She can definitely tell a story and I can't wait to read some of her other books next year as I have the following ones of my bookshelf:
Secrets of the Homefront Girls
Secrets of the Lavender Girls
Secrets of the Singer Girls
Secrets of the Sewing Bee
The Wedding Girls
The Little Wartime Library
The Stepney Doorstep Society which is her non-fiction book

I love Emma too and first read it for A Level English. I think our whole classes were really enjoying it, and then the teacher slipped up and gave away the “spoiler” that Emma and Knightley end up together which didn’t go down well! 😂

I loved the last line about how she would have been perfectly happy if only she could be an ambassador's wife. So voracious.

I am back in a huge huge reading slump. Not sure if new Paula Hawkins or poor mental health or both is to blame. Probably won’t make my goal of 50 books this year which makes me v v sad. I really tried.

Oh A Clockwork Orange is on my list to read. I've also been trying to read some classics this year that have been on my TBR for years. I was browsing cheap ebook versions on Amazon the other month and was pleased to see a few of the classics are less than 300 pages and some even less than 200, so I'm slowly ticking some off. Like The Great Gatsby, The Time Machine, Mrs Dalloway etc and some of the EM Forster novels. Knowing that they aren't too long has really motivated me, and because they are classics you can get them cheap as ebooks. A lot of these I've always wanted to read but then something more modern comes along and I'd prioritise those, but now I'm managing a mix of classic and modern. I do find though that some of the classics are slower to get into, because of the writing style. Mrs Dalloway is written as a stream of consciousness but there's lots of detail and I was very slow with it :ROFLMAO:

I loved Mrs Dalloway, wasn’t sure about it at first but once I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed it. Have a few more Virginia Woolf books on my TBR. I’ve sacked off A Clockwork Orange and moved onto Emma 😂life’s too short to struggle through a book. I’ll maybe come back to it one day (or just watch the movie)

Yes thanks, it was around that time I read it too - - am I right in saying it’s a series? Anyone else read the others. Do they have to be read in order as I think this book is #3

As a side note I've also been reading a two of Jane Harper's books. She wrote The Dry several years ago. Her books are set in Australia and not in the least bit Christmassy, but they are flipping brilliant and forgot what a great writer she is Highly recommend.
