Sometimes it can be just how you feel at the time. I didn’t enjoy Beach Read when I read it but I think that was because I was more in the mood for a thriller at the time.I've just finished Funny Story and I didn't love itI feel like this is a 'me' problem as so many other EmHen fans liked it!

I was loving the build up but didn’t love the ending. Then again, I don’t know what I was expecting as it was pretty formulaic! But overall I did really like it, it was an easy read which I really needed at the minute.I've just finished Funny Story and I didn't love it
I read most of it on a flight over the summer. So good!

Just started Liars. It was recommended by someone on this thread. Love how it is written so far.
I just didn't connect with the characters as much as I have in other ones of hers although the ending did make me have a little cry so something must have clicked. I didn't love her last book (I think it was Happy Place?) as much as her previous ones (which I adored) so maybe she's just not the author for me with her latest offerings. Won't stop me giving her next one a go though...
I found We Solve Murders hard to get into as well, Richard loves to write about a lot of people. I am now almost on chapter 70 and it picked up for sure. But I think it will be the same for me as the Thursday Murder Club where I appreciate the book a lot more a second time.
Finished The Women last night by Kristen Hannah. 5/5. Absolutely loved it.
I did feel some of the dialogue was overly cheesy in places (the gung ho 'Seahawks' for instance) but I imagine this is probably quite historically accurate. I read the author's note at the end and all the acknowledgments and sounds like she did a tit ton of research. I thought she really did a good job of portraying a believable story (I know it was based on real life experiences), weaving in the social commentary throughout but not in a forced way, and the response to returning veterans and how women were not just excluded from all that but many tried to completely deny there were even any women present. Loved all the music references throughout also. Anyway I found the whole thing so absorbing and powerful.
I read this recently and gave it 1*.. thought it was awful and terribly written.
I feel like 40 percent is a good way in and nothing has really happened!

just finished the rachel incident by caroline o’donoghue (which i really liked) and i am INTRIGUED as to whether it’s a true story or not. i’ve googled so many interviews with her but she’s very cagey

I recognised so many of the establishments and streets that she named, plus it did feel almost like a memoir. To he honest I really really didnt like Rachel, she was abhorrent, had zero morals, was selfish/self serving and very much a filthy sloth. Despite all this, the book was brilliant and I'm very glad I read it.

i thought it came across as a memoir too! also her acknowledgments seem to clearly make out like “james” is a real person, and the whole description of her move to london just seemed so legit and like someone recapping real life events. every interview i read of her was just her avoiding commenting though@LaBlonde I couldn't quote directly since it's an older thread but, your thoughts mirror mine.

i didn’t find anyone in it very likeable at all but the slow build as you realised what the “incident” WAS was so well-done. fully agree on rachel herself though, that house sounded like an absolute pit too

I finished Hello Beautiful last night, aww what a book. I had been meaning to pick it up for a couple of weeks but life got in the way, but I was home alone this weekend and it was just the book I needed. Really lovely writing, descriptive, but plenty of plot happened too. I enjoyed how it was wrapped up too, it didn't feel rushed and I don't feel like anything was left unanswered for me. 
Nothing massive happens further on either. I was so disappointed in that book. I only kept reading as I felt I had to given I’d read the first one and the prequel novella so I needed to round off the story.

Same I read the 3rd book in the Little Village School series and since then I just haven't felt in the mood to read anything and when I have started to read something I just haven't been able to get into it. I have just started the Golden Girls Getaway by Judy Leigh so I'm hoping that this book brings me out of my slump.I've hit a reading slump again
