I’m struggling to get time to read so I’m still plodding through Ove on my kindle and Gild in paperback.
I found The Sirens and absolute slog and quite predictable.I am reading the The Sirens by Emilia Hart at the moment, I am finding it really hard to love after Weyward was so good.
I think I am the only one who DNF Weyward.. the premise sounded goood but the execution ..i couldnt get into itI found The Sirens and absolute slog and quite predictable.
I loved Weyward, it was 5* one of my standing out books of the year. Sirens was 2* at best for me![]()
I’ve read it and really liked it. It does not pick up though and I don’t think the mysteries get any more interesting if you’re not interested now. I think there are a few character perspectives that left me wondering why on earth they needed to be included at all in the book. The ending isn’t particularly satisfying either.I'm struggling through The God of the Woods. I don't care about any of the characters and the two mysteries also leave me pretty nonplussed. I'm about 30% in and don't want to DNF because it got such rave reviews but I just don't get them right now. It makes me feel crazy or dumb![]()
I think I'm on a book break. I'm reading my backlog of magazines and only have Berserker to read from the library.I'm almost recovered from being poorly but can't seem to get back into my reading at all. Started The Teacher by Freida McFadden as her books are normally such a quick read but I'm not even halfway through yet. I also have a few library books I need to read but can't seem to get into anything. Maybe I need a book break?![]()
I just finished it. It was a two star read for me, I pretty much agree with what you saidI’ve read it and really liked it. It does not pick up though and I don’t think the mysteries get any more interesting if you’re not interested now. I think there are a few character perspectives that left me wondering why on earth they needed to be included at all in the book. The ending isn’t particularly satisfying either.
* re-reading what I just wrote doesn’t make it sound like it’s a book I gave 4 stars to![]()
Happy Birthday!I came back into the office after a long weekend off (it was my birthday) and my team have given me a Waterstones gift card![]()
I got a Pandora bracelet, that I chose myself. Because I had previously been asked to get the same for other women who left the company. And I made sure I got the samei worked in an office where for part of my leaving present I got i think it was £80 or £90 in theatre vouchers (i suspect was just from my boss) enough for a reasonable stalls seat. I stretched that bugger for 3 shows.. managed to see Sunset Boulevard on the ruddy roof LOL, Two Strangers Carry A cake Across New York in a great stalls seat and The Hills Of California in the stalls..
This is not the reason I miss that role so much but was lovely anyway
I read it, gave it 3 stars. I did not get the hype but found it soapy and entertaining for a bit. It did have bad characterization and unnecessary WH parallels, yeah. Also, the ending was disappointing imo. They hyped it up so much but fell flat.Has anyone read 'The Favourites'? I'm over half way and still finding it a slog. Can't work out if it's ice skating I'm not interested in, the badly drawn parallels with Wuthering Heights or if I'm just a bit bored!
It probably doesn't help that WH is one of my fave books so if you're going to rip it off it's got to be done wellI read it, gave it 3 stars. I do think that like Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo it's a book probably best read on audio.
*edited to add that I do love ice dancing and pairs figure skating so that probably also played into me relatively enjoying it.
