I think she has a science degree from what I remember, I watched her couple of her videos and she mentioned it in one and thats why she likes looking into ingredients and what they do, efficacies, research, etc
Again, what does that mean? A 'science degree'...it could be computer science, palaentology, botany....anything. Unless it's in dermatology, she has no more authority to speak than Hirons (or you or I). It's not about the level of the qualification or intellectual snobbery, but if your qualifications are not in that field, you are not qualified in that field. Either you have credentials, or you don't.

Making out skincare is complex, there is arcane specialist knowledge that is required or that these women know anything more than any of us is rubbish, and totally disrespectful of those who actually bothered to get proper qualifications.

This just came up in my YouTube suggestions. Is this really the best thumbnail they could make? 😳 my God. I certainly wouldn't be taking any skincare or beauty advice off her. I don't even feel bad for saying so - I've found her to be very rude and don't think she's a nice person. Why is she treated like such an authority on skincare?

Way to go Caroline. Hilarious
Nothing like sneering at someone who is dyslexic, speaks English as a second language or has just been caught out by autocorrect. No - far better to be highhanded as these effin plebs should be able to spell and punctuate when they DARE to approach Queen Caroline...

Skincare activist. I am howling. How utterly embarrassing. So tempted to ask her what this is.

Doubt you'll get a coherent answer, wouldn't bother. Unless you want to read ramblings of a self-aggrandizing saleswoman and her cult followers. :D

I listened to the episode of Fat Mascara she was on, bloody hell, she sure has high opinions of herself.

She’s truly and gobsmackingly unbelievable. How did she get so high and mighty?

This is a very good point but obviously far too nuanced for CH’s black and white worldview
“Flights, fannies, festivals, disabilities and dire circumstances” just doesn’t have the same ring to it, otherwise she’d be all over it.

I listened to a podcast about Simon Caulder the travel expert with The Independent. He doesn’t take any freebies at all. He made the point that it’s been quite hard at times but he decided it was the only way he wanted to work.
CH recommended a beauty product to me a few years ago when I had a particular problem. It was very expensive but I was desperate and took her advice. £100 later it did nothing and when I looked closed at the blog I felt so stupid when I noticed they were affiliated to her. She was very nice when I messaged her and helpful but I wish I’d known it wasn’t impartial advice. I still feel stupid about it.

That is so interesting about Simon Caulder. If he doesn't accept freebies - when it must be so hard to resist - it shows that beauty experts should be held to the same scrutiny. It really isn't hard to make the leap that if you are constantly offered and given free stuff you aren't going to slag it off.

True. He said the newspaper had come close to it but he’s obviously quite frugal when he travels. But this is how it should be especially with beauty

It wasn’t that flipping May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon stuff was it?

This a million times over. Why can’t they just admit they are unable resist the huge sums on offer?

And it’s not about “paying the mortgage” either. These people can make a decent living without the huge influencer payouts.

That bloody Blue Cocoon! Before I became cynical about ‘gurus’ I was really tempted by it, and I purchased the Huron’s/Cult Beauty box with it in, but got cold feet and cancelled the order.

£160 for 50ml of essential oil! I stopped following Hirons a while ago, is she still shilling it or has it fallen by the wayside like so many other must-haves?
