i imagine that it’s much more fun in audio! i’m enjoying it but you can tell that being able to hear the dialect would add so much. i might try and listen to it!

Yes! I really enjoyed the experience - sort of sounds like you're being told a story by a friend

You learn something new every day. I loved Noel Streatfeild books when I was young, and still pop on to a couple of them to read read now and again (White Boots and Curtain Up my favourites) but I had NO idea she wrote under a pseudonym! Off to check this out!

I also loved White Boots! My favourite was Ballet Shoes though, I used to read it all the time.

The two Susan Scarletts I've read have been very light romances, but I've earmarked some of the others which sound a little more substantial - Ten Way Street and Poppies for England.

I used to love reading, but since having kids (9 years ago) I've found it really hard and have only read a few books. The only ones I've read are by Paige Toon. I like just a modern easy to follow chic lit style. Can anyone recommend any other authors that are the same style?

I've only ever read a couple of Paige Toon books, but Julie Caplin's Romantic Escapes series (which I've read most of) kinda gives me similar vibes!

What are our weekend reads?

I am reading Conviction by Denise Mina.

There are about 46 characters and it is all a bit disjointed. I usually like her books so am going to persevere for a little bit longer.

I'm reading Margo's Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe this weekend. Truthfully I picked it because it was one of the shorter books on my TBR about halfway through and really enjoying it. The POV switches between third person and first person but it's not as jarring as it sounds.

Kids make everything hard don't they - god love them!!! What about Marian Keyes or Jane Fallon - they are two I've enjoyed. Oh and Jenny Colgan, Wendy Holden and Jill Mansell are books I've enjoyed before too

for more gentle modern chic-lit i would always recommend jill mansell, jenny colgan and katie fforde - all just really pleasant nice reads and colgan’s usually involve food which i like i always enjoy harriet evans too, though she’s gone more into the family saga side recently.

also I found it easier to read around kids with my kindle…I swapped scrolling my phone for it. And kindle unlimited has lots of chick lit on it

I'm reading Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix at the moment. I'm loving the setting in the girl's home, but struggling a bit now the supernatural stuff has started to be introduced . It feels like it's been shoehorned into the story a bit so far.

Then I've got The Raven Scholar which I'm really enjoying but which is around 600 pages so I need to devote some proper time to finishing it! I'm about halfway through. It's an illumicrate version so have to be careful reading it.

Weekend Reading:
On Kindle - Gleam - Raven Kennedy, the third in the plated prisoner series which I am enjoying.
Physical Book - After we Fell - Anna Todd. I am only reading this series because I bought it from 66 book club a year ago and I want to get through the series once before giving it away/to the charity shop. It’s like a broken record, every 50 pages there’s a screaming match and they break up and then get back together. It is worrying that it’s so popular, they have a terrible relationship. I’ve seen the films when are a guilty pleasure for me but I’m struggling with this.

I used to love The Children on The Top Floor when I was a kid. Made even more nostalgic because it was my Nans book and I would read it during my week in the summer at her house. I'm always looking for it in charity shops.

That comment made me think of a book my nan had that I absolutely loved and would always read at her house it's called Magnolia Buildings! I couldnt remember the title but found it with a bit of help from Google and have just found it on Amazon!

I’ll have a go at most things really - not a great fan of romance/chic lit (think I’m too old and jaded ) but otherwise I’ve got quite a varied taste.
I suppose my favourite genre is murder mystery

I am about 100 pages from the end, and I have really enjoyed it! It's high stakes court politics which is exactly my cup of tea, woven around a set of trials. There was some first person plural narration in the middle which I wasn't so keen on, but it didn't last.

It's the first of a trilogy so I'm expecting a big finish.
