Speaking of the Pumpkin spice cafe books, I’ve not read them but a friend who I’m buying for Christmas loves them. She’s read all the books so far. Id like to get her a book for Xmas as part of her gift, could someone recommend something similar ? I’ve seen Jenny Colgan getting discussed above. But also was considering the Elsie Silver (?) books - like Wild Love is it? Something in a series might be a good shout. I think she likes the cheesy romance but also a bit of smut 😂

I just finished Fearless and it’s definitely smutty romance. I was a bit turned off at first by the long haired cowboy (I mean he’s no Theo 🥰) but I think that was because I made the mistake of listening to the audiobook and the voice made me squirm.

Oh thank you. So is that an Elsie Silver and is it in this Wild Love series ? If so is that #1? If it’s by Elsie silver I can look it up on GR and then see which book to get first. I think the smut is key haha

I find the narrator's voice and delivery is make-or-break for me. As a result, I've found a few who I really like and I've ended up listening to books I would never have picked because I like the voice :ROFLMAO: It's helped me meet my book target for the year. I'd say about 40% of my books this year have been audio. I've also learned that I can manage about 1hr30 before I need to take a break, even if I'm loving the book. I think with Audiobooks, you have to find the quirks that make it work for you, like how long to listen for, playback speed, voice, genre. Once you find your way, it can really be a gamechanger.
Ooh I listened to Josie Silvers one night on the island and hated the male narrator so much it put me off. The book was gorgeous though

It is an Elsie Silver but it’s not from the Wild Love series, it’s a different one. I’m reading them on kindle unlimited

My brain works so weird in thinking that having 5 books on the go at once means I’ll get through my Goodreads goal quicker.

I’m really enjoying this one though, hoping to finish tonight/tomorrow. And I just discovered that I have the next one somewhere in my trolley. Yay!

Regarding audio books, like others I started with non fiction. I slowly moved over to fiction but Id still opt for non fiction if a good book crosses my path.

Regarding decently written romance books with open door scenes.

Elsie Silver - Chestnut Spring Series
Liz Tomford - Windy City Series.
Becka Mack - Playing for Keeps series

These series have proper adult characters, not high school or college aged romance.

no smut in Jenny but i believe there is in Elsie Silver,, another reason I don't pick her books up.

I’ve started Think Again. I want to love it. I’m not loving it. 😩
this is exactly how i felt about it 🥲 if anything it filled me with rage. i was genuinely upset by how much i didn’t like it because i love jacqueline wilson but she really needed a strong editor to tell her certain things just didn’t work (or ring true for a 40 year old character in 2024).

can’t wait to epically fail again this year!!! (still not over the lion clue from last time) 🤣
I had that in my head this morning too 💀 I'm sure we'll all come up with some great new book titles if nothing else...

'Think Again' was a massive letdown IMO I don't want to spoil anything but massive disappointment - I think Jacqueline Wilson has an issue with teachers haha

I'm on 15/20 and the rest are killing me. I keep trying the same guesses 😬
I can only get one so far! However I also can't get anything on the crossword so I fear I am dumb today.

Edit: I am being dumb. I thought they were all books from this year.

I’m halfway through and still not loving it and I’m really sad not to be enjoying it. It doesn’t feel like an adult book, not that it should be full of swearing and sex scenes, but it reads like a YA book. There isn’t much depth to the characters and not much character development either. I’m glad I borrowed the book from the library and didn’t buy it. 😔 Maybe it will improve in the second half.
