Didn't occur to me to fear Fennell's next move until this... never thought I'd be grateful for Dolly Alderton's P&P, but at least it means that's probably out of Fennell's firing line

Oh god, I’d blanked the Dolly Alderton P&P rewrite from my mind! I have no more confidence in her ability to do it justice than I would Emerald Fennell’s! To paraphrase Madame Morrible in Wicked “I hope she proves me wrong, I doubt she will”!

Seriously though the definitive P&P mini series has already existed for 30 years. Netflix should’ve spent their money on something else (although not another Jane Austen - let’s not forget what they did to Persuasion!)

i haven’t forgiven dolly for saying that mr darcy is an unattractive snob 🥲 it fills me with absolute fear - we didn’t need this adaptation! depending on your mood and feelings there are two perfect ones! leave it alone 😭

tbh all the austens have had perfect adaptations imo apart from persuasion. i don’t mind the ciaran hines version but it still lacks something for me. and the sally hawkins one has that silly running around the whole of bath. can’t someone put their energy into making an amazing one for that?! it’s her best book 🥲

Emma Corrin just doesn't seem like a good Lizzy, just from the costume pics they released a few months ago. And I love Jack Lowden in Slow Horses but again, in costume, he's just not Mr Darcy. When it comes out I will watch 1 episode but modern adaptations tend to take too much creative licence with the characters. I still haven't forgiven Netflix for the abomination that was turning Anne Elliot into some Fleabag/Bridget Jones mash up. The food moustache?!?! Her getting tipsy on wine and making a tit of herself?! No bloody way. And Wentworth had NOTHING about him. They all came across as wet lettuces. I agree the Ciaran Hinds adaptation is the better obe but we still need The One to be made.

Also Emerald Fennel seems to think she's God's gift to adaptations 🙄

Sometimes I think don't bother, let's just stick to the books.

I read the correspondent! I loved it! I took me a few letters/emails to get into it but once I was I couldn’t put I down!

I have stuck to my 8 books or less tbr. It is actually really nice to not be completely overwhelmed by what books I have to choose from to read next and to not be buying books letting the tbr grow and grow.

That said I saw the Waterstones 25% off pre-orders and then realised that because of my 'policy' I don't even know what books are being released anyway.

I haven't read it, but just looked it up! It's free on Prime if anyone else wants to read it - sounds good.

I haven’t read it either but just grabbed it now. Hope you’re on the mend/mended Carapop.

I finished Beautiful weird this afternoon. It was ok until the last bit then it just got weird.

I’m now reading The Love of My Afterlife.

Ahh lovely to see your name appear @Carapop! Hope you’re doing better. I haven’t read it either but it sounds interesting. Let us know your thoughts when you’re done. You know how much we all love to be influenced! 😂

I’ve read the love of my afterlife, remember it vaguely fondly but don’t remember the plot!
I finished the dead romantics by Ashley Poston last night. It was ok, but wouldn’t rave about it. I really enjoyed the seven year slip but none of hers have been quite as good since.
