I’m halfway through The Third Gilmore Girl and it’s reminded me how much I love a good memoir. I think my goal for next year is to read more so with that in mind which ones do you all recommend? I have Matthew Perrys and Tom Felton’s on my TBR already (big fan of both Friends and Harry Potter)

ETA a quick google has informed me a memoir is in fact different to an autobiography so to avoid confusion I would take recommendations for both

I adore memoirs and non fiction and have read an obscene amount. I don't even have to be a fan of the person to enjoy them if theyre written well or have something to say. In fact I have found as I have said here before ppl with fascinating lives whose books have been disappointing and surface level - Chrissie Hynde Debbie Harry. I'll have a think.. what sort of folks are you interested in? Do they have to be famous or just people with interesting lives/stories etc?

I did read an advance copy of The Third Gilmore Girl and found it a little disappointing, I'd have liked more depth and could have read a whole book on her early career/ Broadway if more fully written.

One memoir I do recommend absolutely is Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner. it's a must. If you can read about sa then Know My Name by Chanel Miller also.

I've unleashed myself on Bo Jo's autobiography and so far I'm enjoying it. Ego seems to be the big problem in politics, without that we'd all get on a lot better in running the country. I was also fascinated to read about the Vulcan nerve pinch which I had to Google.

I like Boris but not read his memoir yet. I think it's the way he speaks puts me off in case the memoir is written in that flowery way he speaks!

I have read a few and I love them. The Christmas Bookshop is a great read. I just bought Close Knit last week as next week I’m going to a talk she’s having in our library. I’m hoping she’ll sign my book

I've not read her for years and nearly got lynched recently when I said to someone that I don't remember liking her books. Don't think I'm their favourite person any more
Must remember to engage brain in future when asked potentially incendiary questions.

I adore Jenny Colgan.. one of my go to feelgood authors. I would say they are set in specific locations but more wholesome and with likeable realistic characters. What put me off the Pumpkin Spice etc was the mentions of them being spicy. I don't want to read that kinda stuff.I highly Recommend Jenny's books though

Some of them say book 1 of 2 etc but I think the Christmas ones will be fine

I tried to place a hold online from my library on a Christmas one, but it refused and came up all red. Maybe the library is telling me to do one after my comment.

No they are grouped in series.. based on the Island or Bookshop etc.. but mostly in the sense of setting and common characters. From my experience and opinion they can b read and enjoyed as standalones. There is nothing that really matters that you need to know. There may be the occasional reference to something that happened in the previous island book for example but nothing that is of earth shattering consequence, It's more of regular readers spending time with characters and settings they know and love.
