[Boogs]

My first read of the year was Return to Midnight by Emma Dues. It wasn’t a particularly bad book, a bit cheesy and predictable in places but it was clearly loosely based on a real life crime that only happened a couple of years ago and hasn’t even gone to trial yet. She even kept one of the original victims names. That doesn’t sit morally right with me and feels like she is profiting from others pain.

I had a lovely lazy day yesterday and stayed in bed for most of it. I read The Women by Kristin Hannah which was a great book, but I think her book The Nightingale was slightly better.
Having started on such a good book, I’m wondering what I should read now! I have a copy of Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow kicking around so I’ll probably get on with that.

I fully support this decision. I finished it & wish I didn't bother. I'm still annoyed about it almost a full year later.

I’m so pleased to hear that someone else didn’t like it!! I hear nothing but rave reviews and I just don’t get it. It’s so dull!

I left off Papillon half way through last year but I've managed to get back into it so I think finishing that will be my first book of the year.

My first read is Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton. It was a gift, don't think I would have purchased it myself but I'm really enjoying it so far.

First books of 2025 are the audiobook Sherlock Holmes Complete Collection (extra cozy for winter-christmas imo, perfect to listen while doing a puzzle with tea and chocolates) and My Year of Rest and Relaxation (so far, it's brilliant).

I’ve still got 3 books I started in 2024 on the go 🫣 wish I was starting something new in a way but at the same time nice to have a head start on my 2025 challenge lol I think my first finish of the year will be Little Women. My first start will likely be something from my Waterstones sale order.. possibly Safekeep.

My only plan for 2025 and books is to try and read every day. I might write up a short TBR of books I'd like to read in 2025 too. But I have lots of goal setting plans for other areas of my life so think I will keep reading nice and relaxed this year.

I think it's worth a read. I did enjoy it, but I noticed by the end I was skimming paragraphs rather than reading. I would definitely read more of her books.

Happy new year all! I finished my 45 book challenge on Goodreads in the nick of time (about the 30th December I think!). The last book I read was Mania by Lionel Shriver. It was ok - I really love We Need to Talk About Kevin and this did not compare. It was quite repetitive?

I started Young Mungo but I was trying to read in the car during a stressful journey and it just didn’t jump out at me. It’s really long! I could really do with not getting stuck in a reading slump again - I really got back into reading over 2024 but several slumps really hit me hard over the year and I am anxious not to let that happen again this year. Being back in the headspace to enjoy books again feels so fragile still, and I don’t want to scare it away!

@inksmear Young Mungo is an excellent book, definitely try again when you're in the right headspace and you can give it attention, probably best being at home all wrapped up as it's a tough read.

I’m starting 2025 trying to finish off the books I hadn’t finished in 2024

I’m reading Red Line (DCI Kett) by Alex Smith which is very enjoyable.

I’m trying to kickstart my “listen to more audiobooks” by going back to What a Way to Go by Bella Mackie. I don’t hugely gel with fiction on audio but I’d started this on audio when it was released last year so I wanted to finish it the same way. Tbh I don’t know how much I’m loving it, it’s pretty average so far (approx 40% in).
