Happy New Year! I’ve still 2 to finish from last year. The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan in Paperback and The Christmas Tree Farm by Laurie Gilmore on my Kindle.

I finished on 19 books in 2024, which I'm happy with considering I didn't touch a novel until July. I set an unambitious but managable goal for 32 this year because that's the age I'm turning :m

My first book is How Does She Do It? by Paris Fury, which is a rogue choice for me as a childless woman 😂 but I find myself drawn to things about big families because it's so removed from my own life; it's interesting to me.

I'm going to try and choose 3 or 4 books to finish each month instead of being stuck with decision paralysis (common theme for me in life in general) or reading 3 or 4 books at a time and making negligble progress on all of them. So my targets for January will be finishing Iron Flame (what a slog that's turning out to be), then Jade City by Fonda Lee, and then Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez.

Happy New Year, you lovely gang.

What book is everyone starting the year with?

I've just picked up What Lies Between Us by John Marrs. I know I'm not his only fan on this thread.
I really like John Marrs, I've read 3 of his so far and enjoyed them all.

I've started with Ask for Andrea by Noelle West Ihli (for my A-Z challenge) and Crescendo by Joanna Howat (for the Tattle book club).

I’m starting the year with Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier. Read 2 of her books in 2024 and both were 5 stars. I’m also listening to Miranda Hart’s book. What Lies Between Us is on my TBR.

Happy New Year @ordinaryjelly and to everybody else on this thread ❤😘

The book I'm starting the year with is called Never Marry a Politician by Sarah Waights. One simple message I have got from this book so far is Never Marry a Politician as things don't go well.

I’ve not decided what to start with yet. I’m 50% through Such a Fun Age and so bored by it so I think I’m going to leave it in 2024. Love the idea of sorting my TBR by highest rated so thank you @HoGi for the tip! I’ll decide when I get into bed to read later tonight.

I’m 40ish percent through dust storm. But I’ve just bought a few 99p kindle books so I think I’m going to read the trial by Rob Rinder next!

(When I was typing dust, it auto corrected to diet, I reckon my phones trying to tell me something after the festives 😂)

Happy new year book friends! 🎉🥳🍾
I’ve decided this year I’m not doing a goal. I found it just put too much pressure on especially as I’m a slooooooow reader. My aim this year is just to enjoy books, take my time and read 🥳😂 I started Manacled yesterday which will probably take a year 😂 but I’m so chuffed with myself I managed to download a cover for it onto my kindle ❤ and I’m listening to ACOTAR today (re listen)
I hope everyone has had a lovely festive period, it’s been an amazing time in the Cill household as my little non verbal babe has found his voice ❤❤ here’s to good times and happy reading ❤❤

Aah, I’m loving my first choice. It’s After Dark by Jayne Cowie and is about men being given a curfew at night so women feel safer.

I think it would be a great book club choice so I’m annoyed I didn’t know I had it before we voted.

I’ll come back with my final thoughts as I’m only 20% in, but it’s a strong start. Would be so interesting to see what others views were on the curfew too.

I managed 150 last year which is a combination of audiobooks, ebooks and paper books. It’s not the most I’ve done in a year but I picked up books when I felt like it rather than when I was chasing a goal. I’ve set my target to 87 for the year which is my average for the past 25 year I’ve been on Goodreads - some years I’ve read 14 and the highest has been 183.

They've turned it into a series on Paramount+ called Curfew

Happy New Year! This is definitely my favourite thread to read 🥳

My first read of this year is my favourite book, Winter Solstice by Rosamund Pilcher. I just love her writing and it’s the perfect cosy book for this time of year. It’s a tome (698 pages!) but every moment is enjoyable. It’s the only Rosamund Pilcher I’ve read but I want to read September and The Shellseekers by her this year.

I finished The Answer is No (my first Backman & one of the book club picks) this morning & now reading Hagstone. Off to a good start by the looks of things!

I fully support this decision. I finished it & wish I didn't bother. I'm still annoyed about it almost a full year later.

The Husbands by Holly Gramazio. Have just started it, but am not sure if I’m going to like it. I know nothing about it. Just downloaded it on my kindle as it was one of the first books that showed up when I searched on Libby.

I loved this. I read it in amongst some much heavier books. I’ve also recommended to others who also enjoyed it. Stick with it. How far in are you?

My first read of the year is The Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. I’ve loved all her newer books, so trying to work through her back catalogue.
