First book of the year finished... Manacled by SenLinYu

Enjoyable fanfiction that was easy and quick to read in spite of the grammatical errors.

I read Matrix by Lauren Groff this week. I think I liked it but I felt the pacing was a bit off. I liked that it didn't get too bogged down in minutiae and showing off how much research the author had done but at the same time I felt like some of the time skips were too long and some of the characters' actions didn't fit with my understanding of them and so could have done with seeing more of their perspective.

I’m 40ish percent through dust storm. But I’ve just bought a few 99p kindle books so I think I’m going to read the trial by Rob Rinder next!

(When I was typing dust, it auto corrected to diet, I reckon my phones trying to tell me something after the festives )

I enjoyed The Trial and also The Suspect. The main character a junior barrister is a very likeable character. I've noticed there's another book The Protest so I'd like to read that when I get the chance.

I think The Protest comes out in a few months, I look forward to reading it. I agree with you the main character is likeable.

I’m reading a spoonful of murder by JM Hall and god I’m so bored and don’t care at all. But I bought the book and it’s been on my tbr shelf for ages so it feels like a waste of money
I’m definitely going to stop because I really dislike it but I feel guilty

Yes, I hate DNF’ing and rarely do it even though I keep telling myself I need to get better at it - life is too short and there are too many books, etc.

I too feel like it’s a waste of money

If I really hate after the first 25% I will DNF. But if it's a book that just Boris me silly I will just skim read very fast to the end. That way I don't feel guilty!

I’m just struggling to get into it and the character perspectives are written so similarly I have no idea who’s pov it is half the time you may enjoy it more than me though!

You're not going to believe me...but yes, I struggle to DNF books but I made one exception last year... And it was THIS book! It went straight to the charity shop. I only got about 5 chapters in, but it was so boring! I love mystery books but this just didn't grab me at all and there were other books on my TBR to read instead.

I fully support this decision. I finished it & wish I didn't bother. I'm still annoyed about it almost a full year later.

I hate DNFing but snap on Such a Fun Age and this has made me feel better!

i’m too scared to continue with the trilogy because i loved beartown but i also mainly absolutely adore benji and i know in my heart that he’s not going to have a happy ending and no thank you

Oh I know, the foreshadowing hit me in the heart every single damn time, he was absolutely my favourite character.

same every character in those books is so beautifully done but he was my absolute favourite too. i know backman pretty much tells you straight away what’s going to happen but i’m still in denial!

I too feel like it’s a waste of money

think of itlike this.. if you DNF you have "wasted money" . if you carry on reading a book you don't like then not only have you still wasted the money, you have wasted the time as well.

I used to struggle with this too! But last year, I made a resolution to stop forcing myself to finish books I’m not enjoying—life’s too short, and my TBR is way too long. If I feel like revisiting a book later, I can always pick it back up (which I’ve done a few times). That said, not once has a book I DNF’d early on turned out to be amazing, so I’ve found that dropping it early is usually a good indicator that it just wasn’t for me.
