I started The Trial late last week and raced through the first 20%. It's just not calling me now though and I'm not as invested . I'll finish it but, currently, I'm glad that I didn't buy the sequel.

The one by rob rinder? I felt the same, but I’m glad I stuck with it. I’ve bought the suspect on 99p kindle deal this month

I'm 30% through and it's a bit bizarre, I'm wondering if it stays like this throughout? I'm kinda skimming it now but am considering DNF'ing it as I'm sure one of the 167 other books on my Kindle is much more enjoyable.

I'm 30% through and it's a bit bizarre, I'm wondering if it stays like this throughout? I'm kinda skimming it now but am considering DNF'ing it as I'm sure one of the 167 other books on my Kindle is much more enjoyable.

I had an advance copy of it but dnf.. I didnt realise it was a horror book about being a parent.. I dont think i got as far as you though

I’ve got another Book Club Meeting this week, ’genre’ is books about birthdays or celebrations. So far I’ve thought of Mrs Dalloway(!) and Ralph’s party by Lisa Jewell. Anyone got any other ideas?

Last time was books about drinking and people were brilliant with recommendations, I read the little coffee shop of Kabul and Blood Orange, both of which I enjoyed, even though there were no likeable characters in Blood Orange and the ending was a slightly odd choice. It was clear the husband was a wrongun very early on but I did wonder whether she was just a really unreliable narrator because of all the drinking. I had made the assumption that he was a pedalo and his men’s sex addiction group he was counselling was a pedalo ring which was why he wanted to keep their child.Quite glad it didn’t go down that route but the autoerotique asphyxiation route was very out of the blue, even though it was the first thing you read!

Yesterday I finished the Filthy Rich Vampires Quadology(?) got a bit bored by the end of the fourth one and of course there was a surprise(ish) pregnancy Would love to read a book where a couple are all over each other but specifically don’t want that to happen if anyone also has any ideas!

There’s an Agatha Christie called Hallowe’en Party (set at a Halloween party, as the name might imply lol). Does that sort of meet the book club brief?

Daisy Darker is set around a grandmothers 80th birthday party in a house that gets cut off from the mainland and strands the family there. Another “guests stranded in one place” is The Guest List by Lucy Foley. That one’s set at a wedding.

ahh I read the Katherine of Aaragon one earlier this year and it’s massive! I’ve got all of them but needed a break

I love them. I can get completely lost in the storyline, a real bit of escapism. Katherine of Aragon is there longest one, not that that helps they are all fairly hefty books!

I’m in such a reading slump right now

I have finished something like 22 books this year and just randomly overnight my brain has decided it is bored by reading.

I was working my way through The Seven Sisters first book and I think it’s just too slow in comparison to what I normally like (thrillers, mystery, a bit of smut )
Has anyone read this series and can shed some insight as to whether it gets better?
It came highly recommended by many people but definitely not the kind of people who have smut on their book shelves LOL

There is a mystery running as a thread throughout the books. Hence readers who were going through the series as they were published becoming manic when they read the author had died and would never know why.
Luckily the authors son finished off the series.

But with books sometimes you just don't get it when everyone's raving about a book and to you it's just meh!
Having read the whole series through the library I have purchased books 2 and 3 in the series and the last one - Atlas, as they were the ones that "spoke" to me the most.
It will be different for everyone, though.

I think if you’re not enjoying the first book then I wouldn’t bother with the rest of the series! Obviously everyone will have a book from that series that’s their favourite, but I think they’re all pretty consistent in terms of style and pacing.

There is a mystery running through the series but as it takes 8 books to get to any answers it’s an understatement to say it’s a slow burner! The series is much more about the sister’s own individual stories.

I really want to read this series but reaaallly should finish some other series before I start another!

I listened to the whole series as audiobook and i liked it in the end but it was partly because i could listen to it going to sleep as it wasn't too fast paced and found it quite relaxing. I remember thinking that reading the whole series would take me ages. Like others said it's a bit of a slow burner and each book is slightly different. I also enjoyed "Atlas" the most.

(The) Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson. Won't let me add the image, but this was a £1.99 purchase in May 2018 (earliest book to date I think.) Long before the days of 99p reads, Kindle Unlimited, First Reads etc..

Absolutely blitzed through this book in a few hours. Really enjoyed it. I was completely invested in the characters.

I am down to 26 books on my trb. Eep. The end is finally in sight.

It is 804 days since I purchased a book - 29th December 2022. Which just shows you how out of control my tbr was. I went through and got rid of all my 'filler' books and trimmed it down to those books I actually wanted to read - which took days to do, at the beginning.

I have read 578 books since I last purchased one. I will have read 604 once I get to the end of my tbr.

In the future I am not going to have more than 8 books on my tbr and I will be really strict about it.

Can't really do the next letter picking anymore, so I am just putting the number into a random number generator and counting down the books that way.

You've done amazing! I have probably around 250 books to read between physical and Kindle. I've been much better this year and have only bought around 8 on the 99p deals so far but I would like to have reduced my kindle tbr by at least half. In terms of physical books I was doing great until I found the whole Strike series in the charity bookshop!
