And then add the cost of that fancy dinner and overnight hotel stays and freebie boxes for attendees 🤯

Thing is if you’ve got £125 burning a hole in your pocket and you need skincare and those products suit you then fabulous.

For me it just exposes how much greed and excess is swilling around the industry and how much smoke and mirrors is at play when it comes to what you get for your money.

And who is making this stuff anyway? How come we never meet the people in the factories? Isn’t that weird? There needs to be a beauty equivalent of the #whomademyclothes campaign.

It's interesting to note that 5 out of 8 reviews on the SpaceNK website all mention the word 'value' in the review title :sneaky:

I often wonder how costing is worked out. .. all these "influencers"are given complimentary n in this case dinner ... etc.. i know there are marketing budgets but in the end it's taken from what's set as selling price of products. .in this case a box.. im yet to ever find a box where i think it's actually worth its price n suited for my skin ... usually no... I'd rather wait for a sale n buy what really need... CH boxes are for god knows what audience. ..the average person cant afford... also most skincare afficionados would have some if not all of the products so doesn't make much sense.. I wouldn't shell big £££ for backups...

It’s interesting. Is it that the marketing budget was always the amount it is now but we accepted it being spent on magazine advertising etc. Now we see it being spent on influencers and events. I have no knowledge but it’s interesting. Is it just that it’s more visible to us now and we’re more knowledgeable about this. Is social media advertising actually backfiring on them (and I say this as someone who was plenty ‘influenced’ back in the day - still working through the backlog.

So true...it is weird. Estee Landry had a story on a brand buying cheap cream from ali exress and repackaging it to go in a subscription box...I bet there is more of that which goes on, particularly for the smaller brands. That is such a good point.

I have watched her recent appearance on This Morning (via YouTube) and am baffled by the debit/credit card chat. You use your debit card for cheap skincare and if it’s expensive you buy it on credit? Did I hear that right? Difficult to know because she’s so rushed and out of breath. If so jfc how irresponsible.
Get into debt for skincare? Great message!

Also working through the backlog. Back in the day I was easily influenced and ended up with a collection of 60+ lipsticks. Insane, as I only wear a small handful

With these boxes I usually wait to see what’s in it, and if it contains 2 or more things that I would use anyway then I might buy it.... this box has 3 things that I use anyway so I got it as buying them separately costs so much more (they are all full sized products).
but it very much depends on what’s in the box and I wouldn’t buy it just for the sake of getting it because madam Hirons said to.

Oh but I did put it on my credit card. Dammit.

I’m on the Nadine Baggot Facebook group and I cringe how much the ladies in there fan girl over CH. Or when Trinny kept referring to Nadine as Caroline in one of her videos.
People act like she’s a messiah but she’s a sales assistant isn’t she? I mean she doesn’t have any formal training?

Apropos freebies (not CH) I read Charlotte T recently sent Fern Cotton 20 lipsticks. So at £25 a pop that is *counts fingers* £500. I can't imagine FC is short of a bob or two either.

What are her credentials for shilling all this gunge?
It's my understanding that she has no formal training.
Her background is on beauty counters I believe (Her Mum and grandmother also worked on beauty counters, so she hypes up that 'legacy').

Correcting myself. On her website, she has this vague statement, which doesn't actually clarify (IMO) what she is qualified/trained in.

No years given. Then what did she do/where did she work afterward? Seems like she was a facialist/beautician?

I think you're right, judging from that list.
'I qualified in CIBTAC' is meaningless. Clicking through, CIBTAC is the awarding body. It's like saying 'I qualified in OCR', rather than 'I have a GCSE awarded by OCR'.
Biologique Recherche sounds good, but it's a brand. As a degree isn't necessary to work on counter, the courses won't be at postgraduate level. This is like saying 'I did a postgraduate course on how to use the clinique computer'.
'Insured internationally' isn't a qualification. This just means she can rub cream on people across Europe and if they sue because it goes wrong, the insurance will pay damages.

That list is embarrassing. I'd say apart from a few day courses on selling a brand, she's got no qualifications for any of this. Which makes her the perfect schiller, because she has no basis on which to challenge brands claims, she just parrots what they say to her followers.

At Steiner School?? Huh?!
She's going back a bit... I worked on Wardour Street 20 years ago, and whatever this Steiner School was, it had shut down by then.

I know! This "training in brands" is such horseshit. You went to see their sales pitch and got to play with the product. Maybe you got to slather it on some poor underpaid souls. Now you act like your a consultant dermatologist. A while back there was an excellent twitter account challenging her. They clearly had greater knowledge than her. Probably a trainee dermatologist or the like. This person was of course accused of being a troll and IIRC there was talk of "friends in IT" tracking them down by IP address (this lie that influencers spread explained here) . Sound familiar..?

i think working on counters and ‘doing a course’. Not mocking that but be honest about it, it’s so irritating when these people try to proclaim they are a ‘professional’. Professional what? shiller? Yes, that sums it up.

I don’t get the fawners though, almost makes me sad for them.

Aren’t Steiner beauty schools where you go to learn how to work on cruise ships? I’m sure I knew a girl who went to one in Harrow.
So learning how to do nails when the boats flailing about.
