I've heard that before. I remember seeing if I could find an archived version of it - I think it was called Master of the Universe (this just makes me think of He-Man and I laugh) but I think it's been scrubbed off of the internet?

Heated Rivarly started as fanfic - a Steve/Bucky one, I think, but I enjoyed that, the tv show anyway. I've not read the Game Changers books but I will seek them out at some point.

There's quite a few "serial numbers filed off" fanfictions that have been turned into published works and/or tv shows and films.

i love seeing what books were once fanfics. the sheer amount of reylo that has been published astounds me. but then i have read fanfics for free that are better than any romances i’ve actually paid for so i’m glad they’re getting that money!

I'm really not surprised to see a lot of fanfic authors getting published; publishers seem to look for people with an established fanbase. But I absolutely love knowing the origin story of various media!

me too - and then looking for all the clues

my only real critique of published fanfic (which i definitely found with game changer) is that in fanfic the author trusts that you already know the characters and are invested in them being together. and they don’t change that when it’s turned into original fiction so it’s sometimes hard to get behind the actual romance of it all. but is minor because i love fanfic and ao3 is one of my favourite things ever so

Anyone else's reading time really being hit by their sudden love of all winter sports at the Olympics!!! I couldn't quite work out why my June/July reads were so low last year but am now realising it was Wimbledon!!

An interiors journalist I follow on IG gave a positive review to WH, but also described the novel as the greatest love story of all time. So...won't be trusting her review on WH or anything else I don't think!

I love non fiction and learning something new but damn, it destroys my reading momentum! Sometimes I can only manage a chapter a day because I have to absorb it 🥲
Currently reading “why doing nothing can change your life” and it’s interesting but I feel like I’ve been stuck on it for ages!
I wish I was one of those people who can have other books on the go at the same time to break it up

Unless it’s narrative non fiction I always dip in and out of non fic while reading fiction or it gets a bit hard going. Sometimes (often) my brain needs to switch off!

I've stopped reading books as I've been derailed by a TV series by the man who brought Upstairs Downstairs to the screen.
I've got 4 series to get through and I'm enjoying it very much.

Omw! The Cedar Tree. I absolutely, flipping loved that as a child. I used to come home from school for lunchtime, and would watch it with my mum and my baby sister while eating my sandwiches. Then go back to school for the afternoon. Happy times.

I had a strange book experience this week - an Agatha Christie that I didn’t enjoy! I picked up The Seven Dials Mystery as something I thought would be a quick easy read - a bit of a palate cleanser after trudging through The Diamond Eye - and it just didn’t do it for me! It felt all over the place - too many characters, plot lines that were bitty and a “twist” that was totally underwhelming. I know we’ve got lots of Christie fans on this thread so intrigued to know others thoughts on this one.

I was going to follow up the book with the Netflix adaptation but don’t think I’ll bother now!

It's definitely the weakest Christie I remember reading. Still enjoyable for me but not up to her usual standards.

I enjoyed the adaptation, it was a bit silly at points but I love a period mystery/drama.

I finished the Correspondent last night, so good but so sad I generally prefer a plot-driven book, however really liked the way the story developed through the letters. I really found myself drawn to Sybil, and so sad for her. Also loved Theodore

Ok this is interesting because my summary of it is - A Level assignment ‘pick your fav characters / plot point and develop them/it’ based on what you imagine happening / would like to have happened.

I don’t actually mean it as a criticism either, I think like Butter it’s the marketing and viewer expectations that are the issue. I know they’ve used quotation marks for the film name but I think it’s too subtle and they should have done something to make it clearer this is nowhere near faithful to the story.

I loved Michael Caine's published in the early nineties - What's It All About.
More recently highly recommend Clare Tomalin's, A Life of My Own.

I liked Educated too, although I felt sometimes she altered stories a bit to fit her narrative.

Currently reading Walking Disaster by Deryck Whibley - loved Sum 41 back in the day and this is quite eye opening to read what he went through.
