Only 3 again this month. How I read 9 in April I'll never know 😂 Still on track to beat my target of 50 books this year though. Think I'm on 43.

I don't think this kind of book is good for audio as it's so involved. It's a bit like those films that sweep you away in the cinema, and then you suddenly return to the present day when your friend/partner is nudging you to answer them, or move as the film has finished.
As her son hinted in the foreword the author previously worked as an actor and model, and parts of the book were based on personal experience.
As someone who has lived a far fetched life sometimes, that no one would believe, this book did kind of speak to me.
It made me look with new eyes at people in the press and remember that sometimes you can't escape evil people.
It was the book the author was most proud of. I'm just left feeling sad that you dismissed it so lightly. 😔😟
i think, as another poster said eloquently above, different people love different things and while it might make you sad that someone didn’t love a book that you loved (i feel this way whenever anyone tells me a little life is trash 🤣) the person shouldn’t feel bad about it really. they’re entitled to feel how they did about it, as are you 💙

i would have an absolute army of where the crawdads sing fans outside my door at all times otherwise 😬

My September reads. Only finished C&F today
And despite finding it hard to get into I ended up really enjoying it. Would give it 4.5. I actually really liked the characters of Cleo, Frank, Eleanor and Zoe. I found the ending really satisfying.

This week I read Strange Sally Diamond, which I loved although like lots of people I wasn’t happy how it ended.
I also saw the Prima Facie play at the cinema having loved the audiobook. Jodie Comer is extraordinary and made me cry more than once.

So obviously rhe pages are black and white. But it is soooo nice having colour covers! I honestly feel like I might make a dent in my TBR as I can see what attracted me to books in the first place. Often I see the covers in black and white and I'm like meh.
@HoGi Are you being paid by Amazon here? It will make us make a dent in our TBR. We will all be rushing off to buy them 🙈😂

I am now over my huff with Sally Rooney calling 36 middle aged and have processed my thoughts about Intermezzo. It was frustrating. It was beautifully written but I felt like the ending felt rushed (even though you could hardly accuse the book of being ‘fast-paced’, let’s be honest). I think her writing just isn’t for me. I know she writes about complicated and sad people doing things that make their lives even more complicated and sad but I am a very practical person and I just want to shake them. I felt the same with Normal People too.

I am probably never going to get on with her because my attitude to life is best summed up by that Friends episode where Joey tells Ross ‘They’re just feelings. They’ll go away’. I am probably not who Sally Rooney has in mind as her readership!

OCTOBER ROUNDUP

A mixed bag this month. I read a lot of horror for spooky season and results varied. I'd also been reading too many cosy murder mysteries so made a conscious choice to try and read a few more 'literary' things.

BOOKS READ: 18

FAVOURITE BOOK OF THE MONTH: Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect, which is a cosy murder mystery, oops. Second place goes to The Last Murder At The End Of The World, which is a...sci-fi murder mystery.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT: Mister Magic. I don't know if anyone here was ever a creepypasta or nosleep reader, but this basically sounded like a premise from one of those. However, it went nowhere and was really boring and not scary at all. Hide, by the same author, was really good.

SPOOKIEST SPOOK: From Below by Darcy Coates. Combine my severe thalassophobia with psychological haunting, unsolved mysteries and a Titanic-esque ship? GIMME!

So annoyed with myself, I had The Will of the Many from the library and just never found myself in the mood to read and now it has to go back as I can’t renew! I’ll try again some time 😭
In other news, I picked up this mainly for the gorgeous cover! I haven’t read any Eliza Clark yet so I’m intrigued

My October round up. Been on a bit of a DCI Kett binge this month!! I really hope they make that series into a TV show - it's so good.

Currently reading Rivals by Jilly Cooper but it is such a beast of a book theres no way I will finish it today. I want to watch the TV show so thought I would read Riders first and having finished it- I don't think I have ever loathed a character as much as I loathe RCB. He really is a POS but I am invested and will probably make my way through the rest of the series at some point (i.e if they're on a kindle deal or if I can pick them up in the charity shop lol).

I have set myself the rule of not buying any more books (physical or kindle) for the rest of the year (apart from a couple of nice Christmas themed ones for December 😂) Chances of me sticking to it are slim to none…

just because i finished my final october book today (faebound. i sadly do not recommend it. it took me what felt like 84 years to read), here are my october reads!

think again - jacqueline wilson ⭐⭐
in memoriam - alice winn ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
protecting what’s mine - lucy score 😴
good material - dolly alderton ⭐⭐⭐⭐
hell bent - leigh bardugo ⭐⭐⭐⭐
my vampire plus-one - jenna levine ⭐⭐⭐
faebound - saara el-arifi ⭐⭐

everything i read this month paled in comparison to in memoriam though, which i am still thinking about.
I can’t believe it’s monthly wrap up time already.. and also that you read In Memoriam this month, feels like ages ago!
Sounds like I don’t need to be in any rush to rescue Faebound from my TBR.
---
I’ve had a crazy work month but somehow finished 6 books - although thinking about it 2 I read a lot of in Sept 🤔 I'm not entirely sure on my ratings tbh but Under Your Spell was my fav.
---
Almost forgot the big news of the month…
I’ve read 1 more book that I’ve bought this month 😇

Septembers reads 🥰 the Freida McFadden was just silly nonsense 😂 so it’s only a 3 ⭐ but the rest were 5 ⭐
I’m 65% through A Thousand Boy Kisses and I am BORED! I’m determined to finish it but I am never giving in to the “TikTok” sensation hype again 😴😴😴

Oh God!!!😲😬😳😏
I've surpassed my record. I've now got 14 books in transit to my new library! They're going to think I'm a nutter! Don't know if I even dare show my face!! 😬
And yet I've been waiting for another book for over a year..... 🙄
It's like juggling babies 😏
