I do wonder how well this would transfer to screen. I adored it but Im not sure about a tv adaption.

Just saw this on Instagram. Yellow face and Cleopatra & Frankenstein are also listed at the back as due to have TV adaptations

Cleopatra and Frankenstein is under development as a TV series but there have been no updates since 2022, there is no cast attached yet or director. So I doubt it will be out in 2025 if at all.

I really want to start reading more on my Kindle - it’s just so much more convenient and often cheaper (although i do buy books from charity shops, when there’s a title i really want it’s inevitably cheaper on Kindle) - but I struggle with reading from a screen. I much prefer having a book i can pick up and set down and the Kindle just isn’t the same. It’s mainly the first few chapters i have to force myself through then i kind of forget i’m reading on a screen. I suppose i’m looking for tips on how to break through this? I really want to read Rivals after watching the TV show, and I have a few Lucinda Reillys i want to read, that are just just sitting on my kindle unopened. Does anyone else have this mental block about reading a book that’s not on paper?

Have you played around with your kindle settings? There might be a font or font size that you find more comfortable to read on the screen. Or perhaps you need the screen to be more or less bright from the backlight? I know on my paperwhite signature I can also adjust the warmth which is great.

I enjoyed The Trial and also The Suspect. The main character a junior barrister is a very likeable character. I've noticed there's another book The Protest so I'd like to read that when I get the chance.

I think The Protest comes out in a few months, I look forward to reading it. I agree with you the main character is likeable.

I usually think their awards are tripe. But this year there are some books that I definitel think are worth a read :

The Women
The God of the Woods (couldn't put this down)

I have the Stephen King and The Anxious Generation on my tbr.

The Women and The God of the Woods are both on my TBR pile. I’ve added the anxious generation as I’ve heard people discuss this.
I’ve never read an Emily Henry but notice she’s won the romance genre a few years in a row.

Ohhh! If you want more golden age crime I would recommend either the Lord Peter Wolsey series by Dorothy Sayers or the Inspector Allen Grant series by Josephine Tey.

@anniemouse if you are looking for a book to read I would recommed Bella's Christmas Bake Off by Sue Watson as I am reading it at the moment and thoroughly enjoying it. This is what the book is about:

Looking for a cosy whodunit for December, I've read most of Poirot and watched most of Marple though. Anyone has a recommendation for a traditional book? Modern stories don't entertain me as much. I've read a couple books from British Library crime series in the past and really enjoyed it but not sure what go do for next.

Yes thanks, it was around that time I read it too - - am I right in saying it’s a series? Anyone else read the others. Do they have to be read in order as I think this book is #3

It is a series and this is book number 3 but I haven't read any of the others and I don't think they have to be read in order as they work just fine as a standalone.

Recently finished The Christmas Guest by Peter Swanson. It was ok, it was a quick read (I got it on Kindle and didn't realise it was a Novella until it ended!) and quite cosy, but I would have preferred the mystery to be prolonged for much longer.

Any other recommends for a Christmas thriller/murder story that's also cosy with lots of twists?

What did you think of the ending? I thought the chapter in the petrol station was good. But the last couple of lines ruined it for me. I was planning on giving it 3 stars but reduced it to 2 when the stocking was mentioned. I cant believe we didnt get any explanation about why he targeted them. No explanation about why they needed this holiday so much and then that ending! .

I wanted to ask - would people recommend Audible as the best audiobook subscription option? My sister is about to have a baby and she has been using my Spotify to listen to a childbirth related audiobook. I hadn't realised until she asked that you get some free audiobook hours with the Premium Spotify membership! So I'm thinking of getting her an audiobook subscription as a present.

I use BorrowBox but the availability can get annoying. It works for me because I supplement with library books/podcasts when there's nothing available on there, and my intention of getting her an subscription is to help her access more that she wants, without needing to leave the house. Spotify seems quite expensive - you only get like 12 hours a month with Premium membership and the audiobooks seem at a cursory glance more expensive than Audible, with all it's special offers etc.

Anything else I should consider?!

I use Everand (formerly Scribd) and really like it! It‘s basically like Netflix for audiobooks and e-books - you have unlimited use of what’s available. I pay €10.99 a month, and I previously gave a friend a subscription for a year. I think you can try a 30-day free trial.

It doesn’t have everything, but it supplements BorrowBox well.

Anyone who has used the KU 99p 3 month deal, when you went to authorise the payment did it still say £28.odd ? I just went to get it but I wouldn’t pay for KU at normal price as I use my library.

Mine came up with an error and said it hadn’t gone through but when I checked my subscriptions it said I had subscribed at 99p.

I think I’m late to the party? But I’ve just watched a man called Otto and loved it. Cried my eyes out! I’ve bought the book as it’s on kindle 99p this month. How does everyone find the book compared to the film? I would of liked to read the book first but my husband was watching it & found myself watching it aswell!

I've just finished the book and not sure if I want to watch the film! I've watched the trailer, but I'm put off by the American-ness vs the original setting. I might try and see if I can find the Swedish film to watch somewhere instead.

The scratch isn’t too annoying most of the time but in some lights it does bother me. Did you trade in your old Kindle? If so did you get much for it with the scratched screen?

I didn’t, it’s sitting in a drawer.
