My September wrap up.

For someone who wasn't a fan of audio books, this month, 89% of my books were that format.

I powered through Augusta Hope today. Started off unsure about it but really enjoyed it in the end

In October I plan on reading at least 1 physical book as I've not read one since 2019 🫣 and to read more Kindle books as majority this month were from Borrowbox

I'm early 30s but mentally and physically feel like I'm in my 20s (Botox helps too haha) I also don't have kids which I think makes me feel like less of an adult basically I'm the main child in my life 🤣

I've started house in the cerulean sea and enjoying it so far 😊

As well as finishing Les Mis, my other September reads were -

The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley. Classic Lucinda Riley family saga. Nice easy read after a finishing a couple of heavier books.

Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. I know there’s been lots of people who’ve loved this one but I was a bit disappointed. It was ok but nothing that really gripped me. It picked up towards the end but overall I just didn’t care enough about the main characters.

Shakespeare, The Man Who Pays The Rent by Judi Dench. This was really lovely. Not a straight up memoir but JD looking back at the Shakespeare roles she’s played over the years and a bit of her critique on the characters and plays. Really interesting to get her perspective on plays I knew quite well and to learn more about knee I’ve never read/seen.

The Wrong Sister by Claire Douglas. Enjoyed it but guessed the twist before the end! Really fast paced and engaging though.

Currently about 70% through The Rachel Incident by Caroline O’Donoghue. Enjoying this one too but a bit confused as to why the blurb on Amazon describes it as “hilarious”? Humorous maybe but nothing in the story so far has struck me as comedy? 🤷‍♀️

Just three again this month. I really need to learn to not finish a book if I'm not enjoying it! If You Could See Me Now took me over 2 weeks as I just couldn't get into it.
Loved Behind Closed Doors, read that in a couple of days and The Guest was good too.

Need to read 10 more books to hit my target of 50.

Haha I better stay quiet then and not annoy two people in one day 🤣

But yeah while it'd be boring if we all liked the same things, I also get disappointed, if people don't like my favourites 😅
I like to read the 1 star reviews of books I loved 😂 not sure if I’m testing my love for them or if genuinely curious 🤷🏻‍♀️

I only finished 4 books in September but I’m nearly finished 3 so l’ll have a strong start for October.
Under Your Spell was 5🌟. The others are only 3🌟

Eight for me this month which I THINK is my best ever, although it’s felt like the longest month reading wise, I feel like I read The Mystery Guest years ago 😅

Weyward has to be my favourite of the month but I enjoyed them all, The Wrong Sister was great, The Silent Patient, The Hike and Wonderland were all solid thrillers. I can’t decide if I like the Molly the maid series or not, the writing feels a little clunky to me.

The accidental medium books were also quite fun, I preferred the second and I believe there’s two more, fun for this time of year although the blurb made them sound more crime/murder mystery than they actually are

October flew by, I thought I read more to be honest :ROFLMAO:

I loved them all really but Slow Dance was a stand out this month! I have The Will of the Many sat on my desk from the library so that'll probably be my first for November!

Im reading this atm, its my last “cute” book before I head back to the books I feel more comfortable with (murder, crime, chaos) and honestly it’s the fact that it’s such a Gilmore Girls rip off that’s annoying me. And that it’s marketed as such. Which begs the question why am I reading it? (I don’t know, and I’m terrible at DNF’ing)
Me, who thought The Pumpkin Spice Cafe was pure fluffy cute, cappuccinos and cakes, gazing lovingly at each other type stuff, reaching the smutty sections:

Hello 👋 I’ve been in a bit of a rut recently so haven’t been keeping up on here, I’m just about to catch up on recent posts (and no doubt spend a small fortune in the process 😅…)

I think I got myself in a rut by trying to read books outside of my preferred genres. For example I’ve read a few of the TikTok famous romance type novels. I love that everyone has different preferred book types but honestly I’ve accepted romance and cutesy stuff just is not for me. I find myself wishing there would be a murder to liven things up 😭

And so I’m reverting back to type and sticking to murdery/detectivey/crimey books for a while to get myself back into reading more regularly 🥰

I read a lot just before sleeping mainly and in recent months I’ve found myself thinking nah I’ll just go to bed, which isn’t like me

but I have to finish off my last cutesy one because I absolutely hate DNF’ing 😂
I’m the same, every now and then I’ll read something outside of what I prefer (also nursery/thriller type stuff) and can cope with the odd one. But if I read too many back to back I feel like I lose the will to live and certainly the desire to read.

I’m definitely not a cutesy/romance kind of reader either. I see some book covers and just know it’s not for me (I know, never judge a book… etc etc) but you form these opinions based on past experiences.

I find that I’m waiting for a twist or a sudden event to grab me in every book and I totally forget that not every book has them. It always spoils my enjoyment because I need that dopamine hit of the next big thing constantly when I read, so books (generally romance style) that just plod along totally bore me.

I refuse to believe it. In my head I could quite easily be in my early 20s but yet my body feels like it’s in its 90s. I will never be middle aged until I’m around 50, surely that’s middle aged?!
Im saying nothing haha. The years fly by. I lost someone last year who died prematurely so Im just trying to do as many things I enjoy as often as I can.

Growing old is a privilege not afforded to all. 😭

Only 6 for me in September and continuing my splatterpunk phase
October I am going to swap back to my thrillers I think, as much as I 'enjoy' the splatterpunk books I find it difficult to mark them high due to internal conflict 😂
It did take me to 53 books for the year and I only got back into reading in June so overall not doing too bad

These are my October books. Currently reading City of Girls but no chance of finishing it before tomorrow night. I seem to have had quite a themed month 😂
