For me it was either The New Wife by Sue Watson, The Road Trip by Susanne O'Leary or Bridesmaids by Jane Costello. I also enjoyed Shouting the Odds by Jon Franklin.

The Bookbinder of Jericho is my favourite book of the year so far. I absolutely loved it.
Show Don't Tell by Curtis Sittenfield. It's her latest short stories collection. Fantastic.
I watched the film that this is based on and found it depressing and boring. I'm not sure Backman is for me. I DNF's Anxious people. I just don't like his writing style.

My favourite so far of the year is a Kindle Unlimited accidental download called "Jo who died". It's a short book, less than 200 pages, but packed so much in.
This sounds really good, I've picked it up!
I found The Women to be very sad and tragic but in a way it did not feel relentlessly grim in the way that Four Winds did. I think that was because in The Women the characters had more agency. In Four Winds it felt like everything bad happened to the character and she was just knocked about, flailing in the titled Winds.I finished The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah last night and, while I didn’t hate it, I think I'm going to have to put her in the “authors everyone else loves but I don’t get” box along with Sally Rooney.
I just can’t cope with the relentless misery she heaps on her characters. Maybe if there was a bit more light and shade or if it wasn’t so obvious that things were going to go wrong I might like it more, but when you know every scenario is going to end in the worst possible way I stop caring! I quite liked The Great Alone at first but trudged through the last 3rd of it.
