2024 READING ROUND UP

What is your favourite fiction read of this year?

We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman. This book made me weird cry during my lunch break at work.

What is your favourite non fiction read of this year?

Space - A Human Story by Tim Peake.

What is your favourite audio book of this year?

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.

What book/s surprised you good or bad? I.e did something not live up to your expectations or did any surpass any expectations you had for it?

Good.... A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. My daughter introduced me to this series and I loved it.

Bad.....How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie. I wanted to love it, I really did. But I honestly think the book could have been half the length, and I hated the ending.

If you rate books what was your average rating and/or sum up your year of reading.

My average rating on Storygraph is 4.05, I gave 15 out of 55 books 5 stars this year!

Have you pre-ordered any books for 2025 yet / which books are you most looking forward to being released?

I haven't pre-ordered anything, but I'm really looking forward to the new Gillian McAllister.

Do you have a list of books you are aiming to read next year or do you have any reading goals for the year ahead, this doesnt have to be quantity based or anything like that.

I bought 3 new books today, DallerGut Dream Department Store, Beartown and In Memoriam, so I definitely want to read those.
As far as reading goals go, I'm aiming for 52 books.

I counted up the books I own on Kindle and stuff I've added to TBR on Kindle Unlimited, Libby, and Borrowbox and the total is 719 🤣 there are some duplicates on there so maybe more realistically there are 700.
I have loads of unread physical books (including 4 that fell into my hands in the works last week 🤫) but I think I have a real problem with Kindle books. I’m a sucker for a free or 99p kindle book. I currently have 864 unread books on there and I’m already looking forward to seeing what Januarys 99p deals are. Think I need help.
Well, now I feel much better about my TBR list 😂

When I first got my kindle (years ago) I was addicted to checking the daily top free books on Amazon. I think most of the ones I deleted last week were freebies.

54 books for me out of a 50 goal. It wasn’t a great reading year, i found i lost my mojo and struggled a few times. Lots of the books were easy fluff. Hoping i get back into it this year

Happy new year everyone ! Hope you have a great one, full of health and happiness (and good books) ❤

Favs of 2024 = Mill on the Floss ; L'armée des ombres ; Notre-Dame de Paris ; Prep ; The Secret History ; Trust

A surprisingly fun one was You by Caroline Kepnes. One I didn't like was I AM PILGRIM (don't ban me for that 😭)

I achieved my goal of 2024 of reading outside of my comfort zone i.e. reading 'big' books and genres that I don't usual go for (romance mainly). The 2025 goal will be to read more non-fictions not related to work and just whatever 'sparks joy'

Happy new year everyone!

I'm starting the new year with my physical book as Lucy Score's The Worst Best Man. I hated the first 100 or so pages but I'm about halfway through and now the spice has kicked in (y) Can't stand the female main character though

I'm also listening to Elton John's autobiography and I'm loving it. It's made me laugh out loud quite a few times, loving the narrator.

Just set my Goodreads 2025 reading challenge as 153 books (so 5 more than this year) and going to spend the day curled up on the sofa reading.

Well I reached my goal which was to read more books than I did the previous year.

My fav fiction was -Confessions of a 40 something f*** up, with a special mention to the SJ Bennett books.

Happy New Year, you lovely gang.

What book is everyone starting the year with?

I've just picked up What Lies Between Us by John Marrs. I know I'm not his only fan on this thread.

I’m struggling with getting my reading mojo back. I have a huge list of Goodreads but nothing jumps out at me.

Have you tried sorting your to read list by highest rated?

This has helped me get out of a slump before.

That is a horrible place to be. When I feel like that I just go back to an old favourite and read that, even if I don't finish it, it kind of resets me.

Home you can find your mojo 🌠
