I’m starting Esther Is Now Following You (the tattle book club pick) today because I want to get it over and done with. I deeply resent having my book chosen for me. I have so many other books that I would prefer to read. I shall be hate-reading every page.

By the way, I am the one who restarted the book club thread, and this book is the one that I nominated.

I have completely lost my love of reading and I'm devastated 💔 It's been almost 5 months since I fell into this slump and probably the longest in years. I'm enjoying reading your posts and have, of course, purchased new books and I live in hope that the interest returns.

Sorry for lowering the tone, especially on this holy day, but I saw someone call spicy books cliterature on reddit and thought it was too good not to share 🤣

It’s a shame it’s specifically thrillers because my mind immediately went to @LaBlonde and Where The Crawdads Sing!
i LOVE that this is my main thread reputation 🤣

it will please followers of this lore to know i had new broadband fitted on wednesday which meant some cable going behind the bookcase where crawdads still resides, stuck in the gap. i could have rescued it. i didn’t. it doesn’t deserve it.

I didn't mind Netflix's Frankenstein - I sort of subverted my expectations (I love the book) and sort of went with the whole vibe and cinematography. I think about it a lot :ROFLMAO:

I've read quite a bit over the weekend as I've had a very quiet one:

Earthly Possessions by Anne Tyler (was OK)
The Nine by Gwen Strauss (heartbreaking and informative, but huge trigger warnings for genocide)
Letter from Birmingham Jail by Martin Luther King Jr (read this as a teen but wanted to read it again, integral reading)
Dark Days by James Baldwin (I LOVE James Baldwin and wonder all the time what he would make of todays world)

Despite having an ungodly amount of TBR on my bookcases (I now have four massive ones) I'm rereading 1984 because I'm in that mood.
You mentioning 1984 reminded me I saw this meme again the other day 😂

1984 is on my priority list for 2026 as I’ve not actually read it yet!!

I absolutely love reading a book that has been distorted in the cultural consciousness and finding it's completely different to what I expected. I studied Frankenstein at school, but I read Dracula via a substack which released entries on the corresponding days in the novel, and it was such a fun way to experience it. And the cowboy was a great surprise.

Also on another note, I made it to another kindle milestone! Trying to finish some of my older books this year (just got through Fingersmith)

I have been away from tattle. Was on holiday just stopped going on tattle which honestlyhas been great, miss this thread though. Think I'm going to unwatch everything else here and just keep this thread as I love all the great book recommendations!

In the meantime on holiday i read The Housemaid series. Can't say it was amazing but it was good for reading when i don't want to focus on a harder book 🤣

Then on the flight back i thought i downloaded books on my kindle but i didn't so had to start something i already had downloaded which turned out to be the first of the Strike books. Glad it finally made me start it 🤣 I'm only about 25% in but enjoying it!!

Goodreads has now added a DNF shelf in your My Books tab!
Not that I’ll be DNFing my current read - Project Hail Mary. Really enjoying it so far !

I'm reading a romance book, and during a sex scene, instead of saying "holds my gaze", the author has gone for "holds my eyes" 🫣

This is bookish (Project Hail Mary). I’m watching the live coverage of the Artemis II mission and Houston just responded to the crew with amaze amaze amaze.
