I’ll have a go at most things really - not a great fan of romance/chic lit (think I’m too old and jaded ) but otherwise I’ve got quite a varied taste.
I suppose my favourite genre is murder mystery

Ok @mee43 I would recommend the following books:
A Body in the Village Hall by Dee MacDonald (there are 7 books in the series but this is the only one I have read so far)
A Royal Murder by Verity Bright (there are 22 books in the series so far but this is the only one I have read so far)
Death By A Cornish Cove by Fliss Chester(there are 7 books in the series so far but this is the only one I have read so far)
Murder at the Wedding by Helena Dixon (there are 21 books in the series but again this is the only one I have read so far)
This isn't a murder mystery but I also enjoyed The New Wife by Sue Watson.

We have a while to wait, I think. Rebecca Yarros is apparently writing a contemporary novel before getting back to Book 4 of the Empyrean series

It’s so rude of her to expect a rest

finished glorious exploits and would be intrigued to know the thoughts of the others here who were reading it! i’m torn between three and four stars, as i thought the absolutely frantic pacing let it down in places. parts of it were really beautiful though.

I finished The Names by Florence Knapp today and I genuinely don’t have the words for how much I loved it. Cannot reccomend it enough, so emotional and beautifully written and such an amazing concept that’s very thought provoking!

I’m excited to see this! I just pick it up from the library a few days ago, but haven’t read it yet.

3.5 is what I rated it! I agree that pacing was an issue, and I don't know that the ending worked for me, but I loved the premise and the feel of the aftermath of war. I also liked how Lampo was by turns appealing and repellent

that’s a really fair rating, i think i’ll copy you i thought the same, it was a wonderful premise with really involving characters but the 10000mph speed of it all didn’t really help me engage with it. and the ending?! the whole thing literally ended on a page like yes i am very old now and everyone is dead thanks for reading - how an editor didn’t tell him to at least put one more chapter on i don’t know.

Have you read any of Kate Atkinson's Jackson Brodie books? They're pretty easy to read and are quite intriguing.

I hope so, I've been curating my wishlist in the expectation of it! I think they might since it's a long time till the next bank holiday.

They do work as standalone books, but there are little intricacies that reference bits from previous books, you would miss those if you weren't in order. If you can I would read them in order.

there are a few recurring characters that would be way easier to keep track of if you read in order - but i don’t think they’re hugely confusing to read as standalones. each case is fairly in and of itself so you don’t need lots of backstory.

i love kate atkinson and LOVE those books so hope you enjoy the one you have!

Had an ad hoc counselling session in the bookshop about my tbr list........
Picked up some books and then spent ages on my phone trying to see if I had them already in my tbr list or on hold from the library. This attracted the attention of an assistant who came over to see if I was ok/needed any help, so I had to explain.
She then told me about her tbr list and bookcases, so I left with one book feeling less like a nutter - knowing there's other people out there who are just as bad as me.

Waterstones staff are such enablers in my experience. I know it's partly their job, but you can tell it's also their passion as well for many of them.
