Has anyone read The Fraud by Zadie Smith? I'm 20% in and I'm debating not finishing (which I never do). I LOVE all of her other stuff and just curious whether this is a slow burner or if it's just not for me?

I’ve done lots of traveling this month so have listened to lots of quite underwhelming kindle unlimited audiobooks. I need something to inspire me.

Quite a mish mash of books this month, as I was reading only a few books from the library and the rest were books dotted around the house.
I've told myself in the headmistress voice that I will only keep 5 star books, so everything is leaving the house of this month's reading books (the only 5* being a library book).

What words on a blurb make you instantly put a book down? For me it’s anything to do with a war. Especially WW2. ‘Spanning decades in post was Germany’ etc. bleugh. Back on shelf.
March Books
In INSERT YEAR ...
If you have to tell me when it is set I am not interested. If that year is in the future you miiiiight not lose me. But if it's anything other than current day (exception for WW2 stuff) I am not reading it.

the first book has the absolute worst male “love interest” you will find in any book ever so i don’t blame you for forgetting it
it was just dull tbh - lucy score manages to make a 30 page plot last about 600 pages and is obsessed with “then everyone got MARRIED and had BABIES” in her epilogues and so i got to around page 200 and realised i could be doing something else, so i did
March was a really good month of reading!

there seems to be tons of these type of things now .. The Shape Of Water film. The Pisces, Nightbitch...to name but a few its most odd, wonder what it says about societyi just read the synopsis and….. you got me

To be fair to him I am a harsh scorer. 3 means it was pretty enjoyable. I score most of my reads a 2 or 3. I rarely score 4’s and 5’s. He is quite good for listening to if you enjoy domestic thrillers like John Marrs. Won’t set your world on fire but a decent enough way to pass time.
Same! I met someone at my book club who loves these and I was like “absolutely not”.
I blitzed through it, totally desperate to find out what has actually happened. It fascinated me how many brilliant books have been buried by other useless first reads/random 99p books/prime reading ones.
Down to 15 books. Am going to start Ann of Cleeves later.

any ww2 or other historical novels are defo for me. Can't think of anything in particular that would always put me off a book unless it sounds really twee, preachy or if a book is described as laugh out loud hilarious (it never is)

For me it usually means either that or that it's going to be cringe or just not funny at all. Can't even remember what book it was i read recently, i was reading reviews for it and some were saying it's not as funny as the blurb makes it out and the jokes weren't funny. That's when i realised the book was supposed to include jokes, i didnt notice
maybe i dont have sense of humor (i dont think thats the case though )
Ironically, "unputdownable". Or something to the effect of "a twist you'll never see coming!" Tbf these are more the mini reviews on the book or the tagline after the blurb but still.
