Can across a booktuber who has finished her 150 book physical tbr, which reminded me of you and your impressive kindle achievement @ordinaryjelly !
Where are you up to? single digits yet?

(Also, I have not added up either my ebook or physical tbr and am very afraid to... 😅 )

This evening I am looking forward to diving into the new Abby Jimenez.

I found The Sirens and absolute slog and quite predictable.

I loved Weyward, it was 5* one of my standing out books of the year. Sirens was 2* at best for me 😭
I've DNF off the back of you saying this. I didn't find Weyward 5* but I liked it enough that I was keen to read more by Emilia Hart, what a shame. Life's too short for books that don't bring joy though!

I’ve been really struggling getting into Babel. Put it down as I’ve come away on holiday to pick up when back as I just felt I wouldn’t pick it up whilst away. Did however get Butter and What a way to go at the airport for holiday reads

I have just finished The Will of the Many.

wow.

I think I need to go and sit down in a darkened room for an hour to process everything.

The Heirarchy parts reminded me of the Red Rising Trilogy by Pierce Brown which were brilliant - might be worth a read before The Strength of the Few comes out in November.

I am now going to read a fake marriage mafia romance as a palette cleanser. I need something frivolous after all that intensity.

@Twofor I loved all the world building in the first half of Babel and then got really bored in the second half when all the action started! Funny how different we can all be with our reading - I think a lot of people find the world building dull so I’m the anomaly.

How far in are you?
I think I was ok with the first 25% and last 10%.. the rest I was bored. Really don’t understand the hype around it.

I have Red Rising on my TBR but parked it for a bit after TWOTM concerned they might be too similar. I should prob read it now before I get too close or Nov and have the same reason again 🫣

felt exactly the same about babel. it was beautifully written in places but i just couldn’t get past the borderline patronising tone of it. and the FOOTNOTES 😩 even the action managed to be slightly boring.

The good thing about Red Rising is that it’s a complete trilogy. There are books afterwards and that story is incomplete but the first trilogy is stand alone so you can get a complete story without waiting.

From memory a good 150 pages. I do generally like world building and a good fantasy. I think after reading Yellowface first, I’m struggling with what feels like it’s a totally different author. I think I went in thinking it may have been more of an easy going tone. And the footnotes, my word. I don’t see the asterisk half the time and read it after finishing the page 😂

Ha yes, I forgot this! The distraction of constant ‘is that a star or or not?!’ did not help.

Was enjoying The Future by Naomi Alderman on Borrowbox on my phone (grrr) until my library wouldnt let me renew. Oh someone has it on hold I thought so I go to put a hold on it so I can finish and its vanished from the listings

I think I have Babel in my TBR, don’t think I’ll waste time on it now. I found Yellowface over-rated. I think I was drawn in my the cover of that one

I read Yellowface after all the hype and thought it was distinctly average. Think maybe a 3 stars for me. I didn’t even think much of her writing style, not particularly sophisticated so that then makes me intrigued to read Babel because a lot of the criticism I see about it is that she seems she’s trying to be over educated

I think this happens if the license expires and the library doesn't renew it. It's happened with a few that I've had in my wishlist - they are just no longer available to borrow or reserve. I guess this is one of the disadvantages compared to a physical book.

Currently reading Dark Places by Gillian Flynn and it's.....dark. Not really enjoying it, but want to see the story through so I'm skimming a bit here and there. Anyone read it?

I did, ages ago, I do remember it being very grim very bleak. Read it after Gone Girl because I wanted to read all of Gillian Flynn's book but Dark Places was way way darker and just relentlessly depressing. It was good at doing that, though 🤣
