating Fenty Skin isn’t for white skin whilst saying how amazing that is.
Fenty Skin have said the skin care range is for all skin types not just dark skin tones so she’s stuck on the wrong track with this one!

That’s horrible, @Roz, but it also makes sense.

Hirons also made a big song and dance about how she asked Fenty if they had tested their products on darker skins “and they said yes. So there”. The implication being that they needed holding to account by her. No words.

I bet she asked them if they had tested on white skin also and that was her real question.

I think it came after this bit: “I have about 5000 products... 4995 of them were tested only on white skin...”. So off she goes to interrogate Fenty (not L’Oreal, you notice). But yes, she’s projecting and revealing herself throughout.

I do love proverbs and old sayings. This one seems apt:
'An empty vessel makes the most noise..' 🤷‍♀️

Didn't she make some deragotary remark about African countries at a conference once? It must be some years ago. I think people talked about it on GG but I can't confirm since their servers are down for the moment. She's always given me the impression of your typical white saviour tbh.

She’s on her soapbox again tonight. Telling people to ‘get over it’ wrt the fragrance in Fenty skincare.

Erm, news flash Caroline, not everyone has elephants hide for a face and doesn’t necessarily want to take the risk of aggravating their skin. She’s actually getting boring now with her constant defence of Fenty. I’m sure they don’t want or need her to fight their battles for them.

I always question why she loves retail Dr brands but rarely has time for the ones you might find in a derm office like Dr Obagi or skinceuticals etc. At this point I’m cynical enough to think it’s because they don’t do sponsorships....
This is what I meant by doctor brands! Retail v derm office ones. But yeah, I’ve started following other skincare “gurus” who delve into the science and really take the time to use a product before suggesting it, show how to properly apply specific products and are just much more well-versed in explaining how something works or why it won’t. And do it in a way that’s not preachy, aggressive or know-it-all.

I think I recall something along the lines of ‘having spots isn’t related to what you eat, that’s why there are no people with acne in Africa’. Think she got backlash for it at the time, obviously

She’s on her political soapbox this morning- ugh! Irrespective of whether I agree with her, it’s unnecessary, is she angling for an appearance on Question Time? Besides I bet she and her company are taking advantage of applicable tax loopholes.

Besides the crass ignorance of the rest of what she said, this bit is complete BS. I can give myself at least one honking great spot, usually several, within 4 days(and have done) by having dairy everyday.
