I think it will take a lot of us some time to recover from April's heart, Augustin and his snowmobile, heart, skiing, April, hearts, Augustin.

Just the words.

And I ducked out on day 5.

Has anyone read Buckeye by Patrick Ryan? It's got great reviews but I'm at about 12% and it's not clicking for me yet - just want to know if it's worth persevering

guys i have a question about the correspondent - and PLEASE spoil me. it’s to do with one of my triggers and i want to know how much it features:

is the lead character really going blind and how much does loss of eyesight feature in the story? it’s something i personally struggle to read about so may need to bow out if so.

thanks 💙

She is, and I read it before Christmas, but it increasingly features towards the end.
Kind of felt like Judi Dench's description of her own experience.

@daisynoon beat me to it.

How far through are you? Maybe we can figure out an ideal stopping point for you? / tell you how it ends (excluding trigger content ofc)

It was my first book of the year so it's still fresh in my mind.

She truly is going blind and gets to the point where she can't keep writing the letters/reading and needs help to do both.

The vision loss becomes an increasingly mentioned problem after like 70% in.

There are mentions of blurred vision, not being able to do some things, etc. But also. Even as she's becoming increasingly blind, she keeps living, she even does things she thought she'd never do. So in a way it shows that blindness isn't the end of her journey.

thanks @daisynoon @CommentBelow and @QueenBW 💙

i’m going to tap out in that case: it’s a shame as i can tell it’s a really lovely and well written book but that sort of stuff is just hard for me to read about. though bw’s comment does make me intrigued to keep trying. i would never have bought it had it been in the synopsis! onto the next one 🤦🏼‍♀️

Ok so following the comments about 25 days I decided to start reading that last night and was too gripped (and terrified) to stop so have finished that this morning (and not had enough sleep)- I quite enjoyed it and will likely read the sequel! It really was unsettling, reminded me a bit of The Shining.

I abandoned The Poppy War after something grim happened quite early on and read I Hope This Finds You Well by Natalie Sue, which was ok.

I’m also reading through the Midlife Madness series (I think that’s what it’s called?) by Heloise Hull- I’ve just finished the fourth one. It’s very Mary Sue ish and makes me think a tiny bit of My Immortal (the (in)famous Harry Potter fanfic) but there’s something about it that I find compelling- I like setting and it does make me want to go and live on a pretty island somewhere (puts me in the mind of Mamma Mia).

I’m not sure what to read next- book club tonight so probably whatever our next book is!

I’ve been listening to Late Bloomer by Clem Bastow via BorrowBox. It tells of Clem’s journey through life with undiagnosed Autism and how she reached her late diagnosis. I really enjoyed it to begin with and have related to so much of it. But, I’ve still got 2.5 hours to go and already feel like I’ve listening for about 6 months, despite it only being a 9 hour book. I’m so ready to move on to something else but don’t want to waste the time I’ve already invested.

After a serious run of duds, finally some books that I liked these last two weeks!

Incidents around the house - Josh Malerman
The Devotion of Suspect X - Keighley Higashino

And I'm already a third through after starting last night -

That'll Teach Her - Maz Evans. This is delightful so far, I gave her other book 5* and this one is VERY Janice Hallett, which is always a compliment.

Quoting myself to say, I finished it! I put it on in the background while working and don’t think I heard a sound but maybe it’s gone in via osmosis. I don’t really care either way though 😂

Starting Sarah’s Harding’s autobiography next - just a few years late.

Finally got my hands on the Richard Osman book you've been banging on about......and the Robert Galbraith book you've been banging on about, and the Kathy Burke book you've not been banging on about.
Also picked up a book by Sarah Vine - her autobiography possibly 🤔,and a Philippa Gregory that you might have been banging on about.

Yes , I read it when it was published. I don’t remember much about it other than it was quite enjoyable quick read.

After the crochet chat the other day.. I’ve just seen a crochet penguin orange book cover on their instagram! Anyone feeling inspired? Way above my skill level (3 stitches).

I've started reading The Hallmarked Man and I need your advice on what I should focus on, as I know some of you have had to read the book twice to make sense of it.
I'm only a few pages in and it sounds really convoluted and I don't have time to read the book twice! 😬😩
