oh god isthat the one where they make a massive gingerbread house in the village square? i'm pretty sure i didnt finish... don;t think i bought it though .
It IS that one... all i can recall of it was some bloke from out of town not really being into cakes.. I didnt buy it and it's not free so must have been a library find.. I like reading Xmas ones but unless its Trisha Ashley or Jenny Colgan ie guaranteed bangers,, i try not to buy

I never got as far as the bloke who wasn’t into cakes. The main character annoyed me
I’m 20% in at the moment and enjoying it. It’s one of those books were the blurb tells you what happens but you have no idea what the book is going to be about
not what I expected so far but good!

Are they planning on writing a book for all the tourist locations in Britain?! 
. Did they differ much plot wise?I find Amor Towles books are maybe a little slow but absorb you by the end. He's a really skilled writer.

Yes it’s a series but he seems to release them almost as fast as Freida McFadden. They’re usually different plots and they’re fairly short. They’re quite well written so they’re easy to read quite fast but they’re fairly basic and not winning any literary awards!I'm assuming that's the same author for those

And the only book I own on this month's available deals that I haven't already read is Rules of Civility, so it's not even that I've already succumbed. I have to say that having none that I really wanted made it easier to say no to the ones I was on the fence about.
I'm also halfway through Strange Meeting by Susan Hill - has anyone read it? It's about WW1 which I know will put some of you off immediately, but it's gorgeous, about the bond between two soldiers. I know one of them is going to die and it'll be awful, so I'm steeling myself.

I finished The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah last night and, while I didn’t hate it, I think I'm going to have to put her in the “authors everyone else loves but I don’t get” box along with Sally Rooney.
I just can’t cope with the relentless misery she heaps on her characters. Maybe if there was a bit more light and shade or if it wasn’t so obvious that things were going to go wrong I might like it more, but when you know every scenario is going to end in the worst possible way I stop caring! I quite liked The Great Alone at first but trudged through the last 3rd of it.

I haven't read any of her books and i do get this but to be brutally honest most ppls lives especially these days are not filled with joy... I can see why it might be a bit much to read about especially for those who read for escapism
The location/setting definitely adds to the bleakness.
Having said that I gave it 5
